The lid snaps on and fits snug but doesn't seal. Therefore, if you are using it to seet tea you will need to cover it with something other than the lid. I use a type of sealing paper.
The lid has a filter but not one that would work as a water filter. It's more for keeping pieces of fruits or small loose tea grounds from slipping into a glass.

yes. The boiling point of water is 212 degrees and the pitcher is good to 300 degrees plus I've put boiling water straight into the pitcher from my tea pot.
