Still a Beast
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I posted a positive review of my Cub Cadet 25 ton log splitter 2 years ago. My updated opinion remains the same.
This machine is a beast. My son and I split a cord plus of newly harvested oak. The rounds were 30" x 14". No issue splitting this oak.
The Cub Cadet has performed flawlessly over the past several years.

Very easy minimal assembly required. Splits logs like hot knife through butter. There is no need for more power. Honda engine was easy to start after putting fuel in it although I found it very loud and noisy. One pull start is a big plus. Very heavy duty parts are used throughout. The only thing I don't like is that the log being split has to be positioned away from the cylinder column so that only the splitting wedge is touching the log. Otherwise, the flat spot behind the splitting wedge jams the cylinder and is not able to split the log. This is a major design flaw. In other words, the splitting wedge should be long enough to extend all the way to the column without a flat spot but have one continuous sharp edge. Cumbersome to lift log to clear flat edge of the wedge when used on the horizontal position.

Buyer Beware!
Bought this product last week. On the 6th log, the hydraulic fluid line separated from the valve spewing fluid over a 4’x8’ piece of grass. The compression strap was not tightened adequately at the factory. Called Cub Cadet support and they don’t carry the hydrolic fluid. This hydrolic fluid is only sold in 5 gallon containers and costs over $150. No satisfaction and no resolution - just extra cost.

I picked this log splitter because it had a Honda engine, could split both vertically and horizontally, wasn't too big to handle and was offered by a good brand name, Cub Cadet. The log splitter was easy to assemble and started on the first pull. The Honda engine was not as quiet as I expected but reasonable. I did contact Cub Cadet support with a few minor questions and they were very helpful. I haven't used it for a full season yet but after a month or so I do not anticipate any problems as it appears well built.

Awesome splitter
This splitter is a beast and is as easy to start and ooerate as can be. Ive had mine going on 3 years now and split about 6 cords every year. Never had a problem splitting anything including logs about 44" in circumference of pin oak and knotty swamp maple. The ONLY drawback to this splitter is its small gas tank. Other then that I couldn't be happier!!!

So far, so good. I bought this unit in the last month specifically to split some particularly gnarly elm logs of up to 3' diameter (all 18" or so long) and, touch wood (sorry!), there have been no problems thus far (I have split a couple of cords - see image). I like the option of splitting horizontally, but prefer cutting vertically to avoid lifting the heavy stuff. I doubt there's much difference between the two positions from a hydraulic standpoint, but a bit of gravity assist can't hurt.
Very easy to assemble and I've always found Honda-powered equipment to be reliable, so this should be a useful tool to have around for years to come.

This Cub Cadet log splitter is fantastic! The local Home Depot asembled in for me after taking delivery of my online order. I towed it 7 miles to my home with no issues. I used it a couple of days later The instructions were easy to follow and the operaton of the log splitter was intuitive. It was easy for me to be safe operating it. It made quick work of the knotty hardwood trees I had cut for firewood. I anticipate getting good use of this machine for many years. It sure saved my back.

I ordered this Log splitter online from Home Depot. It required very little assembly and all I had to do was add Gasoline. This splitter is easy to use and my wife enjoys splitting wood! I had some Pecan wood that slowed the splitter just a bit, but it was still able to split it.
This log splitter exceeded my expectations! I primarily bought this log splitter because it was one of few that was powered by a HONDA engine.

Great splitter broke it in on 3ft wide red Oak and hard maple. Went threw it great. Split about 4 face cord on a gallon of gas. Only problem was 1 bolt was cross threaded on the side arms, but I took them off I only use it vertically so I don't use them.
