The Zip Box Blue 1-Gang 18 cu. in. Non-Metallic Ceiling Box is designed for use with non-metallic sheathed cable in accordance with article 314 of the NEC. Great for residential and light commercial applications, the box is made with Polycarbonate, is listed for use with masonry walls and can be used with 90°C conductors. It meets NEMA OS-2 and is fire rated and UL listed for safety.
  • Use with fixtures up to 50 lbs.
  • Not intended for use with ceiling fan - not fan rated
  • Thermoplastic construction resists rust and won't conduct electricity
  • Built-in cable clamps hold wires firmly in place
  • Captive nails included

A:  I personally would not use this type of electrical box for a ceiling fan. This box is not designed to hold the weight of a ceiling fan.  There are electrical boxes available to support the weight of ceiling fans.

          I’ve been using these boxes to improve the lighting in a basement studio. They nail into the joists easily and can be pulled away and repositioned if the nails are not deeply seated. It’s very difficult to retract the wire if it’s inserted too far into the box so I gave it 4 stars. There may be an easy way to do that. I’ll keep trying.
