Once assembled, the desk is sturdy in raised or lowered position. Assembly was kind of a pain for something with so few parts.

Looks great but it's not perfect
My wife chose this because she liked the appearance, and wanted something higher than a traditional desk. Now that it's in our home, she loves how it looks, but there are few problems. The box was somewhat beat up when I picked it up at the store - not surprising, since it's pretty heavy. Nothing appeared damaged inside, but the small package for hardware was open and some parts were loose. All parts were there. Instructions were basic but reasonably easy to follow. Not all the parts provided were exactly as shown in the instructions. The number of holes in a brace, or the number of nuts/bolts needed, didn't necessarily match with the illustrations - but I was able to complete assembly with everything that had been provided. Fitting the gears together properly took a little bit of jostling; again, not a big problem, but could have been easier. Most of the metal parts had some residual grease-like substance on them. It wiped off easily, but that wasn't something I had expected to deal with. The base of the legs is just bare metal - depending what your flooring is, you may want to plan on a rug or something else underneath. I would have liked some felt or something included on the base of the legs. Raising the desktop with the crank is difficult. It goes, but takes more effort than I think it should. Lowering the desktop is easy. It does stay at the chose height and doesn't accidentally sink down. In the picture it looks like it might be top-heavy but it really isn't; the legs and feet are substantial enough to balance that out. My wife loves the appearance of this desk. She is not planning to adjust the height often, she will just keep it at her preferred height. I think the instructions, assembly process, and mechanics have room for improvement.
