Questions & Answers

can you take the two pans out from under the grids and use this grill as an open flame grill? I feel like the grill roasts like an oven

Asked by: Michelle
Thank you all for your responses. I saw 2 mistakes I made. One was that the grids were on upside down... the flat side was up so the steaks had no grill marks at all. The bigger mistake was that I didn't heat the grill long enough. I see thats going to make a huge difference in the appearance and the taste. Thank you again for your quick responses... and might I add... I'm loving this grill now that I know how to use it!!!

can this grill be adapted to natural gas instead of propane tank

Asked by: scooterg
Char-Broil.com can answer that question. I believe it can. Many Char-Broil models have this option.

Do you have to pre-season the grill prior to using for the first time?

Asked by: Abe
Yes, that is simple to do. Heat it up cover it in cooking oil after it cools. Replacement grids are $44 each and it has four of them so take care.

Customer Reviews

Char-Broil Gourmet 4-Burner TRU-Infrared Propane Gas Grill with Side Burner, Silver is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 150.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great BBQ Grill I have owned a charcoal grill, gas grill, and now this infraRED grill and i have to say i have never been happier! This is by far the best grill i have ever bought, i love it! My 16 yr old nephew and myself assembled it on a Saturday took roughly 3 hours, well worth it though. Next day we fired it up and OMG! was i impressed on how well the food came out. It does what it says, the food came out really juicy was not dry at all, the heat was nicely evenly through out. Love the stainless steel look. I would recommend this grill to everyone in my family. For my birthday (2) days after we assembled it, instead of going out to dinner i invited my family for some BBQ slabs of pork baby back ribs and corn cob. Was much better than going out to dinner. I was so impressed how i had no flame flair ups, and how well the ribs came out again they came out so juicy. If you are looking for a great grill for your patio i would say get this one. I have no complaints at all. Your food will come out Great!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Have had this grill since they came out I live in a dry climate and this is by far one of the best grills i have ever seen; i use all the features including smoking meats. I have no rust so im assuming those reviews are for climates much different from mine (tucson, AZ) my two only complaints are that the cooking time; since its basically an outdoor oven it does take a decent amount of time to cook; but even when i forgot about the meat on the grill it didnt burn and all of the decals have flaked off. This grill has had near perfect preformance for just over 2 years which to the nay sayers unless your buying a $1500 weber your not going to get better steel; the grill is well put together with already threaded metal you dont have to worry about dropping or losing nuts when assembling. If i ever decide to upgrade to an island i can since the top cooking unit easily unbolts to attach to any surface. This steel is good quality considering i have had trisodium phosphate spilled all over it twice, the rain for 2 1/2 years, the sun for 2 1/2 years, and even my dog has marked it a few times; to my amazment no blemishes, marks, or rust on the entire grill.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Started rusting in less than a year... This is a decent grill as far as it's cooking performance, but the cheap exterior "stainless steel" started rusting in less than a year. And this is despite the fact that the grill was kept covered and was kept on a covered patio. The warranty, while decent in some other areas, specifically excludes coverage for rust. While a grill in this price range certainly isn't the most expensive you can buy, it's a lot of money for a grill that starts rusting in just a few months. I'm not sure what kind of low quality metal they are using, because stainless steel isn't supposed to rust... While this grill seems to get positive reviews from folks who haven't had it very long, I'm guessing they'll be reconsidering their initial reviews when the rusting starts in a few months. I'll avoid Charbroil from now on and go with a better brand that stands behind the quality of their materials- Weber, for example, warranties against rust.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This thing puts out some great food! After extensive research and review reading, I was sceptical about this grill. I suppose you could say I settled on this grill because it fit within my budget, it seemed pretty user friendly for the wife (she burns) and sheer curiosity about this "Infra Red" stuff. As of right now, we could not be happier. I picked up a rotisserie and the some smoke pellets along with this thing and man, this thing made one heck of a hickory smoked rotisserie chicken, Boston Market has nothing on me! We've also done some of the best burgers we've ever had, yes, they were smoked, I can't stop, just drop them in the pan, it's so easy! Next are steaks, I can't wait. I will more than likely write another review in 3 -6 months to either verify or dispel all the talk of this being a rust bucket. Until then, I'm fat, dumb, and happy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from INSTALLATION ONLY B+ IT'S PACKED VERY WELL. THE SCREWS AND WASHERS ARE IN A PACKAGE AND LAID OUT NICELY AND LABLED AS PER THE INSTRUCTIONS. WHAT COST ME TIME WAS FINDING THE PARTS SO YOU COULD FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS, NO BOXES OF PARTS ARE LABLED AND I HAD TO TAKE EVERYTHING OUT TO SIMPLY FIND THE SCREWS SO I COULD START. IF THEY LABLED THE BOXES WITH NUMBERS LIKE THE DIRECTIONS PROGRESS THEN THIS WOULDN'T BE AN INTIMIDATING BOX OF PARTS. THE ONLY PART OF THE DIRECTIONS THAT KINDA LEAVES OUT INSTRUCTION IS WHERE IT TELLS HOW TO CONNECT THE WIRES FOR THE IGNITERS. TAKE THE TWIST TIES OFF THE WIRES BEFORE YOU PUT THE MAIN PIECE ONTO THE BASE UNIT BECAUSE ONCE IT'S ON, IT'S VERY HARD TO GET AT THE TWIST TIES SO THAT YOU CAN PULL THE IGNITER WIRES TO THE END LOCATION. ALSO WHEN PUTTING THE MAIN PIECE ONTO THE BASE UNIT; KEEP THE SCREWS LOOSE THAT CONNECT THE SIDES TO THE MIDDLE PIECES SO THAT THE TOP SLIDES ONTO THE POSTS; THEN TIGHTEN EVERYTHING UP AND YOU'RE GOLDEN. OTHER THAN THAT THE DIRECTIONS ARE VERY GOOD AND THE PICTURES ACURATE.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Grill I've Ever Owned I love to grill, however I have had concerns over carcinogens created by cooking over an open flame. I'm a cancer survivor and do what I can to reduce the risks. I've looked at infra-red as an option, but past models require constant cleaning or the tiny holes clog up and seriously affect performance. This grill has two concave metal plates that sit on top of the flames and redistribute the heat and thereby eliminating carcinogens created by the open fire. My biggest worry was that this would make my food taste less grilled and more like it was cooked in a pan. It doesn't! I've had the grill for almost a month and cook on it almost every day. It does sometimes get a little smokey as the fat drips and collects in these metal plates, but I've only had one flare-up so far. Because of that I can be a little less attentive to the grill without getting "crunchies" on the burgers as my kids call the sizzled parts! I'd recommend taking off the grates and clearing out the residue from the plates every few uses. It cuts down on the smoke and takes all of 30 seconds. Couldn't recommend this grill more!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from poor quality good cooking Had ours for three years which we cook an average two times a week year round. We replaced the starter twice and finaly quit using it because it broke again. We had to replaced the trays which rusted out at our cost. The second year the frame work which holds the trays rusted out which we welded parts to keep it operating. The final death of the BBQ was the framework holding the burners rusted.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The BEST yet! I've owned this grill now for 2 years. It has been on my deck (uncovered) for those 2 years. It's still like the day I bought it. Not a speck of rust anywhere. As far as the cooking part of it, It's next to none. I can take the temp all the way up to almost 800 degrees if need be. Perfect for searing. Want a little smoke flavor? Just throw a few wood chips in the troffs. Best all around grill I've owned yet.
