Questions & Answers

will these sensors work with my 1994 Sears Craftsman (P/N 41A4315-7A) garage door opener?

Asked by: Intense1
Just bought these to replace my 1995 Craftsman / Liftmaster sensors that finally just died. These say for 1997 and newer but they worked perfectly and are not NEARLY as finicky about placement and alignment. Simple. Just remove wingnut and toss old sensors, splice wire to new sensors and install with supplied wingnut made for new sensor. Took less than 20 minutes to replace both. I didn't use the supplied hardware since mine were already in place.

My sensor has steady yellow light. Dose it mean i have to replace it?
Asked by: Cathy
One sensor (the sending unit) should be a steady yellow/amber. The receiving unit should be a steady green light unless beam is blocked.

The original sensors #41A4373A have since been discontinued and there is conflicting info online whether these would work or not. Home Depot's generous return policy would have let me bring them back if they didn't work, but didn't need to - they work great. The LED indicator is on the wrong side if you just want to stick them in the original mounting, but you can still see them if you look closely. They come with mountings but they would have required an extension and a bit of work to get the new mounts to work with the old door, so I just put them in the old mounts. They work fine. Installation took about 10 minutes.

Connected wires (white to white and white-black to white with writing on old wires.) Worked great. Brackets mounted to rails easily. Saved me from buying a new opener. Didn't use supplied connectors. Used "small gray" wire twists.

I called several LiftMaster and Chamberlain (Including Sears) Garage door experts looking for Part # 41A4373A. This part has been discontinued. Lift Master stated despite what the product information states (that it will only work on 99 and newer garage doors models) that is not necessarily accurate information. I replaced the sensors as directed and it worked even better than the old ones. The cold weather does something to the Sensors that make them stop working. The new ones we used had no issues with under 30' temps in Texas. Product directions was easy to follow and install and the new brackets worked with mounting to the garage rails. Overall very pleased with the results.

Bought this to replace the sensors that I've had on my '94 Liftmaster HBW0777, Part # 41A4252-7A. I did a lot of research to see if these were compatible but I had conflicting remarks from Liftmaster support saying they were not and other feedback from customers saying they were. They work perfectly after installation. The only drawback is that I installed them into my existing mount brackets which result in the small amber and green light facing the inside of the brackets and not outward where you can readily see them. That is minor because there is still a small gap between the bracket and the sensor that you can view each indicator light. No issues in the couple of weeks that I've owned the sensors.

One of my sensors is in the direct afternoon sunlight and has been auto reversing for about a year. These solved that problem. Sensors were easily replaced but one of the supplied splices did not make good contact so a minor amount of trouble shooting and use of standard wirenuts solved the problem.

I recently replaced a door opener that was older and did not have safety sensors, so I bought this kit. The brackets are great - they just clip on to the guide rail for the existing door. The sensors attach directly to the brackets without any difficulty. Aiming is not a problem since the sensor cone appears to be fairly wide and an inch off here or there doesn't matter as long as they generally face each other. My reason for the average rating is that the wires are only three feet long: there's is no way they would even reach the top of the door much less the actual opener contact strip. So I needed to buy a roll of two conductor wire, solder and seal this wire to the sensor wire, and then attach to the opener. I guess these replacements are for existing installations, but they came up short in my case.
