I used a 3/16th bit rather than 5/32 and it was still tight. You really can't use a Phillips to screw it in, you need to use a socket wrench and then easy.
I'd use something like this to extend the mounting base. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-1-1-2-in-x-14-Gauge-x-36-in-Zinc-Plated-Slotted-Angle-802407/204225759
Yes
Mountability all depends upon what the mount is anchored to behind any wall finish be it drywall, plaster, tile or ...
Yes
If your tv is heavy i would not rely on an anchor. If you are willing to risk it and the tv is not heavy then some anchors are rated really heavy weights. It completely up to you. The company would tell you no so they are not held liable which is understanable. Some tv's today are pretty lightweight. My 50" is 7 years old and weighs a ton from old flat panel technology so I would never do that. You just have to use your best judgement.
A good trick is to place the correct size drill bit against the mounting bolts (drill tip to the bottom of thebolt head) and wrap a piece of electrical tape around the drill bit. When you drill into the stud stop the drill when the tape touches the drywall or plaster. You now have the perfect depth to mount your unit. The hole can be slightly deeper, but don't use a bit that could go thru the stud.
I would use a mount for a 55 inch TV. There is a mount made by the same manufacturer for that size, in both a tilt and fixed version. I've used both and they work well.
The instructions mention the tilt lock. While turning the a handle on the tilt lock, you'll first only be able to turn a little before the handle meets the frame, Pull the handle away from the frame and you'll be able to bring it back to the original position and the turn again to make it tighter. Check the instructions.
There should be leveling screws on the mounting bracket
