This attractive deciduous flowering tree makes a wonderful specimen plant that attracts the eye. Flowers bloom early July and continue through September. This plant grows and flowers best with rich, moist soil in full sun, but will tolerate less hospitable conditions just as well. Great for late season blooms, screens and street trees. Can tolerate some drought and adapts to most soil conditions. Mature specimens grow up to 25 ft. in height and spread. when is the best time to plant this tree of crape myrtle

Asked by: chato
Hi chato, I'm Travis from The Home Depot. Thanks for visiting our site. The best time to plant any tree or shrub is in the winter months. The dormant season is the best time to plant because the plant is sleeping. The plant wakes up in it's new home. The trouble is, however, that Crepe Myrtles bloom in the summer, so choosing the color is easier when the shrub is in bloom. The blooming season is when they sell best, so availability is also greater in the summer. Crepe Myrtles are hardy plants that can handle stress well, so as long as they receive enough water, they can be planted anytime of the year. Thank you for asking, -Travis

In zone 7b, when is the proper planting time for crape myrtles?

I want to plant in our small Brooklyn backyard to make it look nice. Crate myrtles are gorgeous and hearty. We want to know when to plant and how to ideally plant them. Also, I would like to have butterfly plants and some climbing rose bushes. What are recommendations? We want to do this in July, but not sure if it is the right season. Thanks.
