Sensi Smart Thermostat, Wi-Fi 7-day Programmable No C-Wire Required for Most Systems

This thermostat was easy to install and easy to use the app. I was having trouble with my old thermostat having a faulty reader. Other professionals recommended a huge overhaul of my ducts to fix problem. After installing the issue resolved itself. No added subscription fees.

I am very satisfied with my Sensi Smart Thermostat. The installation process was quick and easy, and it has worked perfectly since day one. The app is very user-friendly, and I love being able to control the temperature from my phone anytime. The system keeps my home comfortable at all times, and I have noticed better energy efficiency with my air conditioning. In addition, the thermostat has a modern and elegant design that looks great on the wall. I would definitely recommend Sensi to anyone looking for a reliable and easy-to-use smart thermostat.

These are the perfect connected thermostats but I think many people have a misunderstanding of how the "no C wire" function works and when you need an extra wire or Fast Stat Common Maker. Also, the settings on the unit are key to the device staying on wifi. First of all, these thermostats use "power stealing" technology that take small amounts of electricity from your heating and cooling circuit to power the thermostat enough to use the smart features like connecting to wifi. This only happens when the thermostat is not calling for heat or cold. It charges a capacitor in the thermostat to keep the wifi alive when heat is being called for. That is why you can sometimes have dropped wifi in the beginning if you have a heat only system, until things stabilize a bit. Here's the caveats.. Sensi states that you don't need a C wire if you have a heating and cooling system, because it needs to draw enough power from each to power the thermostat. If you set it to heat only, you will most likely have dropped wifi and a message after a few hours saying to add a C wire. You can trick it by saying you have a heating and cooling system and the message will go away but it will probably drop off wifi during periods where the thermostat is calling for heat often. These settings can only be changed on the unit itself and the instructions are in the manual online. Otherwise, the setup wizard in the app automatically sets what heating type you have during the initial setup. If you have an un-used wire, then you could hook it up to a common and power it that way. But the easiest option by far is to just get a Fast Stat Common Maker. It is a very simple device that you hook up per the directions and through black magic, it powers the thermostat through just the two red and white wires. Overall, these are the best connected thermostats that I could find and they can function completely independent of the app if needed. But it's so much more convenient to setup heating schedules in the app which is why I bought them in the first place. They don't "learn" your heating habits like other smart thermostats but I really don't think that's needed.

I bought this a month ago and I am very well pleased

The Sensi Smart Thermostats ST-55 work very well. I have 5 of them and use the Sensi app to control and program them. One of them had incorrect readings of the current room temperature so I replaced it since Home Depot had it on sale at a great price and next-day delivery. Sensi support is helpful if you have any questions.

We have two of these, one at home and one at the lake. Both have heat pumps with propane as the aux heat. When we first got them 5 years ago, we were able to slowly increase the temps(one degree at a time) without the aux heat being used. Also, when it was cold enough to need propane, the usage chart would show how long the aux heat was used as opposed to the heat pump. It no longer does that. If you were trying to geogrid and lower temps while you are away, you would be using propane all the time. Long story short, it doesn't work well with a dual fuel heat pump.
