Dear Customer, Thank you for reaching out regarding the FlipToggle® 1/4 in. Hollow Wall Anchor. Whether this anchor can be used depends on what is located directly behind your drywall: 1. Drywall Mounted Over Solid Material (No Hollow Cavity): If your drywall is installed directly against solid concrete, brick, or a solid wood stud with no hollow space behind it, NO, FlipToggle® cannot be used. As a toggle anchor, the metallic toggle head requires an open cavity behind the wall to flip open and clamp against the backside of the drywall. • For solid concrete or masonry, we recommend using concrete screw anchors like CobraTap® or CobraTork™. • For solid wood studs, drive a wood screw directly into the stud without a hollow wall anchor. 2. Double or Thick Drywall (With a Hollow Cavity Behind It): If by "solid drywall" you mean double-layered, extra thick, or solid-core sheetrock that has a hollow cavity or stud bay behind it, YES! The primary feature of FlipToggle® is its ability to span thick hollow wall assemblies (up to 3 inches thick), delivering exceptional holding power (up to 274 lbs shear in 1/2" drywall and 418 lbs in 5/8" drywall). Required Clearance Note: Always ensure you have at least 2.5 inches of hollow clearance depth behind the wall so the metal toggle head can flip into position properly. Best regards, Technical Support Team Cobra Anchors Co. Ltd.
Dear Customer, Thank you for your question regarding the FlipToggle® 3/16 in. Hollow Wall Anchor (SKU FT31610 / FT18250C10). Regarding your inquiry about whether this anchor will work for a full-motion 50" TV wall mount, we have the following technical and safety recommendations: * Stud Mounting is Highly Recommended: For any full-motion or articulating TV mount, we strongly advise against mounting the bracket solely to drywall. Articulating mounts create a massive cantilever effect; when the TV is pulled out or rotated, the movement acts as a lever, multiplying the tension (pull-out) forces on the top anchors. Over time, constant movement will fatigue and crumble the soft drywall core, regardless of the anchor used. Your main mounting points should be secured directly into wood or metal wall studs using heavy-duty lag bolts. * Drywall Loading Specifications: If installed in drywall alone, a single 3/16" FlipToggle® anchor provides a safe working load of 134 lbs (tension) and 212 lbs (shear) in 1/2" drywall. While these static load capacities easily exceed the weight of a typical 50" TV (usually 20 to 50 lbs), these ratings are certified for static, flush-to-the-wall loads only, and do not account for the dynamic leverage of moving arms. Best Practice Installation Method: 1. Direct Stud Attachment: Locate your wall studs using a stud finder and secure the center or main path of your TV bracket directly into the studs with structural screws. 2. Plywood Backing Method: If your stud spacing does not align with your TV bracket, we recommend mounting a 3/4" thick piece of plywood across two studs using lag screws, and then securing your TV bracket directly to the plywood. 3. Auxiliary Support: If one side of your bracket must sit over a hollow cavity, the FlipToggle® is an excellent choice for securing those specific outer mounting holes to prevent the bracket from twisting, provided you have at least 2.5 inches (63.5 mm) of clearance behind the drywall for the metallic toggle to flip. To protect your valuable television and ensure a secure, worry-free installation, please prioritize anchoring the primary weight-bearing bracket points directly into the wall's structural studs. Best regards, Technical Support Team Cobra Anchors Co. Ltd.
