  • Hardwood plywood strength, performance and durability
  • Easily create lasting, beautiful furniture, cabinets and more
Veneered construction gives these decorative PureBond Birch Plywood Project Panels the strength, flatness and rigidity to satisfy the most discerning craftsman. Each 7-ply sheet is assembled with a soy-based PureBond technology to fortify its structural integrity, with the added benefit of being formaldehyde-free so it wills not off-gas toxic fumes over time as UF-constructed plywood is known to do. The decorative veneers are precision-cut from domestically grown, sustainably harvested birch trees, producing visually alluring wood grains on the face and back of the panel that exhibit the warmth, beauty and timeless quality of natural hardwood. Featuring real timber throughout, the core veneer consists of natural yellow poplar substrate laid in alternating cross bands for utmost stability and ruggedness. It's a cost-competitive alternative to urea formaldehyde-laden plywood and will not contribute to air-quality degradation like composite panels. For extraordinary results on your next carpentry or woodworking project, add this 3/4 in. x 4 ft. x 8 ft. panel to your arsenal for construction of cabinets, entertainment centers, wall panels, coffee tables, bookcases, toy chests, benches, desks, shelves and more. The decorative veneers have a smooth finish that allows painting or staining to make it uniquely yours.
  • 7-ply sheet is assembled with smooth, patch-free birch veneers
  • PureBond hardwood plywood is an environmentally friendly, cost-competitive alternative to panels manufactured with urea formaldehyde (UF), which may degrade air quality over time
  • Contains 100% natural wood bonded with a food-grade soy-based adhesive that does not emit toxic air contaminants
  • Decorative top and bottom veneers, measuring approximately 1/42 in. thick, exhibit the beauty and timeless quality of natural hardwood and are suitable for painting or staining
  • Water-resistant composition has a higher moisture tolerance than UF panels and is less likely to warp than solid wood
  • Allow panel to acclimate to interior climate conditions for several days before customizing - for interior applications only
  • For best cutting results, use an 80-tooth (or greater) table saw blade intended for sheet goods or a carbide-tipped circular saw plywood blade
  • Common: 3/4 in. x 4 ft. x 8 ft.; Actual: 0.703 in. x 48 in. x 96 in.
  • Direction of the grain is the length of panel
  • Each panel weighs approximately 70 lbs.

Is this finished on both sides?

EVERY answer is incorrect except the first one from Colombia. This product has NO FINISH!! End of story. This ply has a veneer on each side and is sanded, but it has NO FINISH

Is Baltic birch plywood different than the birch plywood listed? If so, what is the difference? Thanks, johnv

Asked by: johnv
¾” PureBond Birch is 7 ply and ¾” Baltic will have 13. Depending on the grade of the Baltic Birch – you may have football shaped wood patches in one side of the panel

Veneer Thickness

How thick is the layer of veneer on this plywood? Also, is the picture shown really of this product? I see 5 ply in the picture, but answer to questions say it is 7 ply.
Asked by: Webster
this is a 7 ply panel. It has 5 layers of wood and 2 thin layers of Birch veneer on the face and back of the panel. The Birch veneer is .023” or 1/42” thick.

Pure junk, yet sells for the same price that the product with twice the plies sold for just two years ago. It delaminates easily, is full of voids and is less than the lower metric equivalent. Will not be buying anymore of this plywood from Home Depot. Some purchasing agent got a huge deal on this garbage. There are better offerings at dedicated lumber suppliers. Buying this just promotes the availability of more of the same. It must have been made while still quite wet, causing it to shrink excessively and deteriorate the glue layers in the process. It's closer to 5/8" plywood than 3/4". Call it what it is and quit advertising it as 3/4". 99.9% of America is not using metric tape measures incremented in 10ths of a mm. Pay more for full dimensioned, domestic materials. You'll actually save in the long run.

