Beautiful set, moderate complexity
We really like this closet set and it really does look nice in the master closet now that it's finally in. The install, however, was more complex than I had anticipated. The closet I set out to remodel was the largest in the house. It's an 8ft deep, walk-in style closet that is 4ft wide at it's widest. There was some existing shelving in the closet at different levels, some of which I had to first remove to make room for the new organization system. Once I had the closet all ready to go, I set about with the install. I first assembled the furniture. This goes together fairly easily, although I did struggle a bit with the drawer. There was some missing hardware that, thankfully, I had replacements for in my spare bolts bin. Due to the shape of the closet, my wife decided to break from the traditional, linear install and move some of the pieces to the back wall. No big deal, except that I had to cut some of the mounting hardware down to make it fit right. There are two types of mounting hardware components that are common to the system. The first is the primary structural component that installs horizontally across the top. This piece is used as the hanger for the vertical units that the shelves attach to. Each vertical hanger piece has a notched section in the top to allow it to mate to the horizontal unit. Since I went about trimming and cutting on my system, I had to notch a few of these pieces myself. The metal work was minimal in retrospect, but I had the right tools. The manual recommends you use a hacksaw. This would work, but I found that a ferrous metal blade on my table saw worked best. These are fairly inexpensive and will save you a TON of time. Now, my wife has a TON of clothes and shoes and hanging space is a real premium for her. We opted to NOT use the smaller shelves in her closet because she needs the additional hanging space. We will likely use these shelves elsewhere in another closet because they really are nice and we don't want to not use them. We are also likely going to buy an additional drawer to add to this system in the master. The drawer plus one shoe rack sits at a very nice height from the floor and still allows for plenty of hanging space above it. Another oddity I didn't consider was that the vertical hanger does not go all the way to the floor if you have baseboards. Obviously you don't want to cut through your baseboards to install this system, so I just left the vertical racks end at the top of the baseboards. This then raises the shelving units off the floor as well by about 2". You can vacuum under them with a small enough vacuum, so It doesn't seem to be an issue. Just not exactly what I had expected. They seem very, very sturdy though, so that's good. The system comes with all the hardware you will need to put this in. They throw in a TON of butterfly drywall anchors that work great and hold it firm. I did add some of my own 3", course thread drywall screws for whenever I was able to drive directly into a stud. The drywall anchors are 3/16" anchors, but you have to drill a 1/2" hole in the drywall to push them through. What I typically did was to hang the vertical supports on the top rail, then line them up with one of the shelves to get the proper spacing. I'd then level them individually and mark the holes. When you drill the 1/2" hole, it does leave you with some wiggle room, so absolutely perfect alignment isn't critical. Overall, this whole process took me about a day, not including cleaning the closet out to begin with. This is a good weekend project, but I would very much recommend you make sure you have the right tools to begin with. I recommend the ferrous metal blade and table saw, or at least a dremmel. You will also want a hammer, rubber mallet, 1/2" drill bit and cordless drill, impact driver, pair of pliers (needle nose), a level, tape measure, wood glue and both a phillips and flat head screwdriver. Oh, and safety goggles when cutting the metal of course. This is definitely a moderate complexity install, but the result is truly brilliant. I love how flexible the system is and the overall appearance is very luxurious. My wife loves it and it turned a totally unorganized mess into a neat and tidy space with plenty of room for her to find what she needs AND get dressed.

