Does this blower have a recoil start in addition to the electric start option?

Asked by: Dl
I used the electric starter once ... the recoil starter works so well that I don't bother with the electric anymore.

Can the snowblower crawl up stairs without the blades engaged?

Asked by: Shawna
The two levers on the handle tops, one on each side, one controls the blade, the other controls the wheels. Don't know about climbing stairs - guess it would depend on how tall each stair was.

Had very little snow that year and only used it a half dozen times and was happy with it. At the end of the season, I stored it the way the manual directed, (ran a half tank of gas with stabilizer mixed until the machine ran dry, put a few drops of oil in spark plug hole, then turned the machine over for 45 seconds) The following winter I put fresh gas in the machine but it would not start. Hauled it to an authorized dealer who ended up replacing the carburetor. Ran well over that winter, Stored it with the same technique as the previous year. Took it out the other day for this winter and again it would not start. It is back in the shop and I hope to get it back before we get a big snow storm. My last snowblower was 40 yrs old and never had a problem until the last year. None of my neighbors have any problem with their snowblowers. I am very unhappy with my Cub Cadet machine and would not recommend them to anyone.

I purchased a slightly earlier version of this product in March of 2017, towards the end of our heavy snow season, so I had little chance to give it a good workout. The 2017/18 snow season in the California Sierras was relatively light, but this season (2018/2019) we have had record snow falls and I have used this product frequently to touch up my driveway AFTER the plowing service had cleared the bulk of the snow. I have found that the snow blower works fine on dry, light snow that falls at temperatures below 30 degrees. For wet snow (like today at 33 degrees), the claimed throwing distance of 40 feet is a gross overstatement. I get 10 feet with maybe 6 feet of elevation. Trying to plow through the berm left across our driveway by the city plows is a struggle, often requiring that I first break up a piece of the berm with a steel shovel and then blow it out of the way. In retrospect I wish I had ignored the positive online reviews and purchased what many of my neighbors use: Honda gas powered blowers with treads.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from More than enough I did tons of research and decided that this model was the right combination of power and price for me. I live in NE OH and have a large, steep driveway and pad. I was initially worried that I should have bought a larger model but I am glad now that I did not. This has the features i wanted: electric start, two stage, power to the wheels, power steering, and a headlight, since I often use it at night and in the early morning. When it was delivered I had no issues putting it together, it was easy and very intuitive. It started right up with the electric start, but I have yet to be able to pull start it cold, the only flaw I have noticed. It has plenty of power and cut through a six inch wet snow with ease so i have no doubts about it if we get heavier amounts. I love the fact that it has plenty of power but not a big footprint in my garage. I may add the electric hand warmers but other than that it's everything I needed and wanted, and it's made in America.

I brought this snow blower to replace another Cub Cadet snow blower of the same size. Old machine never let me down for the 15 years I owned it. This machine: On the Plus side: Ordered it online on a Sunday and by Thursday it was here by truck freight. I had it out of the box and ready to go in about 30 minutes. Started right up and moved under its on power no problem at all. Power steering is really a clutch for each wheel. Pull a yellow trigger and that side goes into neutral. Other tire will spin the machine around on a dime. Works better then I thought it would. On the Neg side: The power steering triggers under the main handles are plastic, all other handles are steel. Wish they were steel too, only a matter time until they break. Fuel tank only holds 1/2 gallon of gas, in deep heavy snow I`m thinking you would be lucky to run 30 minutes before running out. Also there is no fuel shut off switch for summer storage. Had to add my own, costed a whole $2.50. Doesn't come with an extension cord for the electric start, my old one did.

I bought my Cub Cadet in October 17, used it for the entire season and followed all care and use instructions. It was excellent all season. I ran it empty in the spring and kept it in clean, dry storage. I went to start it a couple weeks ago and it would not start. After getting no assistance from Cub Cadet customer care, I brought it to an authorized dealer for repair. Turns out the carbs in these machines gum up very easily. The dealer said to use non-ethanol fuel for now on and a Cub Cadet technician through customer service said the same thing. Nothing in the manual says anything about this issue even though the dealers and Cub Cadet customer service are all aware of this problem. I now know that this issue is common knowledge for people with experience and that it is not very hard to prevent, but the company should give instructions to prevent this. When I called customer service back, they said I should drain the float bowl, but again acknowledged that this is not in the manual. Pretty frustrating to know that the company is aware that customers are incurring repair costs for an easily preventable issue and providing no guidance. I polled my neighbors who all have different brands and none of them have this issue and most said they leave the gas in all summer.

After 2 years I have found it will handle light weight snow up to 10" easily. With "Lake Effect" wetter snow up to 6" is not a problem. For greater than 6", or snow piles, it needs to to be carefully fed by "start-stop", of small width slices. To accomplish the above the machine must be operated at the lowest (F1) speed. F2 thru F6 are so fast as to be worthless except for parking or jogging. I believe a speed lower than F1 would assist with the wet stuff. The power steering is nice and the machine is fairly easy to operate and has been reliable. I normally clear about 600 to 1000 square feet per use.

Metal cracked under normal use, was told that is not covered. Cheap build quality, cheap steel, they dont seem to stand behind their product. Will never purchase a product from Cub Cadet or MTD every again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A very good timely purchase This unit has a very good set of features such as the chute control and the power steering. I cannot find any fault with either the value or quality of the product. The unit appears to to be well built for the price. As for setup it took less than an hour as the instructions were fairly clear, It seemed to take longer to cut up the carton it came in then it took to setup. One week after I received the unit we were hit with a heavy 6-8" snowfall and the unit handled it as well as the 8 hp snow blower that it replaced. All I had to do was to check the oil and fill it up with gas, it started the first time I hit the electric starter. The only thing that I could say was an issue was the chute control to swing it from one side to the other. It is a bit stiff and I could see someone who doesn't have very strong wrists could have some difficulty with it, but I expect that it will loosen up with use. There is also a provision to set the tension for swinging the chute.
