Over Drive PermaPRO Extra Tall 5th Wheel Trailer Cover, Fits 37 ft. - 41 ft. RVs

Winter isn't here yet, but wanted the Permapro cover to protect our new 5th wheel for the upcoming season. After having owning many previous trailers and using heavy (paper-poly non-woven) RV covers that didn't last one season, I was very pleased to find this cover! The storage bag is amazing with multiple zippers that allow for expandability. Most other brand covers are like a Genie coming out of a bottle (once out, they never fit or can be rolled up to fit back into their original carry case / box). This cover is an actual woven high-strength poly material (water resistant/ repelling) with double stitched and reinforced corners and strap attachment points. Zippered side wall areas allow opportunity to access side doors while cover is on. . My 5th wheel is 13' tall and 38' foot long and the cover is more than long enough. The key to maintaining RV covers is to prepare the trailer by addressing potential problem areas; all protruding rain gutter down spouts need to be covered over with Styrofoam, hollow rubber balls, (or other non water absorbing soft material) to prelude rips and tears in the cover. Other areas prone to cover snagging is the roof top antenna, top of awning arms and rear / side roof ladders - be sure all these areas have some protective material placed over them prior to putting cover on. Should the cover ever tear, its nice to know it comes with an extra fabric repair kit and life time warranty. I'm very optimistic this cover will hold up well given the high quality material and experience thus far. I plan to follow-up with an update review in the spring.

Description: This is the PermaPRO Model 6 Extra Tall 5th Wheel Cover. It fits any brand or model 37-41 feet long by 8 foot 4.25 inches wide by 10 foot 4.25 inches tall. There is a zippered panel that allows access to the RV door. There is a weighted toss bag to help throw the straps ends under the trailer to the other side. Included in the design are air vents to keep the insides equalized in pressure and humidity. It comes with a limited lifetime warranty for defects in material and construction. All printed materials come in three languages; English, French and Spanish. Usage: If you're like me, you want to start with a clean and dry RV. I normally use Wet & Forget to keep the outside clean of mold, mildew and lichen. In a non-use situation, this cover should take care of that problem. I carried the cover case up to the roof of the RV and opened it up. The cover was tied with a ribbon. I took that off and unrolled it, and threw the bag and its contents onto the ground. It is easy to get this part wrong because the instructions are not very good in this area. Needless to say, this cover is huge. If you don't get it just right, you'll be pulling it out in various directions until it is laid the right way on the roof. Do not try this on a very windy day. The insignia will go towards the front, and you can tell from the seams, zippers and such which way is up or down. Once this is figured out, you're on your way. It is good to have a helper on the ground to pull down the sides as you go. There is one big caveat; Be careful – This is very slippery under foot! There is one other caveat; be careful to pad anything on the roof or sides that might snag the cover. Once you've got it hanging loosely over the trailer, climb down to the ground. As long as nothing is snagging it, you can pull from side to side to get the cover centered. Next, start with the front and then pull the extra to the back end. I liked the toss-bag. Take one of the straps, connect one end to the bag and put a big, clean rock in the bag. Stand at one side and toss the bag under the trailer to your helper on the other side. Un-clip the bag and clip the strap ends to the opposite sides where the fasteners are. Pull straps tight to take up slack and anchor everything down tight. I found this process to work well and it was easy. You'll also like the way the cover fits the front and tightens down regardless of your trailer's shape. The left side has no openings, but there are zippered openings on the rear and right side. The rear has one for those with toy haulers that have rear ramps. The right side has four sections all the way down the side. The only trouble I had was that the sections do not open high enough to allow the entry door to swing open without having to lift it out of the way. (See attached photo.) I'm pretty sure that this is because of the fact that this is the tall cover and I have a lower, more compact 5th wheel trailer. There are a couple tie-down problems. The rear hangs a little baggy-like because there is no way to tie it down over the rear bumper. The front has a very nice stretchy cable, like that on the hood of a winter parka, that can be pulled to tighten it down and under the overhang. It has an easy-to-use spring fastener. But the back has nothing like that, so it kind of droops and hangs down loosely. (See photo.) When you unzip the side to get to the door, the section can be rolled up and tied at the top. But the bottom edges of the remaining sides have no way to anchor them. I also thought it a little odd that there was no special way to facilitate tying the sides down where the wheels are. (See photo.) A clip to fasten to a wheel would have been nice. The fabric is lightweight and strong. A great combination for sure. You'll also like that there is plenty of room at the top for any equipment on your roof. I have to say that I like the way it looks. I also liked that I could leave my jalousie windows open under the cover to allow for more ventilation. The vent flaps near the top edge are very good, and the stitching looks like it will hold up well. Over all, very nice! It is just a nice extra touch that they include repair tape for any tears it might acquire in use. Overall Thoughts: My opinion is that the cover is very nice and does a good job of trying to fit every 5th wheel trailer within its length range.

The woven polyester PVC material makes for an easy to clean, sturdy and also tear resistance. The grey color is nice ! The zippers allow for getting in the door and storage !! It also has vents for it to breath !! Long pulls on zippers so no ladder is needed to open vents. Also comes with a large roll of material to make patching easy if torn ! Has it's own expandable bag for storage !! This is a GREAT cover !!!

UPDATE After a year of use, it seems prudent to update my review of this product. I found out why there was a larger sheet of patch material for it; it does not appear to be ripstop fabric because it tears very easily. Further, the bag should have been twice as large because trying to fold it up to fit within the small bag it came from, without precise instructions, appears to be impossible. Finally, it turns out to be a bad design. There are no supports to hold it off the roof far enough to compensate for the dips and valleys created by the protuberances on the roof. I found that the cover collected water and debris, and that created a significant amount of staining, which had to be scrubbed off by hand. A cover is supposed to make keeping your RV clean a simple process. Having to clean the cover instead is not a benefit. I would have preferred to have the roof section as one piece, with the side sections being able to zip to it under a weather flap along the outer edge. That would have made cleaning and folding it away so much easier. I now have to rate the cover as below par.

Update: I did an initial review of this cover was just before the winter season and rated it very high at the time. When we installed the cover on our new 5th wheel, everything went well and it looked like a good fit. We made sure to cover down spouts and all rub / sharp points. When removing the cover for the new season, unfortunately we discovered a lot of paint (friction) damage on the front painted cab. We installed the cover exactly per instructions. It will be costly to repaint the front cap. As a result, I can no longer recommend this product.

We are excited about giving this PermaPro 5th wheel cover a try this winter. I am tired of having to scrub the winter dirt and bird poop and debris off our trailer every spring! We haven't put this on our trailer yet because we are still using it for another month or so. What impressed me so far is that it isn't so horribly heavy and we can easily get it on the roof to roll it out and fit it into place. PermaPro promises maximum UV protection, tear resistant, water repelling fabric, protects from dust and dirt scratches and snow protection. Comes in a super convenient carry bag for storage when not in use. Has adjustable tension panels and elastic corners for a secure fit to keep it from flapping in high winds. Easy access door and cargo areas have zipper panels to get inside the rig when needed. Fits 5th wheels up to 37 ft. to 41 ft. L , 140 in. H maximum Test of time will tell if this is worth the price. But we are super hopeful!

Very poor directions, but cover fit as promised. I will see how long it lasts!

Cover has been on a month and has done great in wind & snow so far.
