Not sure! Depends if it will be fed from a surge protected ckt in the breaker box. By itself, no.

The flat panel tv cable organizer does not have a fuse. You are having other electrical issues that need the attention of an electrician. You might want to uninstall the box to make sure it is wired correctly. Black to black, white to white and copper to ground. Sounds like an overloaded circuit.

There is no reason this type of installation is not possible. Set your template where you will make your cuts. Remember: measure twice for accuracy.

You're right - the spec is either misleading or incorrect. Both top and bottom units easily fit in a standard 3.5 wall cavity you would get with 2x4 stud construction.

Is it ok to plug a surge protector into the outlets?

The organizer kit is not hardwired. It works basically as an extension cord. If you are experiencing electrical surges you should have a certified electrician inspect your electrical service.

Average. That's the short review. The long review is the orientation of the plugs is why I chose this kit over others given my TV has a right angle plug. The upper box is larger than I expected, but will of course still get hidden behind the TV. The lower box is where the rating dropped. The extra little box on the back is at the wrong angle to be attached and then inserted along with the lower box unless you make the wall opening larger than the lower box will cover. I had to improvise and instead use electrical tape completely around the connections. Because the extra little box was already on the electrical line and the wires were already inserted into the connection and not removable without cutting, I just slid the box down the line so it just sits there unattached in the wall as I didn't want to recut the wiring and get different connectors. Not too sure about the durability of the rotating plug on the external power cord. I like the flat cord design making it easier to hide. I guess as long as the cord is not rotated so much, the wear issue may not occur. I think though given I've seen issues with other products that use a similar cord with rotating plug, I will get another cord that will fit and reduce the potential for a short and fire. Lastly, the finish is not as white as in the product photos. It's a little off-white, maybe close to alabaster.

We moved a 56" pedestal flat panel to a wall mount and needed to make sure we had no unsightly cables or conduits running down the wall to the audio/video gear. We researched a number of options and found this Commercial Electric unit. It's a well engineered, thoroughly thought through product that greatly simplifies the steps and parts needed to hide the many cables needed to allow a flat panel TV to support all of our video inputs. Install could not be simpler. Supplied templates for making the wall cutouts were great. The old work boxes worked very well and held the box tight with no movement. Hooking up the 14/2 Romex power wire was a breeze. The top outlet is prewired and the bottom has the great push-in connectors you find in modern recessed can lights. One note on these connectors: Once you push the wire in, it's there to stay as it cannot be pulled out. The 8' Romex was more than enough needed for our install. We did not have to deal with any firestops, fortunately, so it was a piece of cake to fish the cables behind the wall. We used 3 HDMI cables and 1 standard audio cable and had plenty of room for more. The boxes are removable if you want to add more or different cables later. The install took less than an hour and looks very professional. Highly recommend this unit.

Overall this is a nice kit. I had to drill through a 2x4 brace half way down the wall, so my advice is to check the wall with a stud finder and be sure you don't have any cross bracing in the wall space. I was able to use some extensions and a hole saw to get through, but it definitely made things more complicated. The boxes are set up nicely making the install fairly easy. I would suggest you get the one that has 2 outlets on the top, that way you can plug in your sound bar and mount it below the tv making for a real tidy install. Unlike some others, these have METAL tabs on the lock down screws so they're much stronger and can be reinstalled if you mess something up. The cheaper ones are plastic and prone to breaking. I was able to run 3 HDMI and 1 coax cable no problem. I also left a scrap piece of speaker wire threaded all the way through, that way if you need to add a cable later you can simply tape it to the speaker wire and pull it through.

Got this kit after mounting tv to wall. This kit is very simple and easy to install. If you have a power tool vs drywall saw it makes it much faster. Looks very good. Nice to have compliant install that puts power outlet behind the tv. So simple even I installed.
