Questions & Answers

does each toggel switch have to be wired seperately or they plug in like a breaker box

Asked by: mayor
If you have 2 or 3 power sources coming into the box then separately. Otherwise here is how to wire 2 or 3 switches on one power source. These instructions are for 3 switches, 2 pig tails for 2 switches. Connect all white wires together, wire nut all grounds together with one extra copper "Pig tail". Attach 3 10" green 14 ga. solid wires to the ground "pig tail" You could use bare wire, this will eliminate any potential arching with other wires. Label the black wires. If you have one Power source wire coming into the box, label it too and wire nut 3 10" black 14 ga. wires to the black power wire as you did for the ground wire. Tuck all the wires in the back of the box except for the 3 green grounds, 3 labeled black, and the 3 pig tailed black power wires. Connect a ground, the labeled black wire (Light, fan, vanity etc.), and a "pig tailed" power wire to each switch (it doesn't matter what power wire goes to the switch. Just don't put two power wires to one switch, NOT GOOD. That will do it.

How sturdy and are the ears hidden?

My 3-gang will be used for two switches and one GFCI outlet. I've found these outlets to be pretty snug with push/pull force required to plug or unplug. Will this gang box hold up to such push/pull action? Also, are the ears hidden by the wall plate? thanks
Asked by: wK
Enough, but not very sturdy. The ears are hidden and should work

3-Gang 55 cu. in. Old Work Box is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 8.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It just works I needed to expand my switch box so this fits the bill exactly. The tabs to hold and grip the drywall seem pretty sturdy and I dont forsee a problem considering I used it for switches which shouldnt see a lot of force applied to it. My only nitpick is its a raised profile off the drywall by about a millimeter so your cover might not sit flush unless you countersink the box a bit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tough and well-desugned I love these outlet boxes. They're tough as nails, lightweight, and very solid once secured in the wall. The flip-out screw clamps are ingenious, as they stay put, but can also be loosened to change the box if you need to.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to install, tight hold, and lots of space.... We were using this three gang box to add an additional switch into our kitchen for our pendant lights. After removing the old plastic box, we cut the dry wall to fit. This three gang was so easy to install, turning the screws will open the flaps and they lock into place and tighten down as expected. Since we were jumping off of an existing switch, we needed more space than was available in other replacement boxes. This is a great product and if you need a three gang box, I highly recommend this one!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for replacement Needed to replace a three gang switch box that had cracked and come loose in the wall. This box does not have to be fastened to a stud, it attaches to the dry wall from the back with adjustable tabs from the front. Save much time

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Did the job for an additional installation Used this to extend an outlet and create a panel of cable outlets when hanging an hdtv. Did the job just fine and gave a wireless look to the wall as I hid it behind the tv.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Labeled wrong Title says 35 Cu. In. but description says 55 Cu. In. I drove across town for this box, and it was the wrong depth for the walls in my home. Fix the title Home Depot and save us this hassle.
