I hate to give a horrible review, but this system is junk. I didn't realize the cabinet was made of pressed wood. It was hard to put together, as the wood didn't want to hold the screws and one of them wouldn't tighten down. I put it together in the garage rather than the closet. That was a mistake. As you will see from the photos, it fell apart when we moved it. So, basically, after spending an hour and a half putting it together, it disintigrated when carefully moving it.

Easy, peasy
I put this together and hung it in my bathroom in about 3-4 hours total. Really increased my storage capacity, which was the goal. By the way, I am a 66 year young grandma.

A good product but with limited applications and installation challenges.
First of all, I like ClosetMaid’s products. I’ve installed at least a half dozen of their closet systems over the years. They’re sturdy and generally easy to install. But this Noir Wood Closet System Hanging “Tower” misses the mark for me. In my opinion it’s not a “tower” unless it’s nearly the full height of the closet. These are just hanging shelves. Instead I’d suggest ClosetMaid’s full-height, floor-standing model #4370 “Style+ 15 in. D x 25 in. W x 82 in. H Noir Floor Mount 6-Shelf Wood Closet Kit With Hang Rods”. But maybe there’s something on the floor preventing placement of a tower? Or you only need a couple of shelves higher up the wall? Then this might work for you. A few notes about installation. One, you’ll be making LOTS of holes in your wall - 10 to be specific, and most of them are large (1/2"). If you ever remove the unit you’ll be doing a lot of patching! The instructions for assembling the shelving are straightforward. (Hint: You’ll need both large and small Phillips screwdrivers) But the instructions for mounting the unit on the wall could be confusing for a novice. Even if you’re an experienced DIY’er read steps 7, 8, and 9 carefully - You must attach the hang track to TWO studs with screws AND use FOUR toggle bolts in the drywall for a safe and secure mounting. The location of those studs constrains where you can place the unit. Refer to the two pictures of the hang track. If the desired placement of the shelf centers the hang track on one stud, you’re out of luck! The second picture shows it screwed to two studs, but now the unit is a few inches off to the side - can you accept that? Step 7 is confusing: “Using measuring tape, make sure hang rail is above 31” from the ground.” Yes, that’s the *minimum* height, but you’ll probably want it around 6-7’ high to allow room underneath, as shown in ClosetMaid’s pictures. Once the hang rack is securely installed, and you’ve hung the shelf unit on the hang rack, you still need to secure the shelves to the wall at all four corners with the provided screw-in anchors and L-brackets (step 11). The helpful hints suggest doing one at a time, but it’s difficult to do that with the shelf in the way. Recommendation? CloseMaid’s Style+ line? Yes. This hanging “tower”? Only if you have a unique situation that requires the form factor. Dimensions: 14.59 in. D x 25.12 in. W x 31.28 in. H Model # 1794 (hanging tower)

I combined two products the Closetmaid Modern Walnut Wood closet system hanging tower and separate rods to make an open closet in a spare bedroom. The room is in the basement and not an official bedroom, since there is not an escape window. Thus it had no closet built. The product was made to be an insert inside a closet. However, by raising the bottom board a little I was able to put the rod on the bottom. Since it came with two rods I put the second rod in an existing closet that had high room in the front. See both pictures. It was easy to modify the original plans slightly and get was I needed.

Easy to assemble serves the purpose of additional space but will not work as a stand alone. It has to be hung from the wall with the provided bracket and attached to the wall. Everything you need to do this is supplied but it isn't stable without mounting it. Once it is installed as designed it works and is totally stable just don't think you can just put it on the floor.

Unique unconventional design as I am accustomed to hanging kitchen cabinets or garage cabinets that you screw into the wall/studs in several locations. Building this shelf was very frustrating. The directions are poor at best even though I am accustomed to building furniture. I spent way too much time trying to deal with the lack of labeling and precise instructions. There are references to panels by letters like A, B, C etc. but nothing was labelled. The L brackets did not have pre drilled holes for proper placement and there were no indications that you needed to create your own hole in the cabinet. This tower relies on a single large metal brace to support the weight of the structure and 4 small L brackets for added structural stability. I regularly use this type of metal brace for heavy mirrors and found then to be rock solid and my preferred method of hanging heavy items when attached to wall studs. It has a stated load capacity of 200 lbs which is adequate for any closet as we tend to store clothes, pillows or other items that are not super heavy. I am struggling to think of a reason why I would install a hanging shelf in my closet. The description is to allow the area under the unit accessible. I feel like this is a solution looking for a problem to solve. If you look at the picture on the packaging you see this shelving structure is several feet above a couple pair of shoes. If the cabinet extended to the floor you could still put your shoes there and even place a shelf right above it for more shoes. I do not doubt somebody might need something like this and this might be the perfect solution for them andI I hope it serves them well. I guess if you have longer items like Skis it might make sense but you could also just stand the long items up rather than lay them along the floor. We have decided to use it in the garage. Unfortunately we have a bunch of cr#% (stuff) that we need to clear before I can successfully deploy. We like ClosetMaid products but this was a negative experience. We have 3 large closets and all of them have ClosetMaid organizers in them. We are accustomed to the units that sit on the floor and are anchored to the wall with L brackets.

