The Cub Cadet 42 in. 22 HP Kohler V-Twin OHV Zero-Turn Riding Mower features a steering wheel instead of lap bars, so it's easier to learn and use. Its 42 in. cutting width helps mow large areas of grass to reduce mowing time, while the heavy-duty 2-blade cutting deck resists rust for long-lasting use. With a zero-turning radius, you get ultimate efficiency and control when mowing, and the automatic transmission lets you set your own pace. Even while mowing at different speeds, the dual hydrostatic transmission provides true zero-turn performance while protecting your lawn and providing unparalleled stability. For added comfort, the simplicity of gas and brake pedals matches the arrangement of a car's control and movement - simply press one pedal to go forward and the other to reverse. And, with Synchro Steer Technology, the steering wheel controls both the front wheels and the independently controlled back wheels for greater maneuverability, tracking and stability on tough terrain and steep hills.

Questions & Answers

does the lawn mower cut when you are in reverse thanks Jim in pa

Asked by: Jim
Yes, it does, but... Reach down into the metal decking around the reverse pedal and find the screws. Loosen just one to maneuver the trip switch out of the way of the reverse pedal. I know this is a safety device but it is a real PITA since it shuts off the PTO everytime you need to back up a little.

Why does this lawnmower not cut in reverse?

Asked by: Betty
It does mow in reverse. From the position the key is in after mower starts, turn key back one notch then press the yellow button and red light comes on. Now blades won't go out of gear when you back up. However if you get off the mower you have to do it all over. Turn the switch back to just started position and repeat above process.

weight

on an upslope drive with this mower has any one had any problems .I saw and test drove it at the Danville VA store .Which I think is a great idea .But I did notice that all the weight was in the back of the mower and wondered about this .I am a short women mowing 3 acres of land .I have used a troy built for years .I have a cub cadet lap bar mower that I feel I can not control well .It was my husbands and since his heart attack he cannot use .I feel bad since it only has 63 hours on it .
Asked by: sissy
There is a little bit of common sense here. I have been mowing with this mower for 3 years for lots of people. There is nothing but steep slopes and the like here. I have climbed as steep of slopes as I ever climbed with the conventional steering wheel type with the motor in front. Today I was mowing on steep side hills until I chickened out. New development and they mowed with a push mower before, I can't imagine how they stayed up there to push the mower. Front wheels won't slide down the way the did on convention type. If you are nervous about the slope stay off it is the best way. There is an excellent chance, as with any mower, you won't get a second chance if you flip it, so don't be stupid. It is like a billy goat, it would be real easy to get on to steep of slope and end in disaster. There is absolutely no way I would trade this mower for the lap or lever type. I mowed for years with the lap type.

RZT S 42 in. 22 HP Kohler V-Twin Dual Hydrostatic Zero-Turn Riding Mower with Steering Wheel Control is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 175.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from It's easy to operate, cuts well, and easy to clean. I bought the Cub Cadet, RZT-S, 42in. 22 HP Kohler V-Twin Dual Hydrostatic Zero-Turn Riding Mower with Steering Wheel Control specifically for what I hoped to be the ease of operations for my 16 year old daughter, and I was right. The steering wheel makes it easy to drive, and it cuts what we drive it over. There are two things I'd change if I could: the steering wheel isn't adjustable, and the PTO kicks off when it goes into reverse. The ability to adjust the height and reach of the steering wheel would make it a more comfortable drive. It is a hassle to have to restart the PTO each time we have to back-up, plus not being able to cut in reverse causes extra effort to complete cutting some areas.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it, Love it, Love it! The 42 in. 22 HP Kohler V-Twin Automatic Zero-Turn Riding Mower with Steering Wheel Control is a great mower. I am 66 years of age and find it very easy to use and a very good ride with this mower. It has a good even cut and a time saver with the speed. At my age, if I can find it easy, I would think it would be a good mower for all! I would include a video on the ease of riding and zero turn, although with the rain we have had in MN the past several days it’s not possible. Therefore, I am sending a photo of the mower parked in my back yard upon the first day it was delivered.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Overall I am happy with the mower, but would change a couple things. Changes I would like: Option to mow in reverse, and when zero turning-having the inside wheel rotate in reverse direction, rather than stationary/twisting the grass. Performance is fine-adequate power, and high blade speed. Ground speed is fine, and steering is easy. It stripes well even without a drag device, and is very stable. The crateing for shipping was outstanding. No way it could be damaged unless intentional

