  • Hardwood plywood strength, performance and durability
  • Easily create lasting, beautiful furniture, cabinets and more
Veneered construction gives these decorative PureBond Birch Plywood Project Panels the strength, flatness and rigidity to satisfy the most discerning craftsman. Each 7-ply sheet is assembled with a soy-based PureBond technology to fortify its structural integrity, with the added benefit of being formaldehyde-free so it wills not off-gas toxic fumes over time as UF-constructed plywood is known to do. The decorative veneers are precision-cut from domestically grown, sustainably harvested birch trees, producing visually alluring wood grains on the face and back of the panel that exhibit the warmth, beauty and timeless quality of natural hardwood. Featuring real timber throughout, the core veneer consists of natural yellow poplar substrate laid in alternating cross bands for utmost stability and ruggedness. It's a cost-competitive alternative to urea formaldehyde-laden plywood and will not contribute to air-quality degradation like composite panels. For extraordinary results on your next carpentry or woodworking project, add this 3/4 in. x 4 ft. x 8 ft. panel to your arsenal for construction of cabinets, entertainment centers, wall panels, coffee tables, bookcases, toy chests, benches, desks, shelves and more. The decorative veneers have a smooth finish that allows painting or staining to make it uniquely yours.
  • 7-ply sheet is assembled with smooth, patch-free birch veneers
  • PureBond hardwood plywood is an environmentally friendly, cost-competitive alternative to panels manufactured with urea formaldehyde (UF), which may degrade air quality over time
  • Contains 100% natural wood bonded with a food-grade soy-based adhesive that does not emit toxic air contaminants
  • Decorative top and bottom veneers, measuring approximately 1/42 in. thick, exhibit the beauty and timeless quality of natural hardwood and are suitable for painting or staining
  • Water-resistant composition has a higher moisture tolerance than UF panels and is less likely to warp than solid wood
  • Allow panel to acclimate to interior climate conditions for several days before customizing - for interior applications only
  • For best cutting results, use an 80-tooth (or greater) table saw blade intended for sheet goods or a carbide-tipped circular saw plywood blade
  • Common: 3/4 in. x 4 ft. x 8 ft.; actual: 0.703 in. x 48 in. x 96 in.
  • Direction of the grain is the length of panel
  • Each panel weighs approximately 70 lbs.

Why is this Purebond 3/4" plywood only 0.703" thick? Has plywood been downsized again? For years, the "standard" for 3/4" had been downsized to 23/32" (0.719")...this Purebond plywood is even thinner than that. Almost impossible to create dadoes for furniture. Almost not worth buying this stuff anymore.
Asked by: Photog1514
Plywood is generally 1/16" thinner than its nominal thickness.

Asked by: JLS
It is prone to blotching but it'll stain, just pre-treat it first. Do a test piece.

EVERY answer is incorrect except the first one from Colombia. This product has NO FINISH!! End of story. This ply has a veneer on each side and is sanded, but it has NO FINISH

Customer Reviews

3/4 in. x 4 ft. x 8 ft. PureBond Birch Plywood is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 465.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Quality Plywood I rated it one star only because the rating scale didn't offer a "0" option!! I bought 3 sheets of this 3/4" finished plywood from HD to make carcasses for two 6 ft tall cabinets for our laundry room. The stability and quality of this plywood is absolute junk. I experienced warping up to 1.5" in 6 feet. More importantly, the warping wasn't just simple bowing, but an S-shaped warping which made installing 1.5" face frames impossible. With the number of significant voids in the plies, it's not surprising that this product is so unstable. A close examination of the plywood reveals widespread thickening and thinning of individual plies which is inherent in cheap wood and manufacturing. Furthermore, the plywood is somewhat brittle and splinters badly even with brand new, quality router bits and a $100 Tenryu saw blade. I had to relegate the two cabinets to the basement for simple storage shelves. I'm off to Austin Hardwoods next week to buy quality, real cabinet grade plywood!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Recommended - read the review I have found the quality to be consistent and highly acceptable for staining and painting. I have experienced no cavitation problems in the core. I shopped around and purchased from two other suppliers. HD’s direct competitor sells a “similar” 5 layer core plywood for $2 more. I found their product to have some cavities in the core and the veneer was not as smooth. There was also more splintering along the edges of the sheet. The third source was an 18 ply furniture grade product (highly recommended for the 5% of shoppers making fine furniture). In the $33 to $46 price range, I prefer the ¾” birch over the oak and pine plywood. I find I have more uses in future projects for the leftover pieces, since they can be painted or stained. For the “woodworker” looking for all-round good value, this is my recommendation. I have recently switched to water base stains and finishes and have had minimum problems with standing fibers following the application of the stain and finish. My evaluation is based on the purchase of 21 sheets of ¾” birch from December 2012 to February 2013.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Look Elsewhere My 4x8ft sheet of Birch "5" ply (with very thin .03" real wood veneers-not really another "Ply") arrived from truck shipment in good condition. For storage and eventual use, I had to rip into 2ft x 8ft sections. I didn't have any veneer tear outs and didn't run across any laminate voids. The sheet had no bows or dips (very flat) and the factory edges were very square. However, I was disappointed in the quality of the Birch grain veneer, as the solid thin sheet has very little "typical character" of other birch products I've used in the past. Also, I'd really have preferred a full .750" overall thickness (not .705) which a veneer thickness of 1\16" could have accomplished, additionally creating "real world" wood finishing stability for carpenters! With these issues, I do not have faith I can get a quality project complete. Till these product quality standards improve, I'll pay much more from other manufactures to get a sheet finish that I can reliably work with and one that I know will last!

I have been a union carpenter for 30 years and I was happy to see a greener alternative for plywood. I do most of my work for hospitals and my clients spec greener alternatives. I decided to try these first for my house because my wife has a terrible reaction to anything with formaldehyde in it. I needed 8 sheets of this product for doors I was making. I had to sort through the entire stack at the store, which took an hour, to find sheets that weren’t delaminated. Almost the entire pallet was unusable. I thought I had found 8 good sheets. But when I started working with them, they began delaminating, as well. I ended up fixing them myself with my own formaldehyde free glue and clamps. The result is plywood that was only paint grade. They were not clear enough to stain (see my photo). Like I said, I wanted to like this product, the market needs more products like this...unfortunately, this time it didn’t pay off.

Glue failed (sheet split between and through some interior layers) through about 40% of sheet when cut in store. I needed at least that much for my project. When I further cut the more sound portions there was additional splitting and I had to do quite a bit of additional gluing in order to complete my project. In addition I discovered that the sanded A side was so thin and poorly glued that it was impossible to cut or bore through without flaking up the edges of the cut.. The salesman at the store (who accompanied me to the in store cutting operation) offered to discount the original price by 50% and I accepted his offer. I will not purchase any more of this product because it quality is not up the standards of Home Depot that I am familiar with.
