My dimmers are standard dimmers. I also have a home automation system (INSTEON) that controls most lights and they dim without any issues. You can always go to Home Depot and test them out. They have test stations for you to try it out.

Put them in front of the house next to the garage no problem through the winter. Mine are inside a glass covers and work very well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I started replacing my old incandescent light bulbs and CFL bulbs with these CREE daylight bulbs ... I started replacing my old incandescent light bulbs and CFL bulbs with these CREE daylight bulbs about 2 years ago. They are great. Very bright and the daylight brings out the true color of things instead of making them look yellowish. After trying some, I went ahead and replaced all of my old bulbs with these and my house is so much brighter and "alive" than it used to be. And CREE has a 10 year warranty on these bulbs that they take very seriously. Out of all the bulbs I purchased, I had one bulb start to fail after about two years. It would shut off for a few minutes and come back on repeatedly. I emailed CREE support describing the problem and asked how I should go about processing a warranty claim. They replied to my email the same day apologizing for the issue and telling me they were shipping out a replacement. Now THAT is awesome, no hassle, product support! Clearly I picked the right LED light bulbs and I will continue to choose this brand for my future needs.

This company has failed overall to correct the problems inherent with these bulbs. The heat given off from the electronics alone destroys the bulbs longevity. I purchased them from the beginning and tried to stay with them because they were reasonably priced. I installed at least 14 of these bulbs. When they first hit the market they failed to tell the customer that it would survive in an enclosed fixture or even upside down in an open fixture. The first units had a rubber like coating on a good quality glass bulb. The heat sink near the base however was very hot to the touch which would cause the glue on the glass bulb to fail and come loose when being removed from the fixture. The higher priced led's I purchased before the Cree bulbs came along are still working in my home and none of them have failed! This industry has not figured out how to power these LED bulbs without generating too much heat to be installed in an enclosed fixture.

These bulbs are definitely not built for outside conditions or dimmable fixtures. Approximately 4 months ago we finished an outside remodel in Pennsylvania, which included a new dimmable light fixture for our front door. That light fixture is protected by approximately 2 1/2 feet of roof overhang and it protects the bulb from the top and sides, so it isn't exposed directly to weather or water. The only opening in the fixture is at the bottom, as most outside light fixtures are to prevent heat build-up. The first Cree 100W Equivalent Daylight 5000K 1600 Lumen LED bulb died within the first month. I replaced it immediately with a Cree 100W Equivalent Daylight 5000K 1700 Lumen LED bulb, but today (less than 3 months later), that bulb died also. These Cree LED bulbs just don't last for outside and/or dimmable applications. Possibly it's a different story for interior, non-dimmable uses, but for me I'm switching to the old standby incandescent bulb, at least until there's an exterior/dimmable LED bulb that I can trust. I guess it's back to Home Depot for a refund.

Unfortunately I missed all the poor build quality reviews... Exactly 1 month later one bulb has failed. The failed bulb was not on a dimmer. The other still working bulb is on a dimmer, sees more than twice the usage, but at maybe half power most of the time. I feel like this is a heat related issue, almost like Cree is overpowering their lower rated 60w equivalent led to 100w (equiv.) and charging twice as much cash for it (or is that HD's doing?)... I'm sure the profits heavily outweigh the replacement costs... Other than that, light quality and output is reasonable, though the plastic dome kills me. Buy any GE from a REAL store (not Walmart), even the cheaper GEs, and they've got a glass dome (and they've lasted a year so far). I have Cree powered fog lights and flashlights, all good quality products. It's a shame the household line is a slight letdown. I'll be waiting a week or two to see if the other bulb fails before I make any warranty decisions.

I love everything about these bulbs except for the fact that they don't last. Its a shorter life than any normal incandescent would be and these claim to average 15,000 hours. Mine burned out in two different locations about the same time, maybe 6 months? Even if I ran them 24 hours a day for a year, that's still only 8760 hours, and of course that wasn't the case. The color is great, the brightness... also great. These bulbs just continue to fail. I've had great luck with their 40W bulb replacements, but anything higher just hasn't lasted. I've brought several back to Home Depot and they gladly accept them with either the receipt or the orig packaging. I want to love these, Cree, but something is off with your longevity testing.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 3 bulbs in three months Did a total remodel of our house, and used the opportunity to go completely with LED. Three seperate fixtures, all with cree 100w equivalents, stopped working within three months. All three fixtures were non-enclosed, in non-wet locations. I've also tested the fixtures with a volt meter to confirm a clean 120v at 60hz. Therefore, in my opinion, the only culprit left is the bulbs. So it is my opinion that Cree, makes a less than optimal product, for the purpose of lasting 10y or 50k hours.

I bought the "daylight" one, because I like nice, bright light, and my house is surrounded by trees. If you don't like this kind of very bright white/blue light, look for the "warm" version. I have a very large living room with one overhead light fixture, on a ceiling fan, which holds 4 bulbs that can be moved to direct the light where you want it. These bulbs light up the entire room and make reading so easy. At full power the room looks like the middle of the day, even when it is the middle of the night. Don't want it so bright for watching tv? No problem, it's dimmable. I like the brightness and color of this light better than any other brands I have tried, and highly recommend it.

I went with the daylight temperature so I can tell what color my clothes are. The soft light (2700 +/- degrees) I had gave me a color shift to the point I could not tell the difference between dark colors.