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is the easiest rider I have ever used. Hardest part is un-packing from crate!! Easy to learn controls runs like a car, Only issue is I wish I had gotten the 50 in cut for my 2.5 acre lot. My lot is uneven with slopes and lots if tree roots the floating deck cuts over roots on its second to lowest level and runs up and down all the slopes in my yard without tipping or fear of rolling with a very clean and even cut..great mower for the money....BUT GO BIGGER 50in.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This thing isn't playin' around! We bought this mower as we were falling a bit behind in our mowing. We built a house last year, and due to an over wet spring were unable to get a yard put in. We have not had a final grade, or anything done to our yard. We have picked out rocks, removed stumps, and the big stuff, but we have plenty of ruts. We are not usually so abusive on our equipment, but we were tired of handing out cash to have it brush hogged while we wait for the landscaper to show up to do the work this year. As you can see by the picture, the grass is over grown and waist high in some areas. This mower just laughed at this tall grass!!!! It never hesitated for a moment. Now we were pretty gentle as we don't want to destroy the mower, but we were very impressed at how well it performed under these conditions. I have severe vertigo and do not drive a car, but did fine using the mower. It handles well. It turns on a dime! We are so impressed so far. Our yard is a mess, but looks pretty darn amazing now that we have the cub to keep the weeds down. Just bought the hitch kit. We are planning on purchasing the lawn sweeper soon. Couldn't be happier!!!!

I had a true two column zero turn that I just couldn't avoid tearing up my yard. No patience. But this allows me to make the zero turn and it controls the back wheels so the yard doesn't get torn up. Even when the grass was a little wet. My only draw back is it rides a lot rougher than the previous zero turn. I do like the larger wheels up front and taking the deck off is fairly simple. I converted my mower to a mulcher in a matter of minutes. I was even able to get the belt on without using anything special or someone else's help.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great mower and Easy to use... I recieved my RZT 42" Zero turn lawn mower a few weeks ago. I have used it several times. I found it easy to learn to use and it does a great job cutting the grass. The only thing, the Home Depot site I ordered this mower from tells you the wrong grass bagger to go with it. It is not the #202035130. I checked the Cub Cadet site and this is the correct bagger for this mower #18A70020100. I have orderd it and now waiting for delivery.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Best Ever The shipper delivered the RZT S 42" to my driveway in an open sided crate. Everything was secured and the crate was in good condition. I knew I couldn't just leave it in the driveway until the next day to put it together, so I proceeded to unpack and assemble it. There wasn't a lot to put together. It took longer to disassemble the crate than it did to bolt the steering column, steering wheel, grass deflector and seat in place. It already had oil in the engine so I checked everything else and then added gas and connected the battery. It had enough charge on the battery to allow me to crank it until it started. The first good thing I discovered was how quiet it was compared to my old riding mower. This is the first hydro-static transmission powered mower that I have ever owned. Life is now so much simpler than before. Push one peddle to go forward. The more you push, the faster it goes. Push the other peddle to go backwards. And yes, it stops the blades when you press the reverse peddle. The good new is that it turns so sharp that you find yourself rarely having to backup. The only thing you have to watch out for on this mower is the fact that even if the blade deck clears an object when you are cutting around it tightly, the back wheel may not miss it. It's best to watch the wheel clearance as well as the mower deck. This mower will cut your time cutting a large yard by a considerable percentage. The single peddle will allow you to speed over the thinner portions of the yard and slow down over the thicker parts without shifting a gear. You will find you have less line-trimmer work to do as well, I am happy with RZT.
