How do you program the DIP switches to one of the buttons? There are ZERO instructions available ...

I have garage door openers from late 80s.."Amarr" on the side, "Challenger" on the back. They don't have the safety optical features that Chamberlain says you have to have. There is no learn button. If you have an old remote, take the cover off and look at the dip switches. Take the cover off of the new remote, and match the dip switch positions on both. The new one will have more, turn them all to 'off'. If you don't have an old remoter, there may be a receiver on the opener itself that will have the same dip switch configuration. I have to remove mine from the opener at the ceiing to see them from the back of the receiver. Now push the program button under the cover of the new remote. Depending on the brand of your opener, you push the button you want to use for that door on the remote a number of times. My old remote had 8 buttons, so the instructions for a different brand with 8 buttons said to press the button you want to use 15 times. Slowly.. it has to stop blinking before you press it again. My didn't work at 15, but luckily I tried an extra push, and it activated the door on the 16th push. It was a long shot for this remote to work with my very old opener, but sure enough it did for 2 different doors.

is battery included or must it be separately purchased?

Pass word protected openers are usually attached to the outside of the door with a code that only the user knows. This universal chamberlain remote is not password protected beyond the code that is paired to the device from your opener when synchronizing it to the unit. To get a password protected device, visit the website and review other products that offer that option

If it does not set up with the instructions it comes with for the dip switches go to the video it recommends but click on the manuel on page 7 or 8 it will walk you through another way to set up. If that fails like it did for me go to page 9-11 and follow those. This worked for me finally

The garage door controller buttons built into our two new cars are incompatible with our "old" garage door power opener machinery so, despite multiple attempts, I could not program them to work. I purchased one of these Chamberlain remote controllers and I was able to program it to work perfectly wilt both doors on our double bay garage, one button for each door. It is small and mounts easily to the visor. I went one step further and removed the steel clip on the back of the remote and replaced it with a strip of Velcro. This allows me to attach it to the visor on the driver's side which already has a "home made" Velcro holder for my wife's handicapped parking hang tag. Now it looks like it was built into the car and it is actually located much more conveniently to the driver than the small buttons built into the cars! Liked it so much, I bought a second one and installed it in our second car which is housed in the other bay of the same double garage. Both work perfectly. I programmed the second button on each for the remotes for the opposite door. I also added small labels next to the remote buttons to avoid any possible confusion. Very convenient. Great product at an excellent price. We have been using the remotes for about two weeks and they work exactly as intended. Another note... since it is held in place by Velcro, we can easily remove the remote and slip it into a pocket when necessary for extra security (e.g, when the car is parked in a public lot, etc.) or if we wish to use it in another vehicle temporarily (e.g., when using a loaner car while one of ours is being serviced).
