Thank you for your inquiry regarding item: Cut-to-Size Silver Cordless Light Filtering Solar Fabric Roller Shade 34.5 in. W x 72 in. L. This product does have a lock to hold the shade from coming out of the brackets. An outside mount will still work even on a french door. I hope this helps! Item arrived promptly. Item was as described. Item is easily adjustable to fit window. The outside light is diffused. It does block outside viewing. The main drawback was the clips provided. The clips were to use when raising and lowering the shade. The clips were small binder clips. The clips were too small to use easily. They were difficult to open. close and grasp. I went to a local dollar store and purchased chip/snack bag closing clips. These work much easier. I did install this after the "hot" season and am curious as how well the anchoring tape will withstand sun and heat.

I installed this product in a window above my stove top.I absolutely love this product. It is so easy to wipe off if anything splatters on it.And the spring action for rolling it up makes it easy to open in the mornings when I want to let the sun in. The instructions are easy to follow, but there are many. My suggestion is to read over them 1st and then follow them 1 step at a time. Everything you need comes in the package except the tools of course. The size is perfect and exactly the dimensions advertised. I simply measured my window and bought the size that would fit. I have double windows in my entire home and I am going to install this blind in every single one of them between the panes.

Nice shades but watch your measurements closely it is easy to make the width shorter then intended. If you need to shorten the width, I found it best to measure the inside frame of the window where you plan to install the shades and then take that measurements (“F” as per instructions) and then subtract 1-1/2” (inches) for the shade and add a 1/2” to the shade width for the required distance to cut the rod (when you see the instructions you'll know what I mean). The instructions say 37/64” but really that is rather difficult to measure on a tape. And besides 37/64” is just a hair over a 1/2”..so simply use the 1/2” number instead of the 37/64" number, it worked out well. I also measured the width of the glass window (window minus the frame that goes all around the window, pic) to ensure that the shades will still cover the window. The shades can be installed either inside or outside of the window frame box. I found that the advertised measurement was misleading. It says 31” wide but the shades are only 29-3/4 inches wide. So if you are trying to cover a 30” width window, the shades will not cover the window adequately. These shades can be shortened just remove the bottom trim bar, trim to desired length, and re-insert the trim bar by folding part of the bottom of the shades and sliding the bar onto the bottom of the shade (see Pic). I would trim the length at least 4” longer than the window covering to ensure proper coverage and flow. If using a power drill to install, then be careful for the provided screws are cheap. - I used a 5/64” bit for a pilot hole and a 1/4”socket (a flat head screw driver will work too) to drive the screws. It was a pain to get the retraction to work properly, either the retract system wasn’t “wound” enough that the shades would not retract or too “wound” that the shades would not stay down. After much trial and error I was finally able to get the spring just right that the shades would stay down in any position I desired but I still had to “walk” the shades back into the full retraction mode. Overall nice looking shades, provide partial blockage of the sunlight, and is easy to install and does the job well and stylish.

I love the idea of this roller shade. The fabric is perfect to filter the UV Rays and lower the heat transference from the sun hitting the shades. The shade still allows for the light to enter the room, however it is filtered and provides just enough light. We installed them behind our shutters. Their design allows them to roll out of sight and their appearance in the down or up position is still very clean and ascetically pleasing to any decor. Really impressed with the ability to have the ability to filter the light and UV Rays or have it store in the up position for unobstructed views. Install: I do believe that install is somewhat involved. Cutting the shade, roller and bottom bar are the most difficult. You must be proficient using a hack saw to cut the roller and bottom bars (both are lightweight metal). The shade itself cuts with shard scissors, most difficult part is ensuring you have a straight and even cut so the shade fits the window and isn't uneven. I used a yardstick and pencil to mark the shade and then slowly cut the shade fabric. My unit did not include the handle shown in step 6 as of the review I am waiting to hear back from the manufacturer.

