I am wondering what would be the benefit of using vinyl corner bead instead of metal?

Vinyl corner bead is much quicker, installs without nails. Is much more adorable for getting bumped into. No dents like metal corner bead. And no rust in the bathroom.

I widened two door ways, wrapped them in drywall and needed corner bead. I bought 9 sticks of this, stapled it in place and floated the corners with hot mud. Two days later there were numerous cracks along the edge of the bead. I stapled the bead in place every foot, some places more, some less. I ended up tearing it all out and replacing with pre-taped metal corner bead. What a mess. Use this product at your own risk.

I've used these many times. They do a great job of creating sharp outside corners. You just have to remenmber not to use heavy coats of spackle.
