I am in Florida. Can this tree be planted outdoors?
Asked by: CJ
Hi CJ! Majesty palm can be used outdoors on shaded decks, patios, and balconies. as a summer tropical. However, because we grow majesty palms in low-light conditions to ensure they thrive as houseplants, they shouldn't be placed outdoors in hot, sunny situations. We hope this helps!

Can this remain outdoors year round?

Asked by: Tiny
If it goes below 55 degrees in your area, it must be brought in. Feed it a systemic insect repellent a couple weeks before you bring it indoors, and spray the entire plant with water before bringing it inside. This way you don't bring any insects in with it. They need very little care, some sun and they will be ready to be placed outdoors again in the warm Spring weather.

Can you pot outside? We live in NORTHERN CALIFORNIA, thanks

Asked by: Plantlady
Hi Plantlady! We recommend keeping the Majesty Palm in a container and placing it out doors for the summer. Once the weather begins to cool, it is best to bring the plants indoors for the winter. We hope this helps!

Customer Reviews

Majesty Palm in 9.25 in. Grower Pot is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 67.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Gorgeous but very big mistake buying online I bought two of these palms online and they came rather quickly. They look very beautiful to look at but the disaster game days after, realizing that the plants were severely infested with spider mites. Repotted them with Miracle Gro, another disaster, Miracle Gro is horrible. The plants require more water than suggested, which is OK. But they are very prone to spider mites and I am pretty sure whichever farm, or nursery these are coming from is very infested and they don’t care what they ship, as long as they are getting their money. I don’t really blame Home Depot. More so the nursery farm the plants are coming from. Called customer service, the nursery was supposed to call me back, it’s been 11 days now. No communication. Delray Plants Is the name of the nursery, definitely avoid them completely. Will be returning these unfortunately. And buying from a local nursery, even if they have to import or order it from somewhere else that takes horticulture seriously.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent We bought 2 of them to add a little color to our living area! These trees were gorgeous and although my first Palms I decided they were worth a chance... brought them in and for 2 weeks they were great and then last week they started to droop and no matter watering they just didn't seem to get enough... so this weekend I bought new pots 16" and transplanted them Sunday evening and yesterday (Monday) when I got home they were perky and standing straight up again! To those that claim the tree is dying because they bought it from HD need to realize that the 10" pots they come with are merely TEMPORARY potters they need and SHOULD be changed within a week of purchasing the plant... rule of thump for TREES the roots are TWICE as long as the tree is tall (if your tree is 5 ft tall the roots will be nearly 10 ft long) they become root bound very quickly! I love my palms and the NEW pots they are housed in.

I purchased one of these in-store, and despite reading a lot of online discussions about it being impractical to keep as a houseplant I'm happy to say that mine has been doing well for the past five months. It's entirely feasible to keep inside as long as you're willing to do a little bit of research about its specific needs, ie. lots of light, water, and fertilizer. One useful thing to know about it compared to a lot of other houseplants is that it's hard to overwater, so in that respect it's almost more forgiving than some other plants. There was a little bit of a learning curve to getting the fertilizer right. It's nice to have such a dramatic plant in my home, and it has been fun to watch new leaf spears grow and emerge.
