can this panel be ordered in 4 ft x 8 ft panels?

Answer

This can be ordered through the prodesk as a special order, as long as your local store is in an area that we serve. Call me at 336-291-5869 if you would like to discuss details and I can verify that we serve your location. Thanks -- Michael

Are both side of the white oak panels sanded A sides, or is there an A and a B side.

One side is smoother than the other. The side with the most grain look is a little rougher. However, that makes it look and feel like real wood. It is by no means "rough", it's just not as smooth as the other side.

Is this product going to be available?

The COLUMBIA FOREST PRODUCTS 3/4 IN. X 2 FT. X 4 FT. PUREBOND ENHANCED GRAIN WHITE OAK PLYWOOD PROJECT PANEL has a really nice grain to it. Once I cut the pieces, there were no holes or gaps in the layers that needed patched before I finished them. It cut very nicely when I used my fine cut plywood blade on my table saw, I had virtually no splintering. I wanted some additional shelves for an entertainment center, and this worked great! I used the iron on veneer tape for the front edge and after I stained them, they look really nice.

Good looking veneers with good pattern and color. A few small flaws that should smooth out with a little sanding. Even with the thinner plys I had a few edge sections with voids. Nothing that would impact the integrity but something to be aware of in the off chance your edges would be exposed. On the one pass at the table saw I used masking tape and a high tooth blade to keep chipping to a minimum. Same goes with jigsaw cuts and all went smooth. (literally and figuratively)

Nice looking veneers with good uniformity, pattern, and color. With this type of lamination I've never come across 100% clean layers and this panel is no exception. A few voids but nothing that's gong to ruin the integrity but you'll likely want to be aware if you have exposed edges. Cuts clean with a higher tooth blade (80 tooth) but I also used masking tape to double down on chipout protection.

(What's this)
I saw that white oak project panels are available in 2 x 4 foot panels and thought I'd take a look to see if it is a good choice. Although I haven't put this panel into a project yet, I really like what I see. First of all the size is convenient for hauling and is fine for smaller projects. The color and grain on both sides of the sheet are very good, so this can be used in places where both faces are visible even if they are not painted. I'm glad I spotted this panel and I look forward to putting it into use. I like to have some thin plywood on hand for a variety of projects and needs. Even painted it's best to start with a smooth panel face, and for stain & varnish the smoothness, grain and color are critical. The last few years I've been using luan plywood for uses when I need thin panels. It's usually smooth on one face, has some knot holes filled on the back and has a color and grain pattern that is acceptable for a number of uses. It is usually sold in 4 x 8 foot sheets which is more than I often need. The color and grain of the white oak is much better for uses with open grain woods, like oak, and the white oak panel will certainly get used in a project where it complements quality woods. (Probably as a part of a furniture piece.)

(What's this)
Columbia Forest/PureBond makes good quality, hardwood-veneered plywoods but this particular line doesn't excite me. The quality is excellent, with a three-ply core covered by a reasonably thick “display” veneer on the front and a lower quality veneer on the back. Naturally, both sides will need finish sanding, but the grain in the White Oak is so deep it will require filling to obtain a smooth finish. The bigger disappointment to me is the veneer color itself. The wood looks less like white oak than hickory, and the enhanced grain adds to that effect. The price is also quite high, with “enhanced grain” being as much as 2x higher than regular grain. I'll stick to regular grain and enhance it myself via dyes and pigments.

Columbia Forest Products Plywood...For me...Has provided consistent, high quality plywood panels in every one I've gotten from them. Initially, I was really hesitant about receiving plywood via mail order. I'm one who needs to touch, and look over any wood purchase. I had fears of the plywood arriving all banged up, scored, and warped. This is not the case with Columbia Forest Products line of plywood. This sheet arrived in a very strong box. The plywood inside was sandwiched with a stiff piece of cardboard further protecting it. Upon inspection, there were zero voids on the panel. All edges were smooth, no warping at all, and both sides had a nice grain pattern, and were smooth. That's about all anyone could hope for...Quite honestly, I don't even think I could find a plywood panel in the stores having as nice a quality as this panel has. Overall, I am a convert for anything Columbia Forest Products sells. Top quality, extremely satisfied, and Highly Recommended!!! I'd be hard pressed to find a 2'x4' sheet of plywood as nice as this in a store. This is one quality sheet of plywood. I've been using Columbia Forest Products plywood sheets for some time, and the quality is always superior. The sheets are extremely well packed and arrive with no warping. Their sheets have no voids, cracks, or rough edges. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with their products, and will continue to purchase their plywood whenever the need arises. Highly Recommended!

(What's this)
This enhanced grain plywood is perfect for a limed or cerused finish. The hardest part of those types of finish is clearing out the softer latewood to get the right texture. It's already been done here. I've done this in real wood quite a few times (with oak and ash) and this is done really well. It is a fairly even texture and won't require anything more than a light 220 grit + sanding (unless it gets dinged up). The panels are a good size for most projects and are easy to handle. I haven't found any voids even when cutting the panel into smaller pieces. This is a great option to have commercially available and opens up a lot of design ideas. Only one side of the plywood has the "enhanced" grain. The other is just white oak.

This project panel had a few voids between the plys which is not good if you are using this for anything nice. In addition to the voids one side looks to have had filler applied on one of the faces. I have attached pictures to this review so you can see what i was talking about. The 1/2 plywood i normally use has 5 plys and this board only has 3 total plys.