Great system, just not the most efficient use of space for our closet
First, the unit arrived in about 10 different boxes, ranging from very long and awkward to big and heavy, but everything arrived in perfect condition. After unpacking everything, I couldn't find any real instructions on how to get started designing or assembling the system. Being that this was my first experience with a commercial closet system, I wanted to get it right. I looked at the instructions provided on HD which gave me enough information to know that the hang track should be installed as close to the ceiling as possible so it would anchor securely. From there, I located the studs in the wall and decided on the placement of the standards (vertical rails). I only had to secure one standard using the toggle bolts - the rest I was able to find a stud, but having to pre-dill for the anchor bolts is a scary proposition if you are prone to mistakes! Knowing what I know now about having to anchor everything into studs, I probably would have purchased a different unit where the add-ons are only 16 inches instead of 24. Also, TAKE YOUR TIME with installing the standards to make sure they are straight and perfectly parallel to each other. Lesson learned that being off even a small fraction makes it nearly impossible to hang the add-ons. As for cutting things to size, do yourself a favor and have some very large bolt cutters on hand to cut the wire shelves and use a jig-saw with METAL cutting blades to cut through the hang track (it's much faster than a hack-saw). Once that was done, it was time to start on the add-on units. So on to the add-on units. They were all packaged and labeled with complete instructions for assembling each unit. Everything is held together in typical flat-pack style, cam locks and dowel pins. If I never see another cam lock again, it will be too soon! I wasn't impressed with the 9-slot organizer, the material used is pretty flimsy and even with the shelf pins provided, I would only put lightweight items in there. The drawer, 2-cube and 3-shelf units were all easy to assemble and look nice. After taking all that time to assemble the drawer unit, I realized I wouldn't be able to use it because the jamb/surround/whatever that is called around the closet blocked the drawer from opening fully. Also, I don't know why they call it a 3-shelf unit when there's really only 2 shelves if you install the units right on top of each other like the example pictures. The laminate finish is very thin and very prone to damage so just keep that in mind and be careful when handling. That said, the color and appearance of the laminate is a very nice dark cherry color. Plan on spending a full day to complete this project if working alone or get someone to help with assembly to cut down on time. All in all, I would recommend this system for someone who has exactly 8ft of closet space to work with and has a clear plan on how things should be laid out. Our closet is only 5 1/2 feet wide so it definitely limited our options with layout.

Looks great with fair assembly
This closet is very well designed and greatly thought out to provide spacious room by implementing organizer drawers and shelves. I'm very pleased with the shelves that can be adjusted in any direction and can also be easily removed to make space by easily pulling them out off the track. This closet looks excellent just like the pictures show with a cherry laminate wood that gives a high quality look. Assembly was fairly easy for the big pieces because instructions were clear. On the other hand, I was required to do some cutting and re-drilling of tracks to line up with the studs and that consumed most of the assembly time. In the end, I spend 2 days (about 8 hours total) working on this. Overall, I highly recommend this in a master closet because you can easily fit your wardrobe neatly through its greatly designed organizers and adjustable shelves.

Very pleased
I am very pleased with the outcome of my closet project. I had a walk in closet with a large back wall and only one shelf with space to hang stuff prior to this system. Needless to say my closet needed an upgrade. I had some initial trouble with the freight company that was used to ship this to me but through communication with the vendor we were able to resolve everything in time and get everything straightened out. The installation was very easy, but is definitely easier with two people. It is critical that when you are installing the tracks everything hooks into that you measure everything twice and use a level to ensure that you Don't have to move it around. Once installed it's very difficult to move. So measure twice! The longest portion of all of this was putting all of the cubbies together as they had to all be done by hand, it was like putting together stuff from Ikea, but with no missing parts. It does require glue, I used wood glue but I'm sure any strong glue would suffice. Overall I am very pleased with the turn out!

A Great Addition to the Closet
After reading some reviews about this system being difficult to install or needing additional pieces beyond what was included I was a little nervous about attempting the install. I became even more nervous when the five or six HUGE boxes showed up. As I opened them and started digging in everything started to make sense and actually seemed very straightforward. I started by assembling the storage pieces. This process, though fairly simple, took awhile because there are six individual pieces. They all went together very well and are quite sturdy. The only issue was that the drawer front is a little crooked. After putting these together I leveled and hung the top rail and from there just arranged the standards and attached them using the included hardware. The instructions on Home Depot's website were a huge help and all the hardware (and then some) was included and high quality. The system was installed in two evenings of work, maybe 4 1/2 hours total, and it is absolutely top notch. I've been able to fit my entire wardrobe of casual and professional clothes along with 19 pairs of shoes and some winter gear neatly with nothing on the floor. Closetmaid really paid attention to detail with this system and I couldn't be happier with it
