Good morning, I am not sure what you mean by "clear spotting distance". If you are asking what the field of view is for the Landscout 12-36X60, the industry-standard specification is how wide if the field of view at 1,000 yards. For this model Landscout, the field of view at 1,000 yards varies from 165 feet across ar 12X and decreases to 87 feet at 36X. If, on the other hand, you are asking how clear a view will be at a specific distance, that is a moving target. Clarity of distant terrestrial views is goverened by atmospheric turbulence that is generated by the heating of the ground by the sun. This is variable throughout the day. This turbulence is the same that you see as "heat waves" over a stretch of hot highway asphalt. The more turbulence present, the shorter the distance that a target will remain sharp and clear without shimmering created by the atmospheric turbulence.