The Closet Maid Noir Wood Hanging Closet System is a great addition to the already diverse Closet Maid collection. The Noir color is dark, rich and definitely stylish. This system allows you the ability to add a personal touch anywhere you decide to use it due to the the various sizes and shelving options which provide a wide variety of configurations. We definitely decided to use this system in an unconventional way. Thinking outside of the box, we decided to use these hanging shelving units in our media room. We are creating a custom entertainment / shelving console that will flank either side of the TV. We are also going to use it in the other corners of the room to display a wide variety items from sports memorabilia to my daughters intricate LEGO masterpieces. The shelving units are extremely easy to put together and can be completed in no time at all by one person. However, they are pretty heavy and I would strongly recommend getting someone to help lift them and get them in place. A definite plus is the fact that Closet Maid provides the proper hardware to hang the shelving units with complete piece of mind. There are only two things that I wish were different. The pewter / gold colored bar that is used to mount the shelving unit to the wall stands out against the dark noir color. It would definitely look better and not stand out if it was a dark matte black. It wouldn’t be an issue in a closet, where your clothes would typically hide it, however when you want to use it in an unconventional way the little details count. The final change that I think would add that finishing touch would be some sort of insert to fill in the void between the mountain bracket and shelving system. With those two small suggestions aside, this is a quality product that I well worth the investment no matter where you decide to use it.

This beautiful bleached walnut ClosetMaid Hanging Tower stands 56.5 inches tall and is 25 inches wide with 15.5 inch deep shelves, plenty of shelf space to make a huge difference for storage. I followed the instructions and the unit was put together in about an hour. The shelves are adjustable. I especially like this shelving unit because of the solid shelf surface as opposed to wire shelves.

Got the product in two boxes. Shelf unit and the clothes hanger rods. There was enough to make a shelf with the center cabinet and three rods (one on one side and two on the other side. It did not include top shelf board over the rods. The shelf module was very easy to assemble with provided tools and a #2 Phillips screw driver. It had twist lock fasteners to assemble the two sides and the bottom and top. The unit is a hanging unit . The shelf module actually hangs on the wall as opposed to siting on the floor. Documents say it will hold up to 500 lbs. The hanger bracket is bent metal piece with holes for screws and a 45 degree bend along the length of the bracket that slides into the sides of the box. It looked like this could slide off in a quake so I used an "L" bracket (provided for a different purpose) to screw into one of the holes at each end of the bracket to then attach to cabinet walls so it would not move horizontally and fall off the bracket. A 23 3/4" 1x1 board could be placed inside the top of top open shelf. It could be screwed to the studs provided they leave room for coat hangers.. Clothes rod brackets are pairs that slide apart to touch the side of the shelf cabinet and the wall to the Left or right and are held in place by two screws each. The rod has a notch at the bracket ends to keep the rod from sliding together. I installed a 1/2 x 4 board on the wall to accept the wall bracket. If you can hit a stud that works too. Nice finish in black. Only problem was the bracket was just long enough to meet the outside of each side of the shelf cabinet. Will fit across two studs but not 3. This leaves one side to have a significant space from the screw to the outside edge of the cabinet wall. When the weight of the cabinet encounter the larger space edge it was able to slide further down into the bracket. One end did not and the other did slide down, so it was slightly out of level. Should still work as is, but making it level might put less strain on one side than the other side. Daughter was happy with the unit.

I really thought my closet was bigger than it really is. I got two for this closet but only one would do. I really love the results, so love things organized and has it's own place. I needed to fit two kids in this closet but what can I say, to small. I did put the bottom shelf on wrong and had to pay for it. But it worked out in the end, I love the results.
