Rail bar bends when the door is closed. And chain hangs down 2~3 inches below the rail. Is this normal? When the door is opened/opening, bar is straight and chain is well above the bottom rail. But when it's closed, the bar bends little bit makes the chain to hang down 2~3 inches below bottom rail. I tried to adjust little bit so it bends as little as possible; will this damage the rail or even the hinges on the wall that holds the bar? Is this normal? or is my set up wrong? Bending is some what minimal though.
Asked by: SeanK
OMG - our self-threading screws pulled out and disconnected the opener bracket from the door itself, at which point we saw that the bend in the rail was completely gone. But also we saw that the position the bracket HAD been in was way lower than where it now comfortably reached!! SO whether the adjustment could have been made well enough in the control on the motor, or what we don't know. But we shortened the L-shaped arm and created new screw holes to attach the bracket to the garage door up higher and - voila! - NO MORE BEND in the rail at all! It fits perfectly, up or down. I wanted to suggest that the manufacturer might alter their instructions to say specifically to do that in the first place!

1/2 HP Chain Drive Garage Door Opener is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 435.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from A good replacement for a Lift Master opener I needed to replace an old, failing Liftmaster opener. Since Chamberlain & Liftmaster are part of the same company, the new head unit was an easy replacement for the old one. I was able to retain the old track and chain, which is a good thing because the new chain only has a 7 foot door height capacity and my door is 8 feet. If this was a new installation I would have to buy an extended door height kit at additional cost, since the new opener has a 7 foot chain with a steel cable for the rest of the drive. They really should provide an 8 foot chain (minimum) since there are a number of doors around like my 8 foot high one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value based on type of opener and features I purchased this this opener for a second garage door. Assembly and installation fairly straight forward and intuitive but... 1) The paper instructions could have been better written 2) Illustrations were a bit hard to see (small font) 3) Some of the parts (specifically chain/cable connection) did not match the instructions. I found the installation videos on the Chamberlain website an excellent resource. They did not have a video for a chain opener (all were belt) but 95% of the assembly and install instructions were the same as my unit. Also excellent additional videos on the protective systems setup and Wi-Fi hook up.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quieter than expected, installed easy. I replaced a 11 year old Liftmaster that died with this one. its an 8ft door, i did NOT but the 8ft kit as the few inches of exposed open door is not an issue. directions were okay: whomever though the manual should be horizontal instead of regular book format needs a gentle smack. Font too small, or im too old. or both. i assembled the unit in my house on a old blanket and then brought it out to the garage. used a large trash can to support the motor while attached to the header. wiring was simple. liftmaster used same wiring so only needed new button and sensor. up/down programming was simple.

Didn,t need any extra parts to buy as everything was packaged for 7ft garage door. I bought 2 of them with black-friday price ($ 88.00). Took 3+ hrs for first one and next one was less than 2hrs to fix once I know how to install and setup. Lights are bright and and turns on if you cross the security beam automatically. Overall for the price its a good fit. The wall button has a green led light which is really thought out solution to see in dark garage.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Can't go wrong with this opener It was fairly simple to put together and comes with all the part, including mounting hardware, you will need to install it. Instructions supplied are of course more complicated than the actual assemble was. Best to have two people. Actually faster at opening the garage door than the Geni I replaced it with was. comes with simple single button opener for ONE vehicle & one wire opener. The safety eyes that mount near the bottom of the door were Very easy to install as it hooks onto the track. This makes alignment a cinch. It only has one light, I think it should have two. Does NOT come with a key pad for the outside of the garage. For less than $120 with tax this is a great deal.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Additional Homelink repeater required if car older than 2007 Good price and known reliable garage door opener but if you have a car with homelink older than 2006 or somewhere around that timeframe you'll need a homelink repeater for another $40. New security code not supported by homelink in the older cars. Very poor instruction in box, only says you may need repeater but now why or year of car. I wasted a lot of time trying to program homelink and had to find out online what was going on. Instructions could have simply said cars older than 2006 will require repeater, which would have save me a lot of time and frustration. What is wrong with companies not supplying basic and helpful information.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible quality I am usually pretty good at setting up and installing these kinds of things, but the instructions on this were very vague and it did not include all the needed parts. The track bent the first time I opened it which almost pulled the whole motor off the ceiling. One of the censors stopped functioning after about an hour with no sign of damage to the wire so now it won't stay closed. When it does go down it pushes the door very violently to the point where I would feel unsafe actually using it day to day. I am hoping I just got a faulty one, but that does still mean taking down the entire thing and putting up a non-defective one.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from So far, the opener raises and lowers the door with no issues, but I'm not very confident in these... So far, the opener raises and lowers the door with no issues, but I'm not very confident in these interlocked square tubes, making up the rail, and the polymer tabs on the inside of the trolley. The multi-section rail has more flex in it than I would expect to see for a non-insulated, two-car garage door. I would feel better about traditional angled iron/steel. And the joints between the sections are not smooth, so what happens when the plastic pads wear down on the inside of the trolley? Is the trolley going to catch on an edge of one of these joints? You get what you pay for with this unit. Spend more, get something better.
