Installation is extra. We bought the unit at the store and had them come out and install it.

Premium 1/2 HP Chain Drive Garage Door Opener with MyQ Technology is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 570.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Chamberlain Garage Door Opener. Excellent choice Our Genie garage door opener got zapped by a nearby lightening strike. Ditto for our cable DVR, but that's not relevant to this evaluation. The Chamberlain is superior to the Genie in every way. We can open the garage door from about a block away (we live on a one street subdivision), and this bugger also comes with a keypad opener, which the Genie lacks. A neat feature is if the garage door is open, and you walk either in or out of the garage, the light comes on on the opener. It will remain on until you turn it off or close the door. Nice if you are bringing stuff in from a car outside the garage. It's about forty bucks less expensive than the Genie, too (I almost said cheaper, but don't want to use that word when speaking of the Chamberlain). Highly recommended, and I'm not getting paid for this evaluation. Not sure about the installation difficulty, because we had someone install it for us. This was his first experience with a Chamberlain, and had no difficulties. Tomj.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Beware of the extras needed for Homelink & MYQ I'd recommend this product as long as you know what you're getting ahead of time. Be very careful. Because they added MYQ to this opener, Homelink will NOT work! I have 3 cars, all less than 3 years old. I finished the installation of 2 openers. (I'll give more details about the installation at the end.) I tried to program my Homelink for over 2 hours. I then called the help line, and they told me Homelink only works if you purchase a repeater for $50 plus $9 S&H. (I was finally able to negotiate this free of charge, but still wasted 2 hours. I then asked about MYQ, and again told I had to buy a $60 accessory plus S&H. I just received the repeater, and programed all cars in 3 minutes. I replaced 2 20 year old Liftmasters, so the installation was relatively easy. (I used the old Chain, and support.) Bottom line, is be careful, sometimes you get what you paid for...

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst purchase ever, including lousy customer support from the company. Never Chamberlain Purchased this garage door opener 3 weeks ago, got installed by a professional. Noticed the sensor stopped working, so garage door does not close. First I tried aligning sensors but green light does not come on. Called help line, only to be put on hold for more than 30-40 mins on 3 different occasions before I could get some one on line. The rep tells me I am probably not aligning sensor properly (the light came on flasing green briefly as I loosened wingnut and took sensor out of bracket, but then never turned on again after 15 mins of maneuvering, whatsoever). Then he asks me to cut the wires to sensor to test before they can determine if its faulty to send replacement (per warranty). I said I was not going to go thro' troubleshooting but just going to call the person who installed and if the sensor was deemed faulty would they cover the parts cost. He says no, and he seemed pretty rude as well. The overall quality of products and customer service of this company sucks !!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than expected! Should have replaced my garage door opener with this Chamberlain opener years ago. Kept dealing with my old opener because I didn't look forward to the hassle of putting in a new one. Just followed the instructions. I am slow and deliberate so it took me one Sunday afternoon and I finished Monday after work. The longest part was running the control wires above the ceiling. The rest went together fairly easily. I was also concerned about the bracing as this opener track was longer than my old one so the unit was positioned forward of the old one by about 8 inches. There was plenty of bracing material packed with the unit so I was able to add it on to the old bracing and it looks and works just fine. This new unit runs smoothly and it is a chain unit. My wife mentioned how it sounds so much quieter than our old screw type opener. Very happy with how it went together and how it operates.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Superior pain Our old garage door opener died after thirteen years of service. I did some research, read a ton of reviews. I went to Home Depot picked up this beauty got home, read the directions. Then later in the week I assembled the rail, and viola the chain was too short. I thought perhaps the rail was not together all the way. I checked and rechecked the rail but nothing was out of place or assembled incorrectly. I checked the Internet and found where they recommended purchasing a chain extension in the rare case the chain was too short. That told me they have had this problem before and that it was not so rare. So I boxed it up and took it back to Home Depot. I can not convey the enormity of the frustration this was for me. I think I would be perfectly fine opening the garage door manually for the rest of my born days than to have a chamberlain garage door opener in my house. Maybe it was this model maybe it was just this one box. I dunno but I DON'T RECOOMEND THIS PRODUCT EVER EVER EVER!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well and relatively quiet for a chain drive After reading many reviews we went with the lower end 1/2 hp opener with the chain drive. Since the garage is detached from the house, we didn't think we would need the belt drive which is much quieter. Installation was not bad, the instructions were well written, the things that took the most time were mounting the front rail bracket at the right height (we screwed that up the first time and had to make it higher to clear the door) and figuring out how to attach the opener to the framing in the garage. Without the time to the run the electric and our mistake, I figure about 6 hours to install it, including the trip to a nearby Home Depot for the angle iron and bolts. For first timers watching the installation video on youtube will make it easier to understand the entire installation process, Overall it was a relatively smooth installation, though you will need a second hand for a couple of key steps. The car remotes are preprogrammed, and setting up the close and open settings initially on the unit was pretty easy. Overall i would recommend this opener.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great Murphy's Law purchase - very pleased with all aspects of this opener. Great overall purchase. After having our car sit in the hot sun for 5 months due to a cluttered garage -- we finally took a day to get the garage re-organized and our car back into it.....just to have the garage door opener break the very next day. Installation was easy enough and was done in a little over 3 hours...given the 'to be expected' minor adjustments needed when retrofitting a new opener. We had to make some adjustments to the existing mounting brackets in order to accommodate the new opener -- but everything we needed to make this work was included in the box. We were also pleased that we did not need to redo/replace the existing electric eyes and could use the ones already in place as they integrated perfectly with the new opener....saved some time. Overall the new opener - even though it is a chain drive - is quieter than our old opener. We also like that it has two light bulbs to help with overall garage lighting. The external opener was easy to install and program and we liked that the two in car openers were already programmed to work with the door. We haven't utilized the MYQ technology so we can not comment on this feature. Again - very easy installation overall - with great performance. Good purchase...and our car was back in the garage by the end of the day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Chamberlain Premium 1/2 hp garage door opener kit. I reviewed all of the commercially available garage door openers, and debated over getting one with higher horse power. Even if you have a heavy garage door, if your counter balance springs are adhusted correctly, 1/2 hp is more than adequate for the task. The premium model has two light bulbs instead of just one. The extra light makes a difference and was a feature I wanted. This is the first opener I have installed. After removing all of the parts from the box and laying them out, the assembly was straight forward, and the instructions were relegated to backup. After assembling and installing the opener on the ceiling, all that was left to do was to code the indoor, outdoor and remote openers (controllers). This step did however require following the steps outlined in the manual. Again, this was successful the first try. The door operates smoothly and is relatively quiet. This garage opener installl was for a basement "golf cart" overhead garage door. I am planning to replace the two garage door openers with the same Chamberlain product in the future.
