The CRESCENT 9 IN. DIPPED HANDLE LINEMAN'S PLIERS are great - likely something I would consider to use on the regular when working with electrical wiring. The most notable features of this tool include easy cutting, a reaming head, 5 AWG cut capacity, and laser hardened cutting edges to stay sharp. I tested this out in a variety of ways, from using it to screw in a hook to the wall, cutting a few wires and nails, twisting wires, and peeling back some wire insulation. The tool was easy to use and lived up to the easy cutting feature highlighted. The only con I identified with this tool was that it had a p65 warning on it- I’m not cool with that unnecessary exposure. I did appreciate the lifetime warranty, but wish that was invested in the user instead.

This Crescent 9" Lineman's pliers appears to be a well consructed and sturdy tool as one would expect from a longtime manufacturer of handtools. The built-in fish tape puller and reaming functions are an added bonus. The dipped handles are comfortable and serve as an important safety feature while working around electricity. I like the cutting ability of these pliers along with the overall functionality. They look pretty good too!

I like the long handles and high leverage joint for cutting cleanly through several pieces of heavy gauge wire or Romex without any difficulty. The cross hatched pattern on the inside of the jaws makes holding and twisting wire together securely very easy. You can get a tight twist on the wire, trim the ends to make them even, and then screw on a wire nut. There is a crimper on the handle side of the pivot point. The crimper isn’t mentioned on the packaging, but I found it worked for small insulated and non-insulated electrical crimp terminals. The head of the pliers when closed can be used for deburring the inside of conduit. I found that using half inch conduit didn’t let me insert much of the plier head into the conduit end. The dipped handles have a nice feel and use a material that is smooth but not slippery.

The Crescent Linesman pliers are and excellent multi-tool at a great value of at Home Depot. The packaging describes the functions that you will be able to perform with these pliers. The cross hatched jaws grip onto the wire so that you can easy pull the wire of twist two wires together. The length length of the handle makes it very easy to cut standard household wiring. The grips and design of the handles are very comfortable to use.

It is good to see an American tool name that I recognize from decades ago. These are very well machined, have a great finish. The cutting edges and jaws meet precisely and the handle length provides lots of force for cutting heavier gauge wire. Up to 5 AWG according to Crescent, though I have not yet cut anything that large yet. Judging by how these Crescent pliers cut 10 gauge , then 6 or 5 gauge should be a breeze. The fish tape channel allows one to get a solid grip on a tape that has been lubricated. The plier jaws have a good cross hatched pattern for grip.

This Crescent 9.5" Z2 Lineman's Pliers are a huge step up over my older pair. The dipped handles fit in the hand more naturally, and there is a lot more detail and thought that went into the design and manufacture of these pliers. The cutting edges are laser hardened to improve longevity of maintaining a sharp edge. The teeth in the jaws are double ground to a pyramid shape, a much more grippy design than the typical straight-across, single grind teeth. The cutting anvils are more substantial and the cutting throat/mouth is larger. They claim that 5 AWG cable can be cut with these pliers. (I once made the mistake of getting super heavy cable as an extension cord for my 220 volt cabinet saw so I could saw out in the driveway...totally unneeded.) The back of the head has extra detail ground in and can be used as a pipe reamer. I can also see using it to deburr metal in certain situations. There is a channel designed in for gripping and pulling (greasy) flat metal fish tape. A very nice set of Lineman's Pliers that is truly the best in my shop.

I have been looking for a great pair of Linesman Pliers and came across the 9.5-inch Crescent set. They are very heavy duty with several features. One feature is it has a special grip area for clamping down on a flat fish tape for pulling wire. Another is that it opens up for easy cutting of wire up to 5 AWG with extra leverage for that. The grip surface of the main pliers’ portion is serrated with a ton of grip. They make a great addition to any toolbox or tool belt.
