Questions & Answers

Flexible times/temps?

Several of my recipes say to start the slow cooker on High for the first hour, and after this, switch to Low. It appears impossible to do on this pot. Am I correct? Is there a slow cooker out there which you can program for that?
Asked by: CJ
All you have to do is set it for the number of hours you will be gone or would like your meal to be done. It states on the dial the High Low Medium depending on the time it is set for once the meal has reached the desired time it will switch to keep warm.

Customer Reviews

Smart-Pot 6 Qt. Programmable Slow Cooker is rated 2.8 out of 5 by 88.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from This poduct has an appealing look. I have used crock pots for over 20 years. Recently the crock pot that I had used for over 10 years stopped working and I wanted to replace it with another. While at the store this crock pot really caught my eye and I was anxious to use a digital version. Unfortunately, this has been the worst crock pot I have ever used. On recipes that I have used for years to cook on low for 8 to 10 hours this crock pot will not finish cooking the product. I cooked a roast and vegtables which in the past would be tender and ready to eat after 8 hours. It cooked over 12 hours and was not done at all. I ended up having to place the pot on high and let it cook for an additional 2 hours. The plastic lid is very thin and doesn't seal off very well. I am dissapointed after spending so much money on this crock pot and I am about to replace it. At this point I am looking to find any brand of crockpot that has a glass top and hope it works much better than this one has. The digital option did not impress me at all.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from very disappointing I could not wait to get my new digital stainless 6qt. Crock Pot home to try out, I fully expected to exceed the quality of older models I have used through for many years. It has been a huge disappointment. The new digital technology coupled with a nice stainless finish seemed it would be no-brainer, but the digital setting has a mind of it's own. Many times now I have set it to it's lowest setting "Warm" to simply keep food warmed, only to return a few moments later finding it boiling wildly out of control. I have been a long time Crock Pot fan, but I will not purchase another unless it has manual controls, the digital format is just too unpredictable. I have not been able to locate a 6qt. stainless in local stores with manual control , are they still manufactured ?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Ugh, not again. When I originally got this I really liked it, after a while the stone cracked and leaked. I got the same one to replace it, and it’s cracked and leaking too. Not getting a 3rd one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Flexibility, easy to use, but the darn lid handle! This is a stylish crock pot that I got as a set, with a stainless steel lil' dipper, for Christmas three years ago. The easy to use digital controls and setting adjustment that automatically goes to warm when the cycle is completed, makes dinners and enterainment a snap. The black ceramic cooking dish allows for oven use if needed, and has turned out to be useful on several occasions. The only complaint I have is the cheap plastic lid handle. I have had to replace it about 3 times and I've probably paid for the cost of the crock pot in full just with the replacement pieces. This last time, I ended up going to the hardware store and buying a cabinet handle instead of the real thing and that's worked out well. Overall, I have been very happy with the product and would buy this model again if I need a replacement crock pot.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Should have tested it when I first got it. Had this cooker for a few years and used it infrequently. It always seemed to take longer than expected to cook food. I thought this was because it was the first programmable one I had ever used. However, I really suspected something was wrong when black-eyed peas would not soften. Next was having to finish corned beef and potatoes in the oven after 8 hours in the crock-pot. Contacted company and instructed to test it with water and a thermometer. Temp should have reached at least 200, mine didn't make it past 185. So I suspect it never worked correctly but of course the warranty was over. My old manual Hamilton Beach still works great, but it is smaller and I wanted the automatic switch to warm of the programmable. I will try another of this model and test it immediately. If it doesn't reach temp it's going back. I am giving it 2 stars because it is the kind of item that should work right the first time and for many years after. i

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not crazy I use my slow cooker regularly, once a week. I own two a small one manual controls and I have had the smart pot for about 4 or 5yrs. After each use I kept telling my husband I dont think the low is really low. Things seem to over cook or cook faster than the time for low settings and I couldnt figure out why. I like to use liners and my last attempt this week the liner melted on my insert. I started to research and found many other owners have the same issue. I have used slow cookers for over 20 years and this one seems to be the worst I have ever owned and looking at replacing it. I a considering other brands.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No temperature control at all I agree with the other reviews I have a graduate degree in engineering and set up a temperature control test to prove my suspicion. The crock pot heats to the same temp no matter what the setting After 2 hours at high setting I turned to warm setting. Temp did not change after 2 hours, still boiling away Avoid this product I would like to get a refund

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Boils on Warm Mode I bought this Crock-Pot in October 2016 (about a month ago). I previously owned a similar model in the past and loved it. The programmable option is fantastic since a lot of recipes say to "cook on low of 8 hours" or "cook on high for 4 hours". The recipes were always tasty and perfectly cooked. With this particular model, recipes I used to make in the past are now overcooked. Actually, the crock pot even boils on the warm mode. Hence, with this crock pot, the programmable options are completely useless, because you have to stop the crock pot earlier than the recipe says. Very disappointed with this purchase. Do not buy.
