Product Overview

For DIYers and professional tradesmen who recognize the importance of going green and using natural timber harvested in a responsible manner, turn to this FSC-certified PureBond Birch Plywood from Columbia Forest Products. Each 3-ply sheet features a decorative birch veneer on the face, which exudes the warmth and beauty of natural hardwood to supply your carpentry creations with visual allure. Furthermore, the 1/4 in. x 4 ft. x 8 ft. panels are manufactured with a soy-based PureBond technology that is formaldehyde-free so it won’t deteriorate air quality, as is common with UF-constructed sheets that are susceptible to releasing airborne contaminants over time. Intended for interior use, these birch plywood panels are an affordable way to craft authentic hardwood-faced masterpieces such as built-in cabinets, entertainment centers, tables, shelves, headboards, wall panels and more. With an eye toward sustainability, Columbia takes pride in manufacturing this Earth-conscious product and takes seriously its responsibility in replenishing forests for future generations.
  • Certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) as a responsibly harvested timber product, which means your purchase supports healthy, sustainable forests
  • 3-ply hardwood plywood panel is assembled with smooth, patch-free birch veneer applied to only the face side of this panel; the back of the panel is not intended to be exposed
  • PureBond hardwood plywood is an environmentally friendly, cost-competitive alternative to panels manufactured with urea formaldehyde (UF), which may degrade air quality over time
  • Contains 100% natural wood bonded with a food-grade soy-based adhesive that does not emit toxic air contaminants
  • Decorative top veneer, measuring approximately 1/42 in. T, exhibits the beauty and timeless quality of natural hardwood and is suitable for painting or staining
  • Water-resistant composition has a higher moisture tolerance than UF panels and is less likely to warp than solid wood
  • Allow panel to acclimate to interior climate conditions for several days before customizing - for interior applications only
  • For best cutting results, use an 80-tooth (or greater) table saw blade intended for sheet goods or a carbide-tipped circular saw plywood blade
  • Common: 1/4 in. x 4 ft. x 8 ft.; actual: 0.141 in. x 48 in. x 96 in.
  • Direction of the grain is the length of panel
  • Each panel weighs approximately 21 lbs.
  • Grade: C-4 - see grading guide for additional information

can I use this for the ceiling of my patio. it is not in direct contact with Sun and Rain

IMHO, it depends on how much humidity it is exposed to. If it is a screened-in patio you probably want exterior grade plywood. My recommendation is to use plenty of nails/screws and an exterior grade paint.

How will this work for an outdoor application, specifically for the top surface of a skateboard ramp?

Asked by Jeff April 22, 2019

Answers

Hi, when you say the top surface, I hope you do not mean the only top surface as this is only 1/4 inch thick. this wood is hard and smooth yet flexible enough to work for a surface that may have bends in it. but it is not going to be great at load bearing at this thickness so you would need more then 1 layer. as far as outside use goes, it would have to be sealed vary well and still should be protected from rain and snow if you want it to last a long time.

How strong are these?

Good quality plywood - I didn't observe any voids in the mdf core and the outer wood was nice. It absorbed stain well (except for an oil mark). I used two sheets to make a bunch of floating shelves. Using this plywood made them very light weight but they held together well. The nominal thickness is 3/16" and not 1/4". The color and grain patterns were pretty uniform on each side which was very nice. I normally use 3/16" Maple Plywood or 1/4" MDF core Maple Plywood but these worked great as well and are a little bit cheaper

Very nice looking sheet of plywood
Received the plywood today from the freight shipping company. One little spot on the edge got dinged, but overall received in great shape. I like the grain look that it has. The plywood has 3 layers. The center and then the two birch veneer. This plywood should make some very nice drawer bottoms or other pieces to some high quality projects. Great piece of plywood to have around the shop. I'm sure it will get used up very quickly.

I use the wood on my glowforge machine and 9/10 the wood is massively warped. It does cut nicely on my machine but it makes it difficult to use at times due to the wood being warped.
