Can these be used in totally enclosed fixtures?

Asked by: Bob
Yes, BUT you need to measure from the top of the screw-in socket, to the outer rim of your fixture to determine what length your fixture can "hide", contain. We failed to do this and now have bulbs which protrude beyond the end of the fixture. the bulbs themselves work and perform as advertised; they are dimmable and provide a warm light. If possible, take an example of your fixture, and a measuring tape, with you when you go to buy bulbs...

I purchased these CREE 100W equivalent Soft White LED bulbs because I read online reviews stating that these do not buzz when they are dimmed. I had previously had GE 100W dimmables and there was a noticeable buzz whenever dimmed at all. There was only a slight buzz when they were turned all the way up. I thought I could deal with it, but I ended up returning them. I purchased these CREE bulbs today and although they are only a few dollars more expensive per bulb than the GE, they indeed do not buzz like the GE bulbs did. There is a slight buzz from these CREE bulbs, but it is so slight that you have to be completely silent and listen for it to hear it. Overall, I am very pleased with both the quality in the build of the CREE bulb and the relatively buzz free dimming. I would highly recommend these bulbs to anyone that wants to dim their LED light bulbs.

They do have a 10 year return policy and I've used it at least two times. I've bought a second one to have while the original one is out for warranty replacement. This way I can rotate. The light it gives is great and has no warm up time so it comes on fast. For this reason we continue to use it.

Installed this light in a table lamp that I connected to a smart bridge and a dimming remote. Light is bright and dims quietly and to a fairly low level - no hum. Soft white light is compatible with dimmers and color spectrum of light blends with other bulbs in the room. Cool burning, low energy use, and its rated as long life. Economical too, as it was on a reduced price. Very happy with this light bulb.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from All In All, Thumbs Up Finally a new tech bulb that has light as good as the old 100 Watt Incandescent. This bulb has about the same color as an incandescent (2700 Kelvin on the color scale compared to about 2850 for an incandescent) and Cree claims 1650 Lumens of brightness compared to 1600 for incandescent. Those numbers seem accurate to me. My biggest complaint is the initial cost. This bulb costs about $12 bucks plus tax at my nearby Home Depot. But it's a lot cheaper to operate. Here in Michigan it would cost me about 15 cents to run a 100 Watt bulb for 10 hours. Burning only 16 Watts, this bulb costs me 2.4 cents for 10 hours. An incandescent. bulb would typically last about 2000 hours. That would cost $30 to operate over the life of the bulb (plus the cost of the bulb). The Cree LED will cost about $4.80 for the same time. And the LED supposedly lasts for 20,000 hours. Oh just a couple of other little complaints: 1. Careful opening the package! I dropped one right out of the package and, no, it didn't shatter, but it didn't work. They aren't indestructible. 2. The wattage rating printed on the bulb is so faint you can't read it. All in all, I recommend them.
