Questions & Answers

Can more than one SmartPhone use the app/program to open/close the door?

I don't care if the alerts only go to one email address/account. I need to know if my kids can also open/close the door with their SmartPhones? I would think yes, but since my wireless keypad & remotes don't work, I need to make sure we ALL have a way in. I know there is a MyQ compatible keypad and may invest in this if multiple SmartPhones can't control the door.

My wife daughter and I , could use our phones, until they changed the app. My wife and daughter had older phones. When my wife had to update her phone, the app would no longer work with her phone. I texted and emailed for support. They didn't respond. Several months ago.

Can I still the existing remote in addition to the iphone app?

Hello, If I don't have iPhone on hand, can I still use the existing garage door( a Craftsman 1/2 HP model) remote to open/close the door? There is the key pad on the garage I use to manually open/close the door. -Will both these options be available or is it with iPhone only ? -Will it work with Craftsman 1/2 HP ? Thanks!

Does this work with iphone, android....both?

I have an iphone, but my husband has an Android. Will we both be able to use it on either phone?
Asked by: CoolMom
The box and all of the setup instructions are primarily based on iPhone. I am using an Android based Samsung Note 4, and I had no problems setting it up. Based on my experience, and other reviews, you both should be able to use the same login and password on both phones without any issues.

MyQ Universal Smartphone Garage Door Controller is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 309.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good but could be better I bought and installed the unit with no difficulty. It has generally worked properly, except for the other day when my wife closed the door with the HomeLink in her car (I was there, and the door did close). After a while I started receiving notifications that the door was open, so I checked and it wasn't open. At that time I checked the history and noticed that when my wife closed the door I did not receive the close notification. What I learned from this is that the system does not actively check for an open door, but only responds to an open/close event, so because for some reason when my unit failed to acknowledge a closing event it decided that the door was still open. When I used the app to "close" the door it actually acknowledged that the door was now open, and the subsequent close was properly registered. I doubt that the sensor battery is at issue here, as it is only a few months old. Since that incident, the system has worked properly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Added security to my home. I have just added another level of security to my home with this product. There are a few pieces to set up but it did not take me long. I found the set up to be easy and I was online in no time. The directions are easy to follow with great pictures to help out. I secured the door sensor right to my garage door. The Wi-Fi hub connected easily to an area next to my garage door opener. I downloaded the free app to my phone, answered a couple question and then I was all set up. As you can see in my pictures when I would open and close my garage door it would show up clearly on my phone. I needed this product to check for my self that I did close the garage door, when I leave the house. I tried it up and down for a few days and it continued to work great for me. The app and service is free, which is an added bonus. I have an older garage opener and mine worked fine. It does recommend usage with garage door openers newer then 1993. I would recommend this product and I am enjoying the added security to my home.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works fine, but use the Chamberlain app and not Wink The device itself was easy to install and seems to work okay. You mount it to the ceiling and it registers as a standard remote. A sensor on the door tells it whether the door is open or closed. Except for the power supply, there are no wires. It flashes and beeps when you open the door which is some new requirement of some kind. The biggest problem was the software. The sales clerk said the Wink app would control it and they're wrong. I have the Wink app installed so that it can tell me I always have 1/2 a tank of fuel using my Quirky Refuel (regardless of whether I have any fuel or not). I tried to follow the instructions to link the MyQ to the app anyway. No luck at all. I spent 20 minutes on the phone with Wink support and they were clueless. They determined that the device must be defective. It works fine from the Chamberlain app. So the device is cool and recommended. The software is okay if you use Chamberlain's app. Don't bother trying to get it to work with Wink.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Basically good but should do more I've had the MyQ for our Lift Master unit for nearly a year and it's worked quite reliably. It's activated when requested, restarted automatically after power failures, and provided alerts when open for set periods. For that, it performs as it should. What I do have issue with is the lack of features promoted but missing: Scheduled closings, HomeKit integration. For the price paid for MyQ, the lack of these features make this a highly overpriced gimmick. A webcam can show me anywhere, anytime is my door is open with the benefit of seeing if someone's there. And waiting an extra 10 seconds for my typical car remote to open the garage is not worth $130 to me. So it's a good remote garage opener, and It's nice to open/close anytime, anywhere w/ MyQ app. Without the scheduling and HomeKit features however, it's just too much money for too little control.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very Disappointed My wife got me this for Christmas, I was excited, I love gadgets. Installation and connection to my WiFi was a breeze. Connected the unit to my phone and downloaded multiple firmware updates, after all the downloads I tried it out and the door opened and closed just fine. I set up my phone app to alert me if my door was left open for more than 5 minutes. . . .well evidently the system thought my door was open any time I walked into my garage with my phone. Yesterday I never opened my garage door once, but was in and out of the garage multiple times during the day, and seemed like every time i was in there I'd get an alert that the door was open, even though it was not. I tried resetting multiple times but still had same issue, seems to be a common issue with many reviews I have read online. Seemed like a great idea but returning due to all the false alarms, since that was the main reason for buying the unit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from MyQ I just installed tonight. I had a few glitches, but it was overall very painless. I got it done in 20 minutes and it works perfectly so far. I read some reviews that said they did not mount the gateway near the garage door opener on the ceiling, but rather on the wall across from the overhead door. I took the comments to heart and did the same thing. Good results. It is directly across the garage from the sensor at right angles near the entry door to our house. If I experience some of the problems on false messages, I'll update this review later. On the other hand, when you have teenagers in the house, the door might be operated at times you don't expect. For now, I am going for 5 stars. Note: I had a few error messages setting up the WIFI. I just took a few runs at it and it worked after a few tries. I have plumbing in the garage. A few years ago the door was left open and I froze pipes. This will give me a piece of mind for that, as well as second guessing myself as to whether or not I closed the door after I get to work.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Works great....when it does work The product works very well when it does work but there are too many instances when does not work. You can log into the app and open/close the garage with no issues and then suddenly have no access the very next hour. It does not matter if you are 20 miles away from from your home or 20 feet from your garage. If it decides not to work (often-for whatever reason) then you will have to open your garage from the remote or from the wall unit. The strength of your wi-fi also has no impact on whether or not it wants to work. The concept is a great idea but the product itself (or mainly the app) needs significant improvement. I cannot trust this product to do what it supposed to do while I am away and I will not recommend it. The failure rate is too high.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A gadget I was craving for! Yes, I was craving for this product since long time. Now I can open and close my garage door from anywhere in the world! I can also monitor it to see if it is closed, open or get alerts via email if somebody opens it. I am very happy with its performance. It is very easy to install; less than 10 minutes. The instructions were perfect and easy to follow. A great product from a well known company.
