Questions & Answers

Does the front metal plate create a bulge in the drywall? Should I notch the stud the thickness of the metal plate so it is flush?
ByMar 2, 2025
1 Answer |
Answer This Question

No, the front metal plate is designed to be flush with the drywall, and it shouldn't create a bulge. The design of the box and bracket is specifically for a flush mount, meaning the box and its metal plate are intended to sit level with the wall surface.

Love these boxes. Adjustable for 1/2, 5/8, or double 5/8 sheetrock. Just put ‘em in and adjust to wall later. Makes it so much easier to have flat outlets when finished.

These are in my opinion a great trade of cost for ease of installation. You do not need to worry about mounting your box at the proper depth as it both mounts to the face of the stud and it is depth adjustable after the fact to easily make it flush with up to a couple layers of 5/8" drywall. These are also nice for those odd occasions when you do not know exactly how thick your wall is going to be.

                      Wobbly
I just installed one of these in kitchen and I can see before I have even closed up that it is WOBBLY and is not going to work over time. I'm Googling for an alternative right now. I can't believe all the 5 Stars these boxes are getting. Do not recommend. Not much use if your box lines up neatly with drywall if it also wiggles every time you insert or pull out a plug!

Having these boxes installed, allowed us to make changes to our back splash to accommodate any thickness we ended up with. Tile on one wall. 3cm countertop on other walls. More expensive than the standard box but well worth it.

Great adjustable box. I like this design. The adjusting screw is on the inside of the box. Easy to get to and adjust after the drywall/tile is installed.
