Customer Reviews

HL4 145 Lumen Dual Color LED Headlamp with Hardhat Compatibility is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 116.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of the most useful things I've bought in a while For the price this headlight is hard to beat. I bought it so I could cross country ski after dark near my house. It works really well for that. But I find I use it for all sorts of other activities such as working in my barn after dark, moving wood outdoors, etc.. It's very comfortable and really provides a large flooded area in front of you. And because it's hands free there's just so much you can do. I'm still on the original batteries and it's been close to a year of pretty regular use. I can't recommend it enough. You can pay about twice the price and get a much brighter light, but this one really is great for about 90% of what you would need a headlight for. I haven't used the red LED yet but I imagine it would come in handy if you were trying to read a map or something and retain your night vision. This much, much brighter than some of the cheapo's so it's very much worth it's price. Actually, I think this is cheap for what it is.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for biking and hiking This head lamp is very ideal for biking and hiking at night. the "throw" of the light is excellent and illuminates the trail nicely. It was great for a quick night ride up the mountain and on the road, as well as camping. This head lamp uses 3 AAA batteries in a sealed casing that sits on the back of the head strap. this make it nice so the head light is balanced, not all the weight is at the front of the unit. The head lamp also pivots to allow for different ranges of motions. the only down side is you can't adjust the beam like a normal flashlight. It's a great head lamp for the price. one of the best i have ever owned. I'm actually going to buy a couple for stocking stuffer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Handy Light This little light is like having an extra hand. Slip it on your head and you have both hands free. The light is bright and a nice white light as well. It is well made too. I tried it out under our house spraying for insects and it did great. I would recommend this to anyone needing a work light. Awesome little light.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceeded my expectations I wanted a head lamp because so many times I can't do something or read small writing while holding a flashlight. It is so comfortable and light weight. Sometimes I forget I'm wearing it until I pass by a mirror. The light is bright and it's adjustable as well as the headband. I like to use the computer at night with the lights off but it's hard to type in the dark. I put on the head lamp and type and chat without disturbing anyone in the house. I highly recommend this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I bought this to replace a different headlamp because I got tired of clicking through all the set... I bought this to replace a different headlamp because I got tired of clicking through all the settings to turn the light off, or find the brightness/color that I wanted. I like that this light has two buttons, one for white the other for red. I wasn't sure how I would like the top strap, but it doesn't bother me and I think it's probably necessary to make the battery pack comfortable. I didn't think I would like having the battery pack separate from the light, but it's nice that I don't have this heavy thing hanging off the front of my head. Overall: a nice bright white light, a dim but adequate red light that preserves night vision, and a comfortable head-strap.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Keep One In Your Toolbox/Bag This is a must have item if you work in construction (electrical, plumbing, framing, drywall, insulation, etc) or you frequently do a lot of home improvement projects. I've used this a couple of dozen times in the short time (about 2 weeks) that I've had it. The headlamp is powered by 3 AAA batteries. Three Duracell batteries were included and already installed so the light was ready to go. Unlike other headlamps I've seen, the batteries are mounted in a separate battery pack on the back of the strap. This reduces the amount of weight by the lamp which could get in your way or cause the lamp to start to slip down in front of your face. I found a couple of undocumented/unconventional uses for this headlamp. The first is for drywall finishing. LED lights produce a very directional light. This makes it great for identifying rough spots, pin holes and other defects in drywall mud. While sanding the joint compound pop the light on once in a while to examine your work and any flaws in the finishing will be easily identifiable. You'll be able to get a glass smooth finish. Defects are much more pronounced than using an incandescent or even halogen work lamp and it's much more convenient. The directional quality of the light also makes it easy to spot unevenness or dirt on other surfaces. One day when walking up my stairs while playing around with the light I discovered how dirty my stairs were. This was just a day after I cleaned them. The other strange use I discovered one night when I woke up thirsty.I happened to have the headlamp on my nightstand and decided to pop it on and use the red light. The red light is dimmer than the main white light. It uses only 1 red LED compared to the 5 white LEDs of the main light. It provided me with enough light to find my way around and I didn't have to deal with any bright lights. It seemed to help me get back to sleep easier when I returned to bed. I've used the main white light while doing some plumbing, electrical and even rewiring my TV equipment. The headlamp puts a bright white light exactly where I needed it without having to worry about where to place a work light in a tight space or spending time trying to get the light at the right angle. Both hands were free which allowed me to work more comfortably. When I was swapping out a bathroom faucet I was able to see everything I was doing while on my back inside the small, dark vanity or worry about burning myself if I accedentally touched the lamp. I haven't had a chance to take it out hiking along a dark path at night but I did get the opportunity to take it for a stroll along a dark area and both the red and white lights allowed me to find my way. The elastic straps are comfortable and adjustable. After a short time you forget you even have it on.The straps are red and black which make it easy to find in your toolbox or toolbag. There were two small issues I had with the light. The lamp tilts down but there are really only 3 detents. This wasn't a huge deal as I never found myself wishing the light could be at a different angle. The other is that there are two switch buttons. One for the red light (on top) and the other for the white light (bottom). If you turn on the red light, then decide you want to switch to the white light, once you turn the white light on you won't be able to tell the red LED is on. This isn't a huge problem but it will drain the batteries a little faster and not really provide much additional light. You need to remember to switch off the red light when you're going from red to white. This is a very nice light that's easy to use and leaves your hands free to do other things. The construction and components seem durable. This headlamp will get a lot more use and from the looks of it, it'll be able to handle it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bright This headlamp is at the very least worth considering. As for the good, it is bright which is what I bought it for. And it does not have the multi step on/off switch. One light level which is good in my opinion. Why do so many manufacturers of these lights think we want all these multi brightness levels? When you advertise a light with 120 lumens that is what I buy it for, not the other levels that many want to include. Also there is an extra separate button for the colored light. As for the not so good, it is a little clunky with the battery pack on the back and the power cord to the light is way to long and bows out from the headband. It could become a snagging issue in tight situation unless it is strapped down. Overall I am satisfied with the light but I have seen better designs.
