It's a hard wired fixture with several knockouts for cable entry. It requires an external switch.

I was going to put 2 of these on my kitchen ceiling to replace 2 single bulb florescent lights. Do you think they would give off too much light since they aren't dimmable?

Good choice to upgrade to this LED strip from an older fluorescent or incandescent. You will be very pleased with the increased brightness. It is easily 3-4 times as bright. I've installed countless LED and non-LED fixtures in my time, and these are among the easiest to put up. The light/lens assembly clips onto the metal housing and looks good. My only 'complaint' is the connector supplied for the hot and neutral leads is supposed to be a quick-connect (push-in) but it doesn't always hold the wire ends securely. So, be very careful when inserting your wire ends that the connector grabs them as it should. That being said, this is a nice standard LED strip for any application. Also, to answer the novice installer questions, be aware this is a hard-wired (direct-wire) light, no wall plug included (although you could buy one separately and wire it in if you want it to plug into an outlet). It does not have its own switch, so you will need to connect it to a circuit that is already controlled with a wall switch.

I don't write a lot of reviews, but I appreciate the military discount Home Depot offers and am really impressed with the quality of this product, so wanted to share my thoughts. I used 2 of these to replace an 8 foot fluorescent and couldn't be happier with the quality of the product and appearance. I was able to link two of these together by wiring internally and still mount directly over the electrical box and looks very professional in appearance. I love that there are plenty of knockouts and enough space inside for wiring flexibility. The 4000K light is perfect...not too white (cold), and not too yellow (soft). These small and lightweight lights are as bright as the fluorescents, are instant-on with no warm up period (like the problem with the fluorescents), and will last a long time without bulbs to replace. I had bought another 8 foot led light from another retailer which was much less quality and too white and have since returned it. I'm much more satisfied with these 2 four footers linked together.

One version has a ground wire with a bullet connector between the two halves and an orange 2-pin connector for hot/neutral. You do not want this version. The connector provided for hot/neutral accepts 18-22 gauge solid wire. Nobody has 18-22 gauge in a ceiling box. 16-gauge will work ok if you force it, but 14 won't fit. The _other_ version is the one you want: it doesn't have a green ground wire between the two halves: there's a "claw clip" on one half that bites through the paint on the other half to provide ground. This version has individual push-in connectors on each of the hot and neutral wires, and these connectors are sized appropriately for house wiring.

Bought three for under kitchen cabinets lighting replaceing 11 year old fluorescents. They are about half the price of the GE low profile lights. These are 3" in heighth which are slightly noticeable below the cabinet molding while seated but not while standing. They produce more than enough light that I took another person's suggestion and placed one strip of masking tape along the top edge of the cover. These lights are not dimmable. The one strip of masking did the trick giving a more diffused light for the counter tops as well as reducing the brightness of the light while seated at the kitchen table. The masking is hardly noteable and looks like a built in shade for the light.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A better shop light, for sure I was surprised to see that it used 40 watts (a bit high for an LED these days) but, this fixture puts a decent amount of light; possibly more than my old 2 bulb fluorescent. The light appears to be a similar color to fluorescent (it is right at 4000k, starting to get into the bright white range). The diffuser is perfectly matched to the light, casting very little shadow. Fit and finish are good. Directions are simple and easy. The minimum mounting hardware (two screws and wall anchors) are included. Installation is no different than any other permanent-mount light fixture. The package says they will start at -40F (sorry, I couldn't test that) Pros: No transformer hum. No crackling of lights 'trying' to warm up or turn on. No fiddling with bulbs, trying to figure out which is good and which is a bad connection. Cons: I couldn't find a "strip gauge" marking on the wire connector, to show how much insulation to strip off, so I had to guess (I'm sure a professional would have known).

One of the flourescent lights in my garage had burned out and I originally went in looking for a replacement. I was looking at LED replacements but was confused by the options. A store employee pointed out that I could replace the entire fixture with a LED strip that was brighter and would last longer. I took his advice and replaced the old flourescent lights with the LED strip in about 45 minutes. Works great and this single strip is much brighter than the flourescent lights, plus I'll never have to deal with the glass lights again.

I say this because the main body is metal and you don't want to have it cut through the wire so a rubber grommet will do the trick or a romex connector your choice. the light part and cover are very flimsy to me, they could have done better but it is what it is. and it works great. OH!! heres an idea!! I put a switch in line on the wire to turn it off and on ( beats plugging and unplugging it )

They are listed as 50K hours with a five year warranty, but realistically they seem to only last 25 - 35K hours +/- . That's still a long time, but with an LED fixture, one has to replace the entire fixture when it fails, not just change a light. I purchased 12 fixtures for my shop about 4 yrs ago. 6 initially and another 6 about 5-6 months later. All but 3 have failed. The lights first start to blink until they are turned off and then back on. After a while, even power cycling will not stop the blinking. Realistically the lights in the shop are on 16 - 18 hrs a day, (Mon - Sat.) but calculate, 16hrs x 365days x 4yrs = 23,360 hrs. / 18 x 365 x 4 = 26,280. Sundays are usually dark, but there are some days the lights will be on longer and 4 yrs is an average. Some fixtures lasted a little longer, a couple may not have made even 4 yrs. It is my fault I cannot find my receipt, so I couldn't get them replaced under warranty. However I called support to see if I could purchase new driver / power supplies as the LED lens was still fine on all of them. Unfortunately, the driver It isn't available to repair the fixture. I just hate having had to pull the fixtures down and junk them. More proof we are in a disposable society..... I wish they had a better life span. I liked the way they looked. I liked the light output. I like how the lens detached so the base could be installed. The LED driver needs to be redesigned to be a little more robust, but that would likely add to the cost.
