Very sharp and stable but it feels like the blades will get blunt in no time and also most wires have already started sliding through the blades. But it is still a wonderful tool

Intended specifically for cutting small diameter (RG-59 and RG-6) 75 ohm coaxial cables, these cutters use a bypass type cutting action to minimize distortion of the cable being cut. Manufacturer’s specs indicate that it can be used for copper clad steel coax, though for the purposes of this evaluation only copper and foil shield cable was available. At approximately 7 ½ inches long, and provided with dual layer comfort grips, the tool falls readily to hand to perform its function. There was some stiffness in the pivot point (which may “break in” with more use) which would be less of an issue for typical homeowner use. It would be more bothersome in constant use in a commercial environment. Due to the notched configuration of both jaws, it is possible to easily use these to circumferentially slit the coax jacket to permit removal, if some care is exercised. The cutters are NOT spring loaded which requires some manipulation to open the jaws in preparation for the next cut. Again, not an issue for homeowner use…but tiresome for constant use. These would be an adequate cutter for the homeowner or for an electrician who occasionally has to terminate coaxial cables.

These cutters are standard cable cutters, made in China. The metal is somewhat rough, with machining marks and an unfinished appearance and feel. They work well enough, cutting coax with ease. I'm dubious about how long they will last. If you've never seen an old American made pair of cutters, with their fine finish, you might not even notice or care how these look. With little in the way of options available, these cutters should be fine for occasional use.

Great value in a coaxial cable cutter. These have a nicely designed set of jaws that keep the coax captive in the cutter and also minimize deformation of the dielectric. They will easily handle RG58, RG59, RG6, RG11 and RG8 to name a few. My pictures show cutting a piece of RG11 coax. RG11 is just under 1/2" in diameter. After the cut you can see there is minimal squashing of the foam dielectric insulation. Good cuters if you prep your own coax!

Totally pleased with the quality and construction of these new Coaxial Wire cutters. The weight is perfect, and they are very well made for long-lasting durability. Really a great value at under $10.00. My sister needed to borrow a pair of wire cutters, so I will pick up an additional pair on my next visit to Home Depot. They open wide enough so that you can cut pieces of copper wire in excess of 1/2 inch. I placed a large felt marking pen in the cutting blades to test the size. I also placed the open blade half way up my pinky finger, again to gauge the spread of the cutting blades. Very impressive, and even easier to use on real pieces of wire that I experimented with.
