Where can i see this blower, and get a quick start unit with it.
Asked by: BV428
I was able to purchase this blower from my local store. It has “quick start technology, and is a pretty easy to get running machine. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase. Seems like I’ll get a pretty good lifespan out if it & it is plenty powerful enough both as a blower & vacuum. I do recommend it!

Questions for fuel. What octane rating of fuel is recommended? Would fuel stabilizer + E10 fuel from gas stations work fine, or it requires ethanol-free fuel to prevent engine corrosion (rust) issue.
Asked by: Keen
I use regular unleaded gasoline with 10% ethanol. While this is a 4-stroke cycle engine and should not be negatively affected by the ethanol, as a routine I do add both the "red" and the "blue" Stabil to the fuel. I am on my 3rd year with this and have had no issues. I love the 4-stroke as this allows me to use the same gasoline as my lawn mower and snow blower, and since I do use Stabil my fuel never gets funky.

This is a 4 cycle engine. No oil in the fuel - just gasoline. The oil goes in the crankcase, not in the fuel.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So Far So Good The throttle was a little touchy at first like the instruction manual said it would be. Now that it's engine is broke in it works great and starts easy. It is quite a bit heaver than my previous Poulan Pro 2 cycle, but it's still quite manageable for long operational time periods. So far so good with this new fangled 4 cycle blower. It has plenty of power to even blow 1-1/2" to 2" rocks from the sidewalk and driveway back into the border edging of the landscaping. I haven't used the vacuum capability yet so I can't speak to that. I typically use a large walk behind vacuum. Hopefully as it ages I'll be able to get parts for this Cub Cadet, unlike the perfectly good Poulan Pro I had to junk because it needed a couple of carburetor parts that are no longer available.

The first time I received the blower the choke cover and air filter were missing. Duh. The second one I received was not working to my expectations. I purchased this because of the 4 cycle set-up. Most of the time with 2 cycle I find that the carburetor develops problems because of the oil and fuel mixture. In the past 4 cycle always worked longer without a problem. This blower did not have sufficient power and the vibration after 5 minutes was too much for my hand. Look elsewhere and you will probably find a cheaper blower that works better. Also when I brought the blower to the store the person told me that after 30 days I had to take a store credit. I took the credit and discovered it is 90 days, The whole experience was taxing say the least.

Worked perfectly.. On the third use, which was actually blowing leaves out of the yard, not just messing around, in the middle of running it just shut off. Checked the fuel. Still had over half a tank of fresh fuel. Tried to restart but no luck. Thought ok it needs to cool down. Waited a few hours, still nothing. Tried the next day. Still, again no luck. Hasn’t started since.. Could I take the time and trouble shoot it myself. Probably but shouldn’t have to. That is why I spent the money and replaced my old weedeater brand blower that I bought used 17 years ago.. purchased online, going to try to return it to store... That should be fun...

I kinda wish it had a tool-less design, as having to look for a slotted screw driver to change from suck to blow is a drag. Definetly needs the screw gin attachment for electric start, as it is not included, but makes starting really quick. Overall happy.

