Do I have to use a transfer switch with the 6250 Watt unit?

Asked by jayel May 27, 2021

Answers

Jayel, the simple answer is no. There are 2 - 20 amp duplex receptacles (4 - plug outlets). You can use heavy duty extension cords (recommendation is 12 or 10 Guage cords) to wherever you need electrical outlets. There is an additional 30 amp outlet. There are options for the 30 amp outlet. Since I do not have anything in my house that requires 30 amps, I purchased an adapter that the 30 amp outletcan supply 2 additional heavy duty extension cords. Please understand the recommendation to operate the generator at least 25 feet from the house and not near an open window or door to reduce the chance of carbon monoxide fumes entering the inhabited areas. Thus, purchase 50 or 100ft, 12 or 10 guage extension cords to reach where you need electricity. You may get away with a 14 Guage cord if the electric load is small. Example: I run a 10 Guage cord from either 1 of the 20 amp outlet to my kitchen for my refrigerator/freezer combo and the microwave. I run a second 12 Guage to the kitchen for my stand alone freezer and my coffee maker. I run another 12 Guage cord for my TV and internet box. One last 12 Guage for either an electric heater or A/C unit depending on the time of year. I already have a supply of battery lanterns in each room that supplies all the lighting that I need and have replacements batteries in case the power outage lasts more than 48 hours. A transfer switch is nice and simplifies the use. An electrician will ask you which circuits you will want to be operating. The generator still needs to be away from the inhabited building, so some cords are still necessary. Good luck !

We recommend contacting the manufacturer of your trailer, so they can provide you with the necessary wattage needed to power it. Thank you.

Awesome Generator
The set up took a while but it was totally worth it. This was my first time getting a generator. The start up was pretty easy. Everything worked out. I would 100% recommend this to a friend. That needs a generator.

Satisfied
As part of my preparedness tool box I will be using this product for home backup power during emergencies or power outage situations. As a hurricane prone area preparedness is key. This generator is so convenient and extremely easy to set up and use. Highly recommend it and looking forward to purchasing my next one of similar power or a smaller unit.

So far so good. Used with both gasoline and propane. Initially I had issue getting unit to start however; called tech support and was talked through a few steps to determine issue. Once issue was isolated and dealt with (very easily), unit started and worked get with both gas and propane.

So far, so good.
Arrived secured to a pallet. Uncrating was easy and assembly was fast. Battery was fully charged and the unit started on gasoline after about 60 seconds of cranking. After the first start, it fires up immediately. Tested the output plugs and they work fine. Ran it for an hour or so under light load with no issues.

This machine is a beast
After the Texas snowmagedon this winter, we decided to get that generator we've been meaning to for years. I researched generators up, down and sideways. Champion always came out as a great choice no matter where I looked. For the money, no one else has a generator to match it for quality, features and pure power. Oh, did I mention that its rated tops for clean, consistent power? We look forward to many years of use out of this generator.

Home Back-up
Plan on using generator for Home Back-up during power outages. Easy setup out of box with good instructions. Generator started on first attempt using gasoline. Well built with quality parts. A nice upgrade from my Troy Built generator. I'll appreciate the never flat tires. I'll update this review at a later date once I try the Propane hook-up.

So far so good!
Since this is a new purchase, I don't have a lot of use with it, but with the testing I"ve done so far has been impressive. I really like the electric start, the duel fuel option is also great. For unboxing and getting it assembled was very easy, instructions were good.

Works well for the price
Works good. Researched many gens for our camper before buying this one. Not disappointed . Has a RV ready plug runs the entire camper A/c and all with no issues. Electric or pull start . Runs on Pump gas or LP. Good deal for the price. Shipping was quick. Had one little part broke during shipping. Emailed them and the send a replacement part next day.

Awesome Generator
Love the option of dual fuel, it is a lot quieter than I thought it would be, quieter than I thought it would be, more than enough watts

Backup and Travel Trailer use
Purchased to replace an older unit. We chose duel fuel as this is being used at the house during power outages as well as for our travel trailer. All in all I like the performance. The noise level is a bit higher than advertised but tolerable. I have not tried it yet with the trailers 15K AC running.
