Q:I currently have the Commercial Electric Model 2136 puck lights, used with kit #21363. These look like the exact same lights. I'm looking to replace them. Will these work?

Answer This Question

A:  Thanks for the question. The new puck lights will work and are a good replacement for the old kit. All of the old components, wires, puck and hardware need to be removed before installation of the new puck light kit. None of the components from the old kit is compatible with the new kit.

by|Feb 7, 2022

A:  Yes they will. Hardest part is hiding the wires.

A:  Thanks for the question. The puck lights are fastened to the cabinet using a mounting ring and screws. Puck light snaps into the mounting ring. The instruction is available on Home Depot.com for additional product information and installation.

                      Should have spent more money!
The install of a puck light should not be so difficult! The light to light connector cords are barely long enough to make it to the next cabinet. You are forced to install 12-15” apart. The cord that plugs into the electric outlet is so long that you can’t tack all of it up! The pins to hold up the the cords are so small that you can’t hit the tiny nail without hitting your finger first. To attach the lights themselves, we attempted Velcro, but that won’t work because the back of the puck is recessed into the rim. Both my husband and I were so frustrated we both walked away after putting up just 2 lights. A competitor carried a different brand for $15 more. Wish I would have spent the extra money.

                        MISLEADING AD AND LOW QUALITY
First of all, I NEVER write reviews. These lights inspired me. I was happy to find these LED lights in stock to replace halogen puck lights for my client. Picked them up and the misery began as soon as I opened the package. Description says flush or recessed mount which is somewhat true. The lights are designed to be daisy chained. Unfortunately the engineers decided to make the receptacle for connecting the lights on the SIDE of the light, which the picture on the website does not show. Not sure how they intend the lowly installer to recess a light with a plug sticking out the side of the light. Consequently I had to flush mount. I ran the wiring and found the cord length for each light to be barely long enough to hit my existing holes from the previous lighting which was less than 18". Kill me! More problems came when i tried to pop the light into the mounting bracket and the plastic tabs wouldn't hold the light in place. One tab broke off and I had to use adhesive to hold it and every other light in place. I left the job unhappy with the product other than the fact that the lights worked. I wish the engineers were smarter and HD was more accurate with the product description/photo. Thanks guys!

Great lighting as long as they work
Like many others reviewing these lights, I have only had mine installed about 2 1/2 years and the first one just started blinking. I had originally intended to put a "skin" of plywood on the bottoms of the cabinets to cover the wiring but am glad I didn't; it would have been harder to replace them if I had. The lighting is wonderful when they are working but they don't last as long as advertised. They are supposed to have a 5 year manufacturer's warranty but I don't want to have to dig through my receipts to prove when I bought them, then take them to the store and swap them out. Too much hassle and I'm sure they bank on that when they offer the warranty. So I guess I will buy 5 more and have them ready when the next ones fail.

Yes they will work off a standard in stock wall dimmer, i just picked one in stock. Bracket to hold under cabinet is good if you have little fingers to hold those really small screws. The screws will come up thru cabinets so be careful, i used a washer to prevent it. They connect together but i found the wires (2ft long) to be too short so I ended up extending the wires with a white extension cord. Easy to do. They were the only "puck" design and 120v that I could find and I'm glad I did. i also might add a light to above the cabinet, pic shows it really bright but in person it doesn't look like that. Its all 120v so you can connect and extend them easy. enjoy

These lights are real nice and look great under the counter. But BEWARE....they don't last as long as LED lights should. I put twelve(12) of these lights in my kitchen and they are lit roughly 3 hours per day (they are on a dimmer so not full power). The initial 12 were installed just shy of three years ago. Since installation I have had to replace three of the lights and a fourth is failing awaiting to be replaced. Unfortunately you have to buy a "three pack" as you cannot purchase singles. So when you read "Lasts 45 years or 50,000 hours of continuous use." DO NOT BELIEVE IT! My lights were professionally installed and even the installer told me to expect failures. Home Depot was pretty good about replacing my first failure, but I had to buy a pack of three, take them home, replace the one that went bad and then bring the pack of three (1 bad 2 good) back to the store and get a refund for the pack of three. Pretty big pain making two trips to Home Depot for a light that is supposed to last 45 years! The last failure I did not even bother with the return. I just bought the 3 pack knowing that I would need them sooner rather than later. So I'm eating the $50 bucks....but I do not have the cycles for trips back and forth to the Home Depot. Bottom line is the lights are real nice and when they work they are great. But make sure you understand the stated "45 year/50,000 hour warranty" is laughable and expect failures.

I originally had the brown ones installed last year to match dark espresso cabinets. This month I decided to paint them white (that was fun lol) and purchased the white lights. The quality is superb and light output is bright. They're not white nor warm, somewhere in between. My husband spent hours splicing and connecting the wires because we used two kits and 1 light switch (dimmer) plus ran wires through the cabinet interior in some places. He was able to connect the wire to the other one that was originally connected to an ugly fluorescent fixture over the sink. I added wire covers to improve aesthetics.

I was able to install from start to finish in 1 hour. Very bright. A little tricky at first figuring out the mount. Doable with 1 person, would have been nice to have 3rd hand.