From my perspective, this newer 4 cycle unit is a gen 1 attempt in many ways. Good news - the unit in blower mode is very powerful and does a great job, it starts very easily, even in cold weather w/o the noxious fumes and idles like a champ. If one follows the priming directions and if your gas is new, it starts every time! My issues are with the vac mode which I use 90% of the time because of the mountain of oak leaves that vortex in/around my house. It is easier to vac than to blow them into the yard and mulch them with the mower. Couple of items in the vac mode, when I fill the gas tank, it leaks gas as the tank cap doesn't appear to have a check valve to allow air in and keep the gas from leaking out. It works fine in the blower mode. The opening to the vac door has a vertical "key" opening, yet the screw driver must be turned horizontal to open the door after it is inserted into vertical key opening to release retaining spring? Did anyone else experience the same issue? In the fall, the lighting is not good and the housing is black, so it was difficult to find the horizontal slot after inserting the screwdriver in a vertical position. I had to locate my LED flashlight to determine why it was so difficult to open the door and if the user is not careful, you will score the horizontal key hole, which is made of plastic. Why not a push button or some other mechanism to open the door w/o the use of any tools? It would have to be glove ready as most leaf vacuuming is completed in the fall. The collection bag should have a rear zipper, not a side zipper as the side zipper opening too long for an standard leaf recycling bag. My former unit had the zipper at the rear of the bag and I could drop the blower bag vertically into the recycling paper bag, unzip the vac bag and let the contents pour into the recycling paper bag without it spilling onto the ground. The vac mode tubes are complicated in that the vac blows the shredded leaves forward, then the 180 degree attached vacuum elbow tube diverts it to the rear. Why not design a unit with a "shorty" tube to somehow shoot it to the rear w/o the 180 degree vacuum elbow? The user will need a screwdriver to remove the vacuum elbow when converting to a blower, but be careful as the very small red release screw could be damaged. Why not a push-button mechanism that could be used with gloves? I have charged oil all my life, but I do not understand why the included oil container to be used as the filling bottle has no obvious line on it to properly refill? I had to get a black marker and scribe a line around the entire bottle to ensure I did not under/over fill it. Why not supply a bottle that requires the user to nearly top it off rather than having the bottle 1/4 empty as the measuring container? At a minimum, the bottle should have a clear sight glass so the user can see how full it is or should be since it is used repeatedly. On that point, I was unable to accurately fill the blower/vac with oil as their appears to be cavities that drink oil using the method of filling it to the filling plug threads of the unit. So I gave-up and just filled the blower using the supplied bottle at the suggested fill-line of the bottle and sealed the blower. Did anyone else have the same issue? When I use it in the vac mode, the oil leaks onto the housing. It must have breather tube somewhere under the carb, but I can't locate it. Finally, my p/u tube in the vac mode became loose at the base of the unit and has dislodged several times as the plastic base housing flexes too much. Ironically, no tools are required to remove that accessory. As a result I will return the unit.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cub Cadet BV428 Leaf Blower The Cub Cadet BV428 4-Cycle leaf blower worked well. It started easily and performed as expected. Although it was a bit heavier then a previous 2-Cycle model I had, my expectation is that it will outlast the other(s). Only time will tell, but the other 2-cycle leaf blowers lasted less than 2 years each.,

The throttle is extremely sensitive when first getting started but it’s clearly written that this blower needs a break in period. After it warms up it’s definitely a lot better. I’m guessing after a few uses it will be fine. Mulches leaves with ease and fairly light weight for a 4cycle engine. Unless your using this commercially go ahead and do yourself a favor and run tru fuel in this thing avoid the hassle of damaging the carb with regular gas.

I purchased this 4 cycle blower because I had recently purchased a 4 cycle weed trimmer and it was so much easier to start than a 2 cycle, which is all I've had in the past. Originally I just wanted to not have to mix fuel, as it turns out the 4 cycles are so much easier to start. I use the prime button as directed and one very easy pull is all it takes, this thing starts right up. It doesn't rev as high as a 2 cycle so it doesn't seem to blow as much air, but it is plenty enough to blow the leaves around the yard and blow off my driveway after mowing. I'm very pleased with this blower.

At first glance and first use it is a fantastic machine, very well built and well designed. I give it a 1 star rating though because after using it only two times oil is leaking out of this thing at an unbelievable rate! Both times I have used it less than 10 minutes doing simple blowing to clear off a driveway. I am very sad to give it a rating like this as it is so easy to start and durable. I have no doubt it will get fixed at the local service center but the fact that it is leaking oil on the 2nd use and the fact I have to now take it to get fixed is a real disappointment.

I find 4 cycle much easier to use and of course better for the environment. The Cub Cadet is easy to operate and performs well and I particularly like the vacuum to remove leaves as opposed to just blowing them although set up could be made a little easier. This blower is powerful and quiet in operation and not too heavy. I would definitely recommend it based on my experience.
