I've never had a green thumb nor did I ever love real plants but recently I've taken liking to the fiddle leaf plant. So, I just ordered one to get started and my question is which soil is best and do I need to repot this soon? I have hardwood floors? Don't want to ruin them.... Any suggestions on good nice pots?
Asked by: Trac
Trac, You don't need to replant right away, however if you choose to replant just use a good potting soil and your plant should be just fine.

The plant came timely-week before Christmas. But as soon as I took it out of the box-I noticed the dark green leaves. It did not have the vibrant green leaves as pictured. The leaves got darker day by day. On the third day, I noticed white spots and the leaves were beginning to crumble. My plant became a "Charlie Brown" tree within 1 week. I searched the internet to detemine how to care for this plant. And, I found out that the white spots are some type of fungus. I took the plant out of the pot and shook and rinsed the roots. Then I put it back in a pot. All that is left are branches and no leaves. Everyone told me to ask for a refund. But, I am going to try to bring this plant back to life. I have pictures of the white spots but I could not figure out how to add pics from my gallery. I attached a picture of the plant as of today.

My fig came about a month ago, packed well and it looked great right out of the box. Watered it right away and put it in a south facing window with filtered sunlight and within a week and I was already seeing new leaves! Watered it again 2 weeks after getting it and it looks like I'm getting a second pair of leaves! So excited! I water it pretty heavily, but wait for the soil to feel dry at least 3 inches from the surface. I've heard it can even be a good idea to wait for the top leaves to start to wilt a little before watering. I have it in the pot it came in, sitting on a layer of rocks inside another container so that the plant is not sitting in standing water. So far it seems to be working. I love it and am really hoping I can keep it alive for the long haul. Fiddle leaf figs are not cheap (this is the best deal I've found), so once it's a little bigger I'm hoping to try and propagate some new baby figs from the leaves and maybe separate the two plants that are in the pot into two separate pots.

The plant was shipped from FL, yet it arrived green and strong, unaffected by the long 5 days travel to NYC - it even looks better than the HD store plants! I hope this plant will grow into a gorgeous fiddleleaf fig tree. It's been almost a month since it's shipment. I water it twice a week, and it seems to be adapting well with filtered light from the kitchen window. I didn't want to shock it, so to date, I haven't re-pot it, which I am looking to do very soon. I read that the fiddle fig plant takes time adjusting into new surroundings and requires lots of TLC. I've been cleaning the leaves every week with a wet paper towel, keeping the soil moist with every 3-4 days, and it seems to be working. I plan on buying another one to reshape as a tree once it grows and the bark/stem grows thicker (to remove lower leaves). Very happy with this purchase.
