Rail bar bends when the door is closed. And chain hangs down 2~3 inches below the rail. Is this normal? When the door is opened/opening, bar is straight and chain is well above the bottom rail. But when it's closed, the bar bends little bit makes the chain to hang down 2~3 inches below bottom rail. I tried to adjust little bit so it bends as little as possible; will this damage the rail or even the hinges on the wall that holds the bar? Is this normal? or is my set up wrong? Bending is some what minimal though.
Asked by: SeanK
OMG - our self-threading screws pulled out and disconnected the opener bracket from the door itself, at which point we saw that the bend in the rail was completely gone. But also we saw that the position the bracket HAD been in was way lower than where it now comfortably reached!! SO whether the adjustment could have been made well enough in the control on the motor, or what we don't know. But we shortened the L-shaped arm and created new screw holes to attach the bracket to the garage door up higher and - voila! - NO MORE BEND in the rail at all! It fits perfectly, up or down. I wanted to suggest that the manufacturer might alter their instructions to say specifically to do that in the first place!

They say you will need the extension rail kit for an 8-ft high garage door.

I could not WAIT to post my review, when I saw how fine this garage door opener is and how easy it was to install. I am a woman, a senior citizen, and our single-car garage door kept seeming heavier and heavier as time went by. I did not have a lot of money to spend on it, but this unit was very affordable - although I wanted to save the cost of an installation that would have doubled the price. When I read through the outstanding instructions - all in English and with detailed, easy to understand drawings - I figured it would just like baking a cake from a recipe. Just do everything in the order they say and don't leave out any ingredients! One thing I did not pay close enough attention to was that the front rail section, where it attaches to over the garage door, has to be installed right side up. I did not notice my error until all the sections were snapped together and I could not pull any apart. So I just built the idler pulley assembly at that end upside down, too; and when I called their toll-free number to see if that was as okay as I thought, I got right through to a very helpful tech support guy who said that was just fine. Also, our ladder was not high enough to prop the motor end on above the open garage door. I could not hold it up and manipulate the wrenches at the same time, and my dear husband with rotator cuff injury only had one hand to lend, plus a good idea: a sling fashioned from a nylon tie-down strap, from which the motor could be suspended from our open frame garage ceiling at just the right place for me to secure permanently.. (See my photo). The whole project took me several hours, but I took my time: reading everything and getting familiar with the parts one night, assembling the components the next night, installing everything and easy programming the next afternoon. 4 or 5 hours all together, probably. But right now we have a working garage door opener! And you can be encouraged that if a 65-year-old woman can install this opener, you probably can, too! Don't be afraid to try - you can always go back and buy the installation separately, if need be. You WILL want a socket wrench, which I did not have at first but in desperation borrowed from a neighbor. Also an adjustable wrench, pliers, hammer, Philips and flat screwdrivers, utility knife for stripping low-voltage wire, wire cutters, drill with 3/16 " and smaller drill bits (for pilot holes), measuring tape, pencil - just regular household tools. I did not bother cutting the hanging brackets for the motor but just let them jut up into the empty attic area; if you want to cut yours, then a hacksaw would be needed, too. The Bible says in Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Him who strengthens me!" More doing!

So far, the opener raises and lowers the door with no issues, but I'm not very confident in these interlocked square tubes, making up the rail, and the polymer tabs on the inside of the trolley. The multi-section rail has more flex in it than I would expect to see for a non-insulated, two-car garage door. I would feel better about traditional angled iron/steel. And the joints between the sections are not smooth, so what happens when the plastic pads wear down on the inside of the trolley? Is the trolley going to catch on an edge of one of these joints? You get what you pay for with this unit. Spend more, get something better.

Less than a year later, the door starts to come down then goes back up again. I can only get it to close by holding the button in the garage down until it's shut. There is a flash code (4 flashes up arrow, 6 flashes down arrow) which indicates the sensor is blocked, yet the alignment indicator on the sensor stays on steady the whole time. I had the installer check it and was told it was either a bad sensor or a bad main board. I contacted Chamberlain through there website and was assigned a case number but I am not getting any response from them. I strongly advise that you do not buy a Chamberlain HD210.

Manufacturer assumes that you'll have two (2) 8-32x7/16 Hex screws laying around to install an integral part of this setup (screws that are NOT included) On page 7 of the installation guide, you're instructed to install the Chain Spreader using these screws, but they are nowhere to be found in the box, nor are they even listed in the first few pages of the installation guide. The unit is nice for the price, so if you decide to buy it, be sure to add these two screws to your shopping list so you don't have to unnecessarily waste time.

More and longer sensor staples are needed. the type provided easily fall/pull out of the sheetrock . When doing the initial down travel adjustment . The door went down too fast striking the floor and BROKE THE PLASTIC PULLEY putting a bend-bow-bind on the travel rail. Now I have to replace the plastic cable Pulley. The PULLEY should be made with a Bearing and out of metal or Aluminum instead of plastic. Also instructions should include the importance THAT the Door stop Sensors need to be installed before Door travel can be adjusted .

The opener was a replacement for the one I had before that I wore out the nylon gears inside. I was able to use some of the same mounting hardware as before making an easer installation. The unit is a cheaper opener compared to others but lasted me for several years. The rails were not the same as the last one and I needed the extension for my door size. I had to order the extensions online since I could not find them in the store.

Even though the new product came with a bar and chain, I only replaced the motor, so it was a real simple installation. Will keep the bar and chain in case I need them in the future. Programming was simple, even though I did need to purchase a new keypad because the old keypad would not work at the same frequency of the new motor.

I had this garage door opener installed by a professional who recommended the Chamberlain brand over others Home Depot sells. I have a lighter single door and it works great at a great price. The only negative is that it only comes with one opener for your car, and I wanted one for inside the house as well. The company who installed it provided a compatible one for an additional $20.