Like others have mentioned, the laminate is somewhat thin, so if you have an older blade, a wobbly blade, or just a cheapo saw that can't get up to the higher rpm, this will splinter all over the place. For the price, I would have expected a bit better quality, but if you cut this with a higher quality saw, you should have no problems. This is extremely easy to use a kreg jig on, and the board was straight as an arrow with no bowing. The wood grain actually looks nice, but pay attention at the store as many had some wood filler in them because of scratches and dings. All in all, not bad, but a bit expensive considering how thin the laminate is.

I HAD ALL THE PROBLEMS MENTIONED ELSEWHERE. THE VENEER IS SO THIN THAT ANY ATTEMPT TO SAND IMPERFECTIONS OUT OF THE SURFACE WILL GO RIGHT THROUGH INTO THE NEXT LAYER, AND STAINING WILL NOT HIDE THE DIFFERENCE. CUTS TORE UP THE LAMINATES NO MATTER WHAT SAW BLADE I USED, WITH OR WITHOUT TAPE PROTECTING THE CUT. TOTALLY MISERABLE STUFF. THE WORST, HOWEVER, IS THAT THE PLYWOOD HAS ALMOST NO STRENGTH. MY 33" LONG BOOK SHELVES DEFLECTED BY AS MUCH AS 3/8" OR MORE IN THE CENTER WHEN LOADED. EVEN PARTIALLY LOADED WITH NO BOOKS IN THE CENTER 18" THEY WOULD STILL DEFLECT BY AS MUCH AS A 1/4". I FINALLY HAD TO SCREW FULL LENGTH ALUMINUM "L" STRIPS TO THE UNEXPOSED EDGES TO GIVE THE SHELVES ENOUGH STRENGTH TO HOLD BOOKS WITHOUT BENDING. BUY SOME OTHER BRAND.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Defective Product Purchased a sheet recently for a childs toy box. I have purchased sheets in the past for cabinets and it was great! Cut for the box, assembled with trim and poplar, and sanded the box. Everything looked great. As soon as I applied primer, voids under the veneer bubbled up and thr joints between veneer sheets lifted. I was able to peel up the veneer with my finger nail! The final product looks terrible, even as i continued to wood fill and sand. Worst of all, HD did not stand by their product and refused to offer any refund or store credit. Unfortunately I dont know how to identify a defective sheet vs a good sheet at the store. I will be seeking a new plywood source.

It cut up nicely with my jigsaw and became a lovely tree for my ceramics display! The grain is gorgeous and I can't wait to see how it takes a stain.

Front side is good although the veneer is very thin. Back side is another story. There are voids in the veneer, a lot of knots (which are okay) and the finish is very rough. I tried to sand the roughness out with an orbital sander and quickly sanded through the veneer, with the roughness remaining. I find this product to be unacceptable, especially at $50 a sheet. I'll be looking for another supplier for my next project.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Quality Plywood I rated it one star only because the rating scale didn't offer a "0" option!! I bought 3 sheets of this 3/4" finished plywood from HD to make carcasses for two 6 ft tall cabinets for our laundry room. The stability and quality of this plywood is absolute junk. I experienced warping up to 1.5" in 6 feet. More importantly, the warping wasn't just simple bowing, but an S-shaped warping which made installing 1.5" face frames impossible. With the number of significant voids in the plies, it's not surprising that this product is so unstable. A close examination of the plywood reveals widespread thickening and thinning of individual plies which is inherent in cheap wood and manufacturing. Furthermore, the plywood is somewhat brittle and splinters badly even with brand new, quality router bits and a $100 Tenryu saw blade. I had to relegate the two cabinets to the basement for simple storage shelves. I'm off to Austin Hardwoods next week to buy quality, real cabinet grade plywood!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Quality Plywood I have been woodworking for a number of years now, first as a framer not as a finish carpenter, and this PureBond Birch from my latest project was phenomenal. There are very few voids in the plys, the faces were smooth and held up great to cutting. The plywood was also flat and not bowed, which was great for the display cabinet I was building. Even though this plywood cost a little more the quality makes it worth it, as well has not having formaldehyde or other toxins just an added bonus. From here on all my plywood projects will include PureBond! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
