Q:Can it be easily removed?
by|Sep 7, 2019
1 Answer
Answer This Question
A: We would not recommend the Nantucket for installation in a rental. The adhesive you use must be strong enough to support the tiles. As such, removing the adhesive would result in some damage to the substrate that would need to be repaired (minor scraping, patching, and painting)

Answer This Question
A: Thanks for your interest in Ceilume. We were somewhat surprised by the enthusiastic response to our promotion for the Nantucket tile. We'd like to remove some of the dozens of reviews but are unable to do so. The Nantucket can only be installed using adhesive; the overlapping pattern of the Lap Joint tiles requires adhesive to secure all 4 sides of the tile. We're surprised to hear of your negative thoughts toward adhesives. When properly installed, modern adhesives provide a stronger bond than nails or staples because the adhesive can be applied to a much larger surface area. Adhesive also allows for a seamless installation that will resist corrosion, something that nails and staples can not do. Finally, the weight of these tiles is less than 1 pound each meaning the adhesive will never be truly stressed to the point of failure. All things considered, adhesive has proven to be a winning installation method for Ceilume Nantucket tiles. We hope you'll give them a try in your home.

Received quickly and packaged well. These panels are flexible but sturdy, light weight and easy to cut to size. Capable of being used in multiple areas, i.e. backsplash, cabinets, accent trim on walls. Allows you to add texture to the ceiling or wall easily. It has a matte finish. You can overlap the edges to make a smooth transition to the next piece. It has an old-fashioned tin ceiling appeal. They are lovely.

I am very impressed by the Nantucket Faux Copper 2 ft. x 2 ft. Glue-up Ceiling Tile and Backslash Kit. Its a great looking tile that can be used in a variety of locations. The product looks great, really looking like a high end copper "tin" tile piece. The kit comes with enough adhesive to put up all the tiles in the kit without worrying about running out. Though they look great, the one negative is the pricing on these. They are expensive and the kit I had, did not contain any edge kits so I am thinking about how to go about dealing with the edges. I wish there was an option to buy a 2 square kit as one project I wished to use the tiles on was short two tiles. Having to buy an entire kit when you only need 2 made it too costly.

Nice addition to a house without many architectural touches. Very light tiles, about the thickness of a yogurt container. Easy to put up, and doesn't seem likely to pull off any underlying paint layers. Probably the biggest drawback is trying to cut to irregular ceiling patterns. Was originally going to do the bathroom, but waaay too many angles around the shower and closet.

These 1/32" thick plastic tiles are easy to work with and bend without breaking. Each 2' x 2' piece weighs 1//2 lb. In my photo, I installed these tiles and another brand of tiles to compare with my current, heavy and color distorted particle board titles. I like the look of these Ceilume titles but if I don't go with them for ceiling tile replacement I might end up making a back splash with them for my bathroom sink. Included in the kit are two 5.5 oz tubes of Adhesive.

Thanks for taking the time to review the Nantucket Glue-Up Ceiling Tile and Backsplash kit. While the tiles will sit in a ceiling grid, the profile of the tile was designed to be glued to a wall or ceiling in an overlapping pattern. That overlapping pattern will prevent the tile from sitting nice and flat in a ceiling grid unless you invert them as you did in your installation. For ceiling grid installations, check out these Ceilume styles available at at HomeDepot.com: https://www.homedepot.com/s/ceilume%20lay-in?NCNI-5

The copper glue-up ceiling tile and backsplash looks extremely nice, it actually does look like the old style copper. These are plastic/PVC material and are extremely light weight. The edges are not sharp so there is no need to wear gloves like you need to with traditional copper tiles.
These will work well for a ceiling or for a backsplash.
The plastic is ridged enough to keep it's shape even while upside down. The material is still flexible and extremely light, only a small amount of glue is needed to adhere to the wall or a flat ceiling.
If you have a popcorn style ceiling or similar and you want to cover it, gluing would not work because the popcorn would come off. To accomplish this, you would need to remove then prime the ceiling. You could also try painting the popcorn ceiling will a few coats of latex paint then glue and nail the tile up.
This tile is a little more pricy that other styles but used as a backsplash it is very inexpensive and I think a very good value for the look.
Since these tiles are plastic they are water resistant.
These tiles overlap by 2 inches and the line is hidden well.
These would NOT work as floor tiles as they are not waterproof and are not designed to be stepped on, they are only for walls or ceiling.
They would work sell outside on a porch but I think they would fade if they were exposed to rain or snow directly on the tiles.
Check out the pictures I attached.

