Questions & Answers

Does this product contain Quinclorac to kill crabgrass?

Asked by: danel1962
Crabgrass is NOT a broadleaf weed, but is considered a 'grassy weed". Lawn turf grasses and crabgrass fall into a category called "monocots" and broadleaf weeds are called "dicots". The 2,4-D is effective on dicots.

Does 2,4 D kill orchard grass and Yellow Nutsedge without killing the other grass (Kentucky 31 Fescue in my case) in your lawn?

Asked by: Mike
The BEST Thing I used to kill nutsedge was "Sedge Ender", a yellow goop concentrate that can be mixed in a 1 gallon pump sprayer. What I did was let me lawn get over grown to easily identify the problem areas and then targeted those areas. Note: If there is no lawn and you kill all the weeds, you will be left with no "lawn". This isnt the weed killer problem, it just happens that grass weeds like nutsedge kills off grass over time so when you kill the weed, you're left with dirt.

Will it kill the grass ?

Asked by: Bill
I bought 2-4-D and another chemical from ACE a while back to kill dollar weed. I mixed as per instructions and sprayed it on dollar weed. It killed dollar weed and the grass. The guy at the store told me to just spray it lightly on dollar weed; maybe I sprayed too much but it killed everything around where I sprayed it.

I finally figured out that it took 3 ounces per gallon for white clover. I sprayed a week ago and again today. The clover blossoms of last week had turned brown and some of the leaves were turning brown. I think in time the rest will follow. Where the clover was thick I'll need to plant grass next year but with most of the clover gone I should be able to pick it out of the lawn by hand which I have done before on small areas in front of the house. The price was excellent and it seems it can only be obtained by special order. Home Depot did an excellent job of providing the product on a timely basis.

So either I am not using the proper dose of this product or this product is just like any other and useless. Does anyone know what is the proper oz to water mix for this product for lawn weed control?, there is nothing on the booklet that came with it.

This is an economical product that works fairly well on our South Florida lawn when used in the warm growing season. I have better results using a spreader/sticker additive to the spray. I use it at the recommended rate and find that it takes a week or two or more to really kill a Florida broad leaf weed.

However, labeling warns against use on vegetable gardens and recommends grass seed not be planted until several months after this product is applied. It must be very toxic.
