Good afternoon, It could be that your Auger's idle fuel feed rate is too high. Try increasing the smoke control P setting to decrease the idle fuel feed rate. (i.e. if your P setting is on P2, try moving it to P4 and see if that brings the temp down some) Please feel free to call our Customer Service Center at 912-638-4724, email Service@chargriller.com or visit our SUPPORT link at Chargriller.com for additional information and helpful service. Thank you!

Poor
I bought this pellet grill several years ago. The first I purchased never worked. (The heating element would not get hot). I took it back for a refund. The second that I got was a floor model. I made sure that it worked before I loaded it up. Well, the third time that used it, once again the heating element would not heat up. I called Chargrill and service said that they would send me a new element and just to tie a string to the old one and pull it out through the control box. Then tight the string to the new heating element and pull it back through. This was NOT a simple process. This worked for a few more uses then the PC board went bad. I got a new board and it would for a few more times before the heating element stopped working. This grill has been used less than a total of 12 times, it has been kept under a covered porch out of the sun and rain. I hate it because I really wanted to like this grill but I could not fell right in recommending this grill.

Here's some help for the people posting negatives
I've owned this grill for over 10 years and I love it. I use it at least 3 times a week year round. I consider myself a master griller and smoker. I have made and owned lots of smokers. I have smoked everything from salt, paprika, peppers, vegetables, cheeses, pizza, desserts, and every meat and fish you can think of. People saying they are burning up the flame rods. Your problem is more than likely NOT the flame rod. It's the controller. The controller isn't turning off the flame rod, so it stays on constantly and burns up. Also your flame rod should only have the tip of it sticking out about a 1/4". Don't extend it into the pellet cup. Take the grates/shields off and empty the pellet cup. Start the grill and watch the flame rod. It should turn off after a few minutes. If it continues to stay red, your controller isn't shutting it off. You will have to replace the controller. Chargriller sent me a free one, even though the grill was over a year old. While waiting for my new controller, I installed a toggle switch on the grill to switch the flame rod on/off to keep it from burning up. Once the grill was smoking, I turn the switch off. You can also manually light the pellets if the rod isn't working. The new controller came a couple weeks later. If your grill fails to light, take every thing out and check the pellet cup. If it is full, empty it and put the pellets back in the hopper. A full pellet cup keeps the air from the blower from getting to the flame to feed it. Wrap the grease tray in foil to keep from having to clean it. Wrap the grease bucket in foil too, and put a small mason jar inside to catch the grease. When full, screw on the lid and discard and get another jar. I have replaced both the grease tray and the flame shield due to warpage when the grill overheated due to the pellets overflowing when the rod quit working. I have also repainted the grill with black grill paint. You can't beat this pellet grill for the price.

Terrible Reliability
I’ve owned this for 6 years, and here’s my list of repairs (none of which the company ever covered under warranty): New auger and auger motor, 3x igniter plugs, 2x thermometer sensors, 4x igniter fuses, 1 new main wheel. It won’t work on my GFCI plug, so I have to run an extension cord from inside my house. I can’t ever use the smoke setting because either the idle fuel rate is too low and the fire goes out completely, or the idle rate is too high, and it never gets below 275 deg. I wish I had invested more initially and purchased a reliable product.

6 years and still going strong.
I have had my Char Griller for 6 years and not one single problem with it and I've cooked a ton on it. I use it at BBQ competitions and cook-offs through out the year and use it at home when not at a competition. Super happy that I found this pellet smoker for the price.

Have used for over 9 years. Had to replace the ignitor once which is no big deal and is not unusual for those to burn out simply due to how they work and the heat they produce. This unit has done a perfect job each and every time. Best smoke flavor comes from low cooking temps below 250 - 275 and spray meat with something like apple juice or ever water. Cool, damp meat will always smoke better. The temperature is always close to where I set it plus or minus a few degrees. And even that is no big deal as all cooking appliances always have a plus minus in temperature. That is just a fact of life.

We have had this grill for 10 years just replaced the old one. This is definitely the set and go grill. I set the temp and it cooks a whole chicken perfectly. Everything we have cooked and smoked has been great. Very pleased with this grill. Last year we smoked a turkey on the old one

Pretty darn Good
I've had it 5 yrs. Always outside 1 season uncovered. Never had a problem. I vacuum it out frequently and clean heat plates and grill, no uses with functionality. Everything comes out great. The thing is heavy wish the wheels were different, those rusted couple times, but some silicone and new paint, good as new.

I cooked on it a dozen or so times and whole while the thing would "explode" and blow the lid open randomly. Then the control panel quit working. I replaced the control panel and used it once and the fire rod burned out. So after a dozen uses I have another $120 in parts in this thing. It is junk, don't buy it. Buy any of the others and you will be happy. I'm going to sell it and buy a different brand. Lesson learned, no more Char Griller for me.
