I plan to use the 1/2" 90 liquid tight fittings on felexible conduit running Romex to a Ring flood light camera from a junction box. As the install will be on an exposed carport that only has a roof and rafters, a watertight application is needed from my junction box to the camera system of which I need two water tight 90s to make it work. The 90s seem well built and I noted no problem with them.

This is a well-built, high quality fitting that is convenient for connecting outdoor fixtures such as air conditioners, pumps and lights. It is important to note that this is the one-piece variety so it screws into the liquid tight flexible conduit first and then is inserted into the box or fixture you are connecting. the connection is strong and tight but the only point of separation is at the threaded nut in the fixture.

Carlon Liquidtight 90-degree fittings make connectors to ¾” liquid tight flex tubing. The fittings are easy to install on the nonmetallic flexible PVC conduit. Simply slide the conduit over the end of the barb type end and up snug to the foam seal ring. The other end of the fitting is a simple foam ring and then a plastic locknut. When the pipe is cold if you put a little water or window cleaner on the fitting they will slip on very easily. The only issue I have is in hot weather when the PVC conduit is hot from siting in the sun and the PVC conduit seems to be easier to pull apart since they do not have the locking collar on the conduit end. They do meet the electrical codes for watertight connections.

It is important and usually a time-saver to use the proper fittings with the specific type of raceway that you are using. Just because a part physically fits doesn’t mean that it is APPROVED (UL listed, manufacturer designed, or code approved) for that use. Using the wrong fitting may get you in trouble with either the electrical inspector, or at some time in the future when you want to sell your house or property. Besides, using the proper parts shows that you know what you are doing and have respect for the reliability and safety of your electrical system. These elbows are specifically designed and approved for use with liquid-tight non-metalic tubing. When you make a nice clean cut to the tubing, these will seal tight with the attached gasket and hold firm, and of course they are designed for connection into the knock-out of your electrical box. They install in a couple seconds and there is no need for glue or a wait time, making these the proper and cheaper method in the long run. Other fittings are also available and may be needed for other parts of the run, but I find that the use of elbows next to the box eliminates strain on the tubing, and usually eliminates a tight bend. Almost always a good choice.

EXCELLENT FITTINGS FOR WET/DAMP LOCATIONS. BACKGROUND: I try to use non-metallic, weather-resistant conduit and fitting for all my outside wiring, especially for my pool and well pump. The Liquidtight 90 degree fittings work well in my applications. FIT AND FINISH: A simple radius bend, PVC fitting with a foam conduit gasket and an O’ring entry seal. OPERATION: Simple to use: Install the fitting and flexible conduit, pull wire, connect and run. If I do a retrofit (see photos) I can pull the wire through the locknut, push the wire through the opening and fitting, then install the fitting and conduit. Either way you get a weatherproof installation. SUMMARY: Great for outdoor or damp installations. PROS: Weather resistant Corrosion resistant.
