Questions & Answers

Does Home Depot cut lumber to size (e.g., cut 2x12x12 pressure treated into two six fot long 2x12 boards)? And if so, how much does it cost?

Asked by: Dennis
The local HD near me has a machine for cutting ply-type panels and another machine that can cut boards/lumber that's not thicker than about 4". It's a big blade that does a "rip"/rough cut and it can be difficult to find an associate free to use it though. Also, two cuts are free for each piece but everything above that they they'll charge 25 cents a cut.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from HD staff does not do a good job of scrapping... HD staff does not do a good job of scrapping warped, cupped, split boards left after they have been picked over. If the rack is nearly empty, you'll need to request a new unit of material, which could take 1/2 hour or so. Rule of thumb: always shop lumber from a fresh unit, or you'll get stuck.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from It was pretty difficult to find a board that was... It was pretty difficult to find a board that was straight, not cupped and not split. Maybe that’s normal for a 2x12” but I thought it was really annoying to dig through a dozen 12’ boards to find 2 good ones.