The Nantucket Faux tin looks good, I got the tile for a backsplash for around the stove and sink area. I am waiting to install the new exhaust vent before actually gluing the tile in. My only concern is whether the product will hold up to hot oil splashing on to it. The tin look seems to darken my kitchen but the tile is paintable which is a great option down the line if one tires of the industrial look of the faux tin. I would recommend this product.

These larger faux copper glue-up ceiling tiles are a great way to add style and color to your ceilings. It is also recommended for back splashes but seem rather large for this use. When using on your ceiling, you can cover imperfections, damage, and repair old ceiling surfaces to make them look brand new. The material is plastic which makes for easy installation, light weight, and easy cleanup. Recommended.

These faux bronze ceiling tiles are made of a plastic material which keeps them easy to install due to the lighter weight yet the material seems quite durable. It also provides for easy clean up if needed and for more flexibility during installation. The larger size makes for good coverage on your ceiling. This works well to cover damage as well as visual flaws in the substrate. I will enjoy installing these tiles.
The Nantucket Faux Tin 2 ft. x 2 ft. Glue-up Ceiling Tile and Backsplash Kit came neatly packaged...
The Nantucket Faux Tin 2 ft. x 2 ft. Glue-up Ceiling Tile and Backsplash Kit came neatly packaged. The contents were six tiles, two tubes of adhesive and instructions outlining several uses and the basic approaches and necessary tools.
My plan for these tiles was to hide the hideous wall sections I had around both the stove and sink that is in our basement kitchen. These walls had been spackled many times and not smoothed before being painted over several times. These tiles gave us an excellent alternative to repairing the sheet rock and repainting. Plus, the faux tin look would give the area a classier, cleaner look.
Working with the sheets of faux tin couldn’t have been easier. The instructions recommended using either scissors of tin snips. I tested both and found the tin snips helped me make cleaner and straighter cuts with less effort. But scissors can do the job too.
The next part was the hardest part for me: measuring and cutting to accommodate for a window, an outlet, an exhaust fan and a light switch. The instructions recommend making your cut markings on the front with a pencil, but I found the glare from the overhead fluorescent lighting made it hard to see the pencil line. Instead, I flipped and reversed my measurements so that I could make the markings on the back with a nice, dark, thick marker. I also used a 36” ruler which was helpful in connecting the measurement markings and creating lines to follow for cutting and I think a 36” straight edge would be a useful to add to the recommended tools.
The two tubes of adhesive are more than enough for these six panels. Their guidance on how to apply the adhesive works perfectly and their tip to “move the panel around a little bit to smear the adhesive” really helped to lock the panels into place.
In the past, I would have replaced the sheet rock but instead used this product for a quicker and easier fix. And this being the first time I’ve used this type of product, I left a few small gaps here and there which you might see in the after pictures I’ve attached. I’ll pick up some color markers and color-in those very small gaps.
Overall, I’m happy with how easy it was to work with and the final result. My “con” is they should offer more value by including a few more tile panels.

This arrived very well packaged with the glue. We were planning to use these as a backsplash in the kitchen, but ended up using them as an accent on a hall wall. We changed the use as after trying to cut around outlets and light switch openings we learned it was just too difficult to cut with all the details in the pattern. That being said this is a beautiful product a little expensive for 21 sq. ft but love the look and thinckness of the products. We are planning to use this when we remodel our kitchen this summer, and may even put this up on the rest of the hall walls as it is easier to clean up than painted walls.
