I bought three of these Coolaroo spring loaded retractable shades four years ago at home depot. They worked fine when I bought them - I bought them for privacy from my neighbor's above ground pool. For the last three years, the neighbors haven't used the pool so the shades were retracted hanging on the patio. The other day I went to pull them down and two of the three won't pull up again. One actually fell apart as the fabric fell off the roller. I have to toss them...

Won't last you too long
It won't last you too long, but good for the meantime. It's really thin but I needed it to protect my tankless from the sunlight(even though its outdoors, i prefer less sun) It's at the sideyard that no one goes to and won't be rolled up often at all. Needed it for the UV rays but may look for something else next time. Very easy to install if you know how to use a drill

These sunshades were easy to install, and have worked great so far.
I have a 24x24 attached enclosed porch off the back of my house. The west wall gets a lot of afternoon sun, and has (3) 8'x3' windows on the upper part of the wall. I installed these on the outside of the wall, just above the windows. I like that they are easy to install, and should be easy to remove and store inside during the winter, to (hopefully) preserve them. The 90% UV block is great, and will hopefully prevent the carpet and furniture in my porch from aging prematurely.
The height is adjustable, so I can pull them down just enough to cover the 3' window. I haven't had these down in windy conditions yet, but I'm hoping that they won't self-retract, as others have described. I think hanging it on the side of a window, vs suspended in a pergola makes a big difference in the movement of the shade. I have some Coolaroo fabric stapled to frames that I made myself for some west-facing house windows, and they tend to flap in the breeze. Though, they regularly hang 2' away from the house windows.
I plan to buy more of these for other windows on my porch (particularly on the south side) to keep the sun out and hopefully keep the porch cooler.

Does not retract
Purchased 3 shades 9 months ago. Pulled the two 72 inch ones down around 20 times. Loved them at first, but now they do not retract. Instructions say nothing about how to fix this problem.

Which I didn't think of that when I bought it. It Also was much cheaper to buy in the store. Tried to do the pick up and was marked $30.00 higher.

Other than a lack of instructions with installation measurements and very little leeway in positioning brackets it is a very nice shade. The adjustable return rate is very nice. It would be nice to have a grommeted hole to attach a cord for high porch mounting.
