Z2 Auto-Bite Tongue and Groove Plier Set (3-Piece)

Always nice to see a new twist on an old product. This is an update on the pliers. The Crescent Z2 Auto-Bite line of 1 handed adjust tongue and groove pliers will make life a little easier. These pliers are in the style of what are referred to as channel-locks. In agricultural groups they are referred to as "water-pump pliers". Popular because you can put a pair in your pocket and go from job to job getting multiple uses out of them, never changing tools. These are designed to be used with the pivoting lock or without. Without, it is used as a regular locking pliers, adjusted with 2 hands. With the lock in place it can be squeezed to the clamping point desired to do the work required. The handles are nice and long, covered in a tactile,yielding compound that gives comfort and a good grip. The handles are of an alloy that is tough but not too hard so that when it's squeezed some flex is felt giving feedback to the user as to how tight the work is being gripped. That flex gives you a little extra torque as well. There is a rounded place in the soft handle that can be used as a protective non-marring grip point for tightening decorative and shiny surfaces in kitchen and bath fixtures. This is a quality set of Crescent brand lifetime warranty locking adjustable pliers set. The three sizes are 8 inch long adjustable to 1 21/32 , 10 inch adjustable to 2 1/8 and 12 inch adjustable to 2 43/64 inches. These work where all you need is one hand adjustment just push the knob to open engage whatever you are trying to tighten or loosen push the handles together and you are automatically locked, then push the knob again to disengage. The handle grips on these are very nice and helps you get a good grip. These are so much better than regular channel locks and you never have to buy another set with the lifetime warranty. Do yourself a favor and slip on down to the Home Depot and pick yourself up a set, you will be glad that you did.

Very impressed with this pliers set. 3-pc set has variety for most any size homeowner application and I’d consider them “prosumer” grade. Self-locking mechanism is spring-loaded and easily deactivated if desired. Took me a couple times to get used to it but seems to work as advertised. Like the grips too. Well-designed good looking and made with quality tolerances. Very little if any play in them.

My last adjustable pliers, inherited from my dad, finally gave out. I love these pliers as they allow for one handed operation. This little arm on the handle near your hand swings out , hits the other handle and automatically adjusts the jaws to bite the item you're grabbing. I've only played with them for a couple of days, but it looks like are going to hold up. I'll post any updates if I run into any issues. They also have some grippers on the inside of the handles themselves to grab onto more delcate items like a faucet aerator or the top to a PVC adhesive can (see the pics on the HD site. Heavy duty, Great grip on the handles. Definitely recommend.

This set of 3 Crescent Z2 auto bite tongue and groove pliers is one of the best sets I have ever owned. They feel great, look great and function perfectly. The grips make for a tight steady hold on the pliers. Material is thin and slim but looks and feels very strong and durable. The auto bite feature is pretty awesome, just open and clamp. What’s nice is the auto bite can be engaged or disengaged. Definitely recommend these pliers.

The Crescent Z2 Auto-Bite Pliers are an innovative new design of channel lock pliers. They are designed to enable one handed adjustments by opening the jaws and engaging the “Auto-Bite” lever. The jaws will then adjust around the item being tightened when closed. If the lever is not engaged the pliers work similarly to a standard pair of channel lock pliers using both hands. Both jaws are cut in a “V” design with aggressive teeth to allow a good bite, and are narrow enough to fit in a tighter space. They also open extremely wide to grip larger items. The handles are comfortable and have a place designed to grip with a non-marring surface if needed. In my use these pliers should work in the “Auto-Bite” position most of the time, but if there is an extremely tight fitting they may need to adjusted manually. The reason for that is that when adjusted automatically the “V’s” in the jaws don’t align across from each other (see pictures to see this). Overall these are great quality tools and should be very useful for years to come. For those interested the packaging states that these are “Product of Vietnam, finished in China”.

This 3 piece set should accommodate almost any size pipe you are likely to use. The ergonomic design of the handles allows for a good strong grip and the tooth design of the jaw should allow for a better grip. I definitely recommend this plier set.

Crescent has taken channel lock style pliers to a whole new level. Crescent has added a lever that creates torque so you get real pressure on what it is you're trying to tighten or loosen. Once the lever is engaged the pliers automatically adjust down on a ratcheting groove to your project, the lever stops at the base and allows real "auto-bite." The grips are a well made rubber that does not slip and the added non marring pipe grips on the upper inside of the handles is great. No more wrapping a rag around a finished aerator or shower head pipe to turn, tighten or loosen. Great well thought out hand tools. Definitely recommended!
