Is this safe to use on zoysia grass?

Label - https://raganandmassey.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/228-145-84009_32oz.pdf My favorite lawn care site - https://www.lawn-care-academy.com/zoysia.html This site says to wait 7-10 days after your Zoysia starts to green up after winter dormancy because in that re-emerging stage, 2, 4D can harm it. Otherwise, 2, 4D won't hurt Zoysia if applied per label instructions. I've seen reports saying that going from 1.5 to 2.5 modes of application (multiple types of weed killers with different classifications, treating the same type of weeds) can give a massive improvement to killing weeds. Something like 85 to 95 times more effective. This is very important because if you treat weeds and they do not die, you end up with herbicide resistant weeds - that which doesn't kill you makes you stronger applies to weeds and weed killers. I mixed this on my new Zoysia lawn last year with Quinclorac and did a follow up application 2-3 weeks later and it knocked out tons of weeds (even sedge, which isn't on either label), and Quinclorac does great for crabgrass, which 2, 4D will not hurt as crabgrass isn't a broadleaf weed. I was going to do another application today but I like to read labels and I'm glad I did because my Zoysia lawn just started to green up this week, so if I'd sprayed, I likely would have hurt my grass. I'll just mow and come back in a couple of weeks and treat my Zoysia then. Weather delayed me putting down my Zoysia seed last year and my Zoysia wasn't established enough when it went dormant, so it wasn't safe to put down a pre-emergent so I had a lot of cool season weeds pop up in my lawn while my Zoysia was dormant.

Will it kill the grass ?

I mixed this at 1 oz. per gallon.....spot sprayed dandelions in my Bermuda lawn and it turned the area around each dandelion brown about the size of a cantaloupe.......... It does kill the dandelions but didn't spare my grass at each application.......I have a resilient stand of Bermuda, but from now on maybe just a 1/4 to 1/2 ounce per gallon of water.

How much per gallon of water?

Really had a difficult time trying to figure this out. I used a 23 gallon pull behind sprayer and put in 28 oz. I figured about 1.5 oz per gallon. I sprayed approx 2 acres with this configuration but wonder if i put enough. Weeds are not dying out as quickly as I hoped. It's been 3 weeks since I sprayed and the weeds are dying out (but not like roundup when you spray they are dead within a day or two). Hope this helps.

Does this product contain Quinclorac to kill crabgrass?

Asked by danel1962 June 27, 2015

Crabgrass is NOT a broadleaf weed, but is considered a 'grassy weed". Lawn turf grasses and crabgrass fall into a category called "monocots" and broadleaf weeds are called "dicots". The 2,4-D is effective on dicots.

Can I use it around bugleweed/Ajuga to remove other weeds and what ratio ?

Use 1 gallon of water mixed with 2 tablespoons of 2,4-D weed killer to cover 1,000 square feet of lawn. spot treat only. very powerful. this will kill every thing if mixed to strong.

Does 2,4 D kill orchard grass and Yellow Nutsedge without killing the other grass (Kentucky 31 Fescue in my case) in your lawn?

Asked by Mike April 30, 2015

Answers

The BEST Thing I used to kill nutsedge was "Sedge Ender", a yellow goop concentrate that can be mixed in a 1 gallon pump sprayer. What I did was let me lawn get over grown to easily identify the problem areas and then targeted those areas. Note: If there is no lawn and you kill all the weeds, you will be left with no "lawn". This isnt the weed killer problem, it just happens that grass weeds like nutsedge kills off grass over time so when you kill the weed, you're left with dirt.

How often can I apply?

Asked by Katie May 10, 2020

Katie, it depends on how strong you apply the herbicide. Some people put this down at half strength and if you do that you typically do the second half the split application 10-14 days later. Off the top of my head, if you full strength (meaning diluted to the strength per level instructions, I think you can apply every 30 days, but read the label to be sure. If the full label is not on this website, you can find it in DoMyOwn dot com and they have this same product and have the full label there as a PDF. Download it and keep it handy. Another herbicide I like to mix with this is Quincloric. It is another broadleaf herbicide that is also good at killing crabgrass. Use a non-ionic surfactant to add cling so you get more herbicide on the leafy part to absorb into the plant versus rubbing onto the ground. I also recommend a turf marking dye do you do not skip spots by mistake.

2, 4 D BROADLEAF WEED CONTROL is a great product when used as directed. I applied it twice one week apart and it really did the job. The weeds in my yard where impossible to control, but now 2,4 D is the only product I'll use.
