Questions & Answers

Does this stove require fresh air to be piped in from the outside?

Asked by: Joseph
Not required, a carbon monoxide detector would be a good idea. I did not have the outside air connected on my stove. If your home is not air tight or you can crack a window if it is will be fine. Eventually Im going to connect to outside air.

When the stove is cool, pull/push the chrome knob 2-5 times to remove any carbon build up from the heat exchanger tubes. Refer to manual for frequency.

I like this style over the HP22 bay window. The single pane is larger for better viewing of the fire. The HP22 and HP61 are very similar with the main difference being the door style. The stove was easy to set up, though you might want to take time to adjust the operational settings. The remote control makes operating very convenient , I like that you have a thermostat setting, timed on/off and weekly auto on/off. The stove is well thought out, the side panels open to reveal a spacious motor compartment. Everything is easy to get too, no pulling 2 or 3 pieces to reach the igniter. Its right there, easily accessible. Comfortbilt is one of the few if not only manufacturer using an ash pan. This feature is fantastic and only requires emptying every week or 2. Cleaning is simplified to, during the burn season, you only have to use a brush to clean the inside of the stove, sending ashes into the pan and done.

Had I realized that in the 'Temperature' mode, it doesn't shut off, just idles on low, until more heat is needed-thus burning pellets unnecessarily, I would have gone with a different stove. Also, not too pleased that the hopper doesn't 'empty'- pellets are pulled from the center and several pounds stay on the sides. Hopper is still a quarter full and the stove shuts off due to lack of pellets. I wish this information was in the Description/Specifications of this model.

The auto start feature is awesome, our old one was a manual start. The hopper door could be a bit bigger but we just don't cut the bag open as much to accommodate the size of the door.

I am lucky to not have the thing shut off in 12 hours due to pellets staying on the side but i would only say that is 5-8 pounds of pellets are left when it goes out. It goes through a bag (40 pounds) on low in about 12-14 hours. Wish I knew that I may have gone with something with a larger hopper that way I do not have to worry about it for 24 hours. I do not see any hopper extenders for this model either. Saw a couple people have built their own and thinking about going that route.
