Very configurable, but the kit might not be the best solution for your particular closet
Each and every closet is different. You can look at a pre-built closet online and easily say "hey! i want that!" But it very well may be that it's not the best solution for your situation. That was the case with my closet. So i saw this kit online, and thought, "This is how my closet should look!" Except that it wasn't really feasible. There were a number of major differences between what the 'sales shot' shows, and what i needed my closet to do. In my particular situation, i had a deep closet. I needed lots of large shelves for comforters and blankets, and a large, full-length bar for hanging clothes. PLANNING Luckily for me, this system is infinitely (literally) configurable, in that i was able to get exactly what i needed without having to sacrifice adding things that i didn't need. While this is excellent, this particular 'kit' had many unused components as they did not fit to my exact application. What do i mean by this? Well, my mini-closet was just shy of 4 feet wide, yet very deep. And although this closet set came with a number of shelves and drawers, this application did not require them. I ended up visiting my local Home Depot and buying more pieces to fit the closet as i needed. This was quite easy as Home Depot stocks any number of different ClosetMaid components, allowing you to choose exactly what you needed. So with one swift visit, i was able to complete the closet. INSTALLATION So what was my installation experience, and how does this system perform? In a nutshell, it was everything i wanted from a modular closet system. The singular hanging rail allowed you to place the vertical support bars where they would fit you best. As long as you thought out your layout ahead of time, this system allows you to have modular, movable shelves and a reconfiguration setup on the fly. The one thing that immediately comes to mind is PLANNING. You really need to plan out which of these modular components you want your closet to contain. I erroneously built the closet support system FIRST, and then as an afterthought went to add the shelves and drawers. BIG MISTAKE. It turns out that these components need EXACTLY 24 inch center-to-center vertical rail alignment to fit. The main installation instructions only tell you that 24" is the MAXIMUM distances between vertical supports. That's it. They don't tell you that this 'exact' measurement is what is required for use of the cabinet accessories. Only when you unpack the shelve units do you discover the directions to install the vertical supports at 24" center-to-center. That's a pretty big oversight. The wooden cabinets/drawers are themselves quality and well-made. The instructions are clear, and they come together quite quickly. They look great when fully assembled, and can be used sitting on the floor or hanging on the shelf track system. SUMMARY Buying this closet as a pre-planned 'boxed kit' is not recommended. The cost is high, and undoubtedly your needs are not what is pictured. If the closet style is what you are seeking, then you can still by all means use this ClosetMaid system. But i would plan, plan, plan ahead, and determine what parts you need and buy those individually from Home Depot. No need to commit to a kit with un-used components. Aside from that, the closet system is solid, sturdy, and relatively easy to install. Allows for near-infinite configuration possibilities that offer excellent durability.

Okay, but not my favorite closet system
We installed this system in our guest closet, and a similar Martha Stuart one in our master closet. In case you are installing the uprights into drywall, you will want to use a 5/8" hole, there were no directions on the hole size on the packets of bolts so we had to keep going up in size. Also, because you are drilling these huge holes in your wall measure more than once and make 100% sure you are in the right spot otherwise you have a huge hole to patch. This system is based on add-on elements like the drawers and shelves, they attach with little hooks on the back. Because of this you need to be very accurate when you install the uprights. One of ours was about 1/8" off and it was almost impossible to get the drawer hooked on. I personally prefer the Martha Stuart closet system we got from Home Depot as well, it seemed much easier to install the add-ons because they just bolted to the main uprights which just hang off a top bar. Also when you start to add your elements, work from bottom to top. I tried to go from top to bottom and it was a PITA to get the bottom shelf on, trying to hold the heavy shelf up a few inches off the ground and get the right angle to get it on. I fought it for a good 30 minutes and was pretty irritated when I finally got it on. She wire shelves are basic, nothing impressive. I do not care at all for the tiny clothes bar. It is super small, and they put one of those huge stickers all over it that you have to rub for an hour with goof-off to get off. It also just hangs on the end of the wire racks, which have no way to be bolted down. I'm one of those people who catches things on the wires and will eventually pull the shelf off the wall along with whatever else is on the shelf. I hung a few heavy jackets on the clothes bar, and I could see it pulling down on the shelf. Our Martha Stuart bars are much beefier, and feel like I would swing off of them. The drawers are just okay. They slide, but aren't nearly as smooth as the Martha Stuart system drawers. But they work. All of the add-ons you have to build, and they are pretty simple to make. They do recommend using wood glue though. Overall it's an Okay system, but Home Depot carries other systems that are much easier to install and I personally think look much nicer.