I needed a solar shade for my home office. i opened the box and there was a missing part, the little pull, which goes at the bottom of the shade, i would not have installed it anyway. the directions are all drawings and arrows. they were clear, but only for the install. the quality is first rate, the core is extruded aluminum and the shade material is a nice heavy gauge, thicker than any shade i have owned. my biggest issue was using it. any shade i have owned, a little pull down and the shade would pull itself up. this shade, you pull it up and the spool at the top winds it up. nowhere does the documentation say that. the only other issue was the lift force wheel.there is a grid in the directions or how many full rotations to use. it is very difficult to accurately count full rotations. i had to take a few tries at the correct force. overall it is a great shade and I bought another one.

I enjoy sitting on my patio and enjoying the outdoors but I always have a problem with the setting sun in the afternoons disturbing my outdoor tranquility. I had been thinking about finding a barrier between me and the sun. After searching Home Depot's website I found the perfect solution in the rolling sun shade. The ideal of this sun shade is that it is retractable and can be hidden from view. Retractable shade uses a spring system with no cords to get in the way. Not only does it act as a sun barrier but as minimizes the heat gain. Can be set at any desired height, speed of shade can be adjusted to the desired take-up. Can be cut to desired width.

This shade is polyester with a fine weave pattern. It has minute holes appropriate to the simulated fabric. Although a European import, it is better quality-wise than other imports. The shade was installed on the north side of our home where it does not get the sun, but allows light to filter through. I had a number of issues with the instructions and parts list versus supplied parts, which is why I marked this review down in overall rating, quality and value: 1) The shade needs to be trimmed even if the final desired width is the supplied 48" (it's actually less than 48"). 2) The instructions provide calculations in 64ths of an inch. My tape only shows 16ths, nothing smaller. Besides, accuracy to 1/64" is overkill for a window blind, especially one that will be hand-trimmed. I worked with 9/16", which is just 1/64" different than the required 37/64". 3) Instructions refer to 'shortening' the blind, rather than adjusting its width. 4) Cutting instructions for the bottom rod indicate that it should be cut 37/64" shorter than the trimmed blind. This looks like a mistake, or for a rod different than what was provided, so I cut this rod the same length as the blind width. See 5). 5) Provided parts do not agree with the parts list. The tension mechanism shown is different. The bottom rod looks different. The end caps provided for the bottom rod are not shown in the parts list or the instructions. This was the clincher for my comments in 4). The two listed and shown parts that make up the pull and attach to the bottom rod were not provided. 6) No guidance is given for placement when mounting the blind inside the window box. If this is done, one needs to ensure the outermost screw is more than drywall-thickness (1/2") from the wall edge, or it will not anchor into wood. Also, the brackets cannot be mounted hard against the sides, as space needs to be allowed for the thickness of the bracket covers that are installed later. 7) Before trimming the blind, take careful note of how the bottom rod attaches to the shade, as it needs to be removed to trim the width of the shade, and this detail is not provided in the instructions. A narrow piece of adhesive-backed material is used to locate the material in the rod, and needs to be carefully removed and the blind trimmed before it is replaced. 8) No instructions are provided for shortening the blind. This can be quite easily done, provided the caution in 7) is heeded. I chose to remove fabric from the top and had a similar issue with attachment to the top roller. 9) Instructions for adjusting the tension do not make sense. 'System Size' presumably refers to blind width, though it's unclear whether this is the starting width (48" for this product) or the cut-down width. How is this affected by reducing the length by almost half, as I did? In any event, the tension adjustment does not seem to help much. The blind does extend and retract, but it needs to be nursed. Overall, we like the blind and it is effective for our purpose, though my recommendation comes with the caveat that you are prepared to work with the issues I have detailed.

The silver solar spring roller shade, after it was installed it did block the bright afternoon sun and reflection from the canal outside and does what it was designed to do. BUT the spring and the adjuster wheel did NOT work and the only way was to roll it up was by hand and eventually it would be full of hand prints and not the way it was intended. The pull was missing from the hardware kit but listed as a part. There are also several other parts listed as optional at extra cost. You have to supply your own screws to mount it.
